欧洲 | 荷兰的生活真的很轻松吗 | 相对移居,旅居更为合适 | Transnational lifestyles

A few friends have asked me
is it feasible to sojourn and work remotely in Europe?
Will there be a lot of things to take care of?
Is life here easy?
Less stressful?
Do people here get nervous and social anxiety easily?
And so on...
So today I'd like to share with you,
is Europe a good place for a sojourn and work?
Hey everyone, I am Little Cloud.
I know that
a lot of companies are making the transition now.
They're allowing their employees to work remotely.
Compared to the old days,
it's a lot easier now than it used to be.
Now you can just go to the office
for one or two days a week.
The rest of the time, you can either
work from home
or work remotely.
And for all these reasons,
there are more people would like to
Furthermore, countries around the world
have opened to travel & tourism.
So, it becomes much easier
for those want to sojourn and work abroad.
Before this,
we sojourned and worked in KL for 3 months.
In our company, it's not uncommon to see
colleagues sojourning and working abroad.
Especially now that we are having
a summer holiday.
Some of our colleagues have rented a summer house
in South of France,
Italy,
Spain,
Greece,
or etc,
and work from there.
Most people come to Europe for a sojourn and work
with a tourist visa.
They usually stay in Europe for about 2-3 months
and then move on to the next country,
or go back to their own country.
During this period,
they will travel around Europe
but most of the time they will be working too.
Only that the working hours become
a bit more flexible.
So what's it like to sojourn and work in the NL?
Actually, as long as you can speak English,
you'll be able to cope with a sojourn in the Netherlands.
Because you will just stay here for a short period of time,
there is not much to worry about.
Therefore,
just enjoy it to the utmost.
And you'll be quite comfortable staying in the Netherlands.
As once you communicate in English,
locals will know you're a foreigner
and they will speak English to you too.
Or when they see you are an Asian,
they'll naturally speak English to you.
However,
if you stay and work in the Dutch countryside,
then the reality may be a little different.
This is due to some old people don't speak English.
And most young people work and study in the city.
Is it expensive to sojourn and work in Europe?
I think it depends on the country and the city you choose.
Let's take the Netherlands as an example.
If you don't have a family and friends here,
then the biggest expense for staying and working
in the Netherlands is the accommodation.
Since you're on a tourist visa,
you probably will only rent an apartment for 3 mths at most.
It's different from those renting for a whole year.
If you only rent for three months,
the monthly rent may be more expensive
than those renting for a whole year.
In the city I live in,
for a 60sqm apartment,
without any indoor facilities and an infinity pool,
just a very simple apartment,
it costs around 1,250 - 1,350 euro per month
and excluding utilities and service charges.
As for other expenses,
like meals,
commuting costs
and other basic expenses,
says, you cook most of the time,
it's still gonna cost you arond
500-600 euros.
And then there's the utilities.
But then again,
some rents include utilities and service charges.
If you really want to sojoursn and work here,
you got to ask and read the contract thoroughly
when renting an apartment.
Based on a rough estimation,
the cost of living for a month of sojourn here
will be around 2,000-2,500 euros.
In regard to the working hours,
this depends on your own arrangement.
I believe if you could stay and work abroad,
your working hours would be quite flexible too.
When we were working in Kuala Lumpur,
we started at 11am in the morning
and finished at around 8pm.
As a sojourner in the Netherlands,
do you need to have a bike?
I personally think that
If you really want to buy a bike,
I'd recommend buying a cheap second-hand bike.
And before you leave the country,
you can sell it online.
If you have local friends here,
it's definitely easier to deal with these things.
However, even if you don't have a bike,
it doesn't affect your life here,
because the public transport is very convenient.
After all, the Netherlands is a very small country.
It's not that far from A to B.
So for me,
if you are a sojourner,
a bike can be with and without.
Even if you don't have friends
and a family here,
you still don't have to worry about sojourning here.
You just have to live like a tourist.
And I think that's great.
Because you'll keep your curiosity
and that sense of freshness.
You'll keep exploring.
In the meantime, if you have friends visiting you,
you'll know where to take them,
what to take them to eat and so on.
And you'll keep discovering
where the locals go.
I think it's a very special feeling.
The one thing that I feel bad about is
you can't explore a city
or a country in deep.
Because after all, you're only going to be in this place
for a few months.
Of course, if you really like it,
you can always come back to the place again.
I find the best thing about a sojourn is
I can stay in a country for a few months
then move on to the next country.
Or I go back to the Netherlands
or Malaysia.
So I can visit my family more often
and my parents can see me more.
However, they may not want to see me that often.
And the other thing is
My husband can also vist his family
and his family can see him too.
Most importantly,
I would like to sojourn in Malaysia more often.
If you ask,
do we have any plans to move to Malaysia?
To be honest, not really.
We both feel that
sojourning and working abroad
is by far the most suitable lifestyle for us.
Then if you ask,
in this way of life,
does it bring a lot of inconvenience and trouble?
Our happiness is always interspersed with troubles and worries.
Even the rich
have their own troubles,
right?
Life is made up of ordinary days,
to create an extraordinary life.
But ordinary scenery can also be very beautiful.
If you look back at your own life,
it's easy to discover that
what we have
is actually more than what we don't have.
When we focus on what we have,
the inconveniences and troubles of life
will naturally be lesser.
If I were to list out all the bad things in my life,
an A4 paper is not even enough for me to write them all.
I kid you not,
Everyday I'm
The most important things to sojourn and work abroad are
your job allows you to do this,
it allows you to work elsewhere,
you've nothing to worry in your life,
you don't have reasons that you can't leave
and you have no concern of sojourning and working abroad.
We actually have a lot of friends and colleagues
could sojourn and work abroad.
But a lot of time due to they have
children,
partners,
pets,
or families to take care of,
disallow them to do so.
Sojourning gives us a chance
to experience,
to analyse,
to compare,
where and what lifestyle suits us better.
And of course,
we've heard bad things about sojourning too.
The whole sojourn and work abroad
had given him a bad experience.
He went to a country
but due to unfamiliar with the local life
and he didn't know any locals,
this caused him made a lot of mistakes.
Meanwhile, he met a nasty neighbour too!
This made him feel bad from the start of his sojourn.
Then the subsequent process didn't go well either,
this left him with bad memories.
All of these things can happen in a sojourn.
It may happen no matter you're afraid of it or not.
In that case,
I think this is the best way.
Well,
that's all for today.
Thank you all for watching.
If you have any questions about a sojourn,
you can leave a message below.
I am Little Cloud,
See you next time.
Bye bye...
