Hi, in this video I'll show you how to sew a poncho like this.
By the way, you can also use the instructions for an adult poncho.
First of all, you need two different fabrics.
I have a jersey fabric and a knit fabric here.
I have both fabrics from Jessica im Nähfieber.
I put the shop in the info box below and there is also a discount code.
Be sure to check it out below.
Let's get started!
First, we spread out the fabrics.
Mine are already cut to size.
I have two layers of knit fabric and two layers of jersey fabric here.
I put them all on top of each other.
I now have four layers of fabric here, i.e. two layers of jersey and two layers of knit fabric.
Lay it down again.
The width of the fabric should range from wrist to wrist for stretched arms.
And the height, the desired length, as long as you want the poncho.
Up here is the neck section.
I'm going to put a measuring tape right in the middle here.
The width should be half the head circumference.
I'm going to cut this out a little bit now, just a little bit.
A very slight rounding.
This is what it looks like.
And now I'm going to put the two jersey fabrics right on top of each other.
So that I can look at the beautiful sides.
And then I sew these shoulder sides together, i.e. left and right next to the neck section.
And I do the same with the knit fabric.
I put it right on top of each other and sew these two sides together right and left next to the neck section.
I do this with a zigzag stitch.
But you can also sew this with an overlock or with an overlock stitch.
Sewn together, it looks like this.
Now I fold the knit fabric over.
So let the seam disappear inside.
And then I put this fabric in the other fabric.
So that I can look at the beautiful sides.
So the beautiful sides are right on top of each other.
Knit fabric and jersey fabric.
Here is the neck section.
And then nice and straight over each other.
If you want, you can of course also pin it or even better with fabric clips.
And then I sew the whole thing together around here.
I do the same again with a zigzag stitch.
But you can also sew this with an overlock or with an overlock stitch.
Then I crimp the whole thing around the neck section.
And stuff the corners out really nicely.
This is what it looks like now.
Now we only have the neck section open here.
And now I take a piece of the rest of the knit fabric.
This is as wide as the circumference of the head.
And I have now taken the height 9 cm.
Of course, you can take more or less as you like.
I fold the whole thing right sides together.
And I sew it together here on the outside.
Also with a zigzag stitch.
Then I turn the cuff over once.
So that the beautiful side is on the outside.
And the seam disappears inwards.
Then I go to the neck section here.
I put the fabrics over each other.
So now I crimp the cuff or the collar over here.
Then I pack all these fabrics together nicely.
So the knit fabric, the cuff and the jersey.
And sew around with a zigzag stitch.
And when you're done with that, the poncho is ready.
And it looks like this.
I think that's a great idea.
Also for the students at school at the moment.
Because the windows are open a lot at the moment.
Especially in the coming autumn and winter.
Just throw it over.
Or also for driving.
For children in the car seat.
I hope you enjoyed and helped the sewing instructions.
I'm happy about a thumbs up.
