I can't believe there's such a big difference between Japan and China!
Hello, everyone. I'm Ayame, and I'm a personality.
Studying abroad is done for a variety of reasons, such as learning a language or experiencing a foreign culture.
It seems that there are many foreigners who choose Japan as their destination.
According to a survey by the Japan Student Support Organization,
the number of foreign students studying abroad in 2021 was about 240,000.
If you look at the country of origin, you can see that 47% of them are Chinese, and almost half of them are Japanese.
It seems that Japan is a cheap and affordable destination for Chinese people.
So this time, let's take a look at an episode of a Chinese woman who studied abroad in Japan.
It is often said that when you go abroad, your values change, but how has she changed?
The truth of a Chinese woman who studied abroad in Japan
Nice to meet you. I am a junior high school student studying at a Chinese university.
Actually, I was studying abroad in Japan until the other day, and I just came back to China the other day.
When I was asked if I was relieved to be able to return to China safely,
To be honest, it's not like that.
Because I got used to the fun and comfortable life in Japan,
I feel very uncomfortable with my life in China now.
Unfortunately, the living standards of Japan and China are very different.
I'll tell you in detail.
A year ago, I set foot in Japan for the first time in my life.
Japan is a very wonderful country, and it is completely different from China.
For example, there is not a single piece of garbage on the streets and roads of Japan.
In China, the whole city is overflowing with garbage.
I don't care at all if someone throws away the garbage.
Rather, there are people in China who are engaged in cleaning the roads,
There are many people who feel like they are giving jobs to people who clean the roads by throwing them away.
It's a big difference from Japan, isn't it?
In addition, Japan rarely feels the danger of life while walking on the road.
Because in Japan, the road is prioritized by pedestrians.
For example, if a pedestrian is waiting at a crosswalk, a car will stop and give way.
But in China, cars are prioritized,
There is no such thing as a car stopping for a pedestrian on a road with no traffic lights.
So in China, you can see the gap where the car is gone,
Be brave and dash.
This is the trick to cross the crosswalk.
There is also such a thing,
In the city of China, the sound of the car horn resounds all day and all night.
The Chinese who go my way give way by ringing the horn,
You're appealing to me to let me through.
In other words, not only cars in China, but also people are noisy.
When I walk around the city, there is always a fight somewhere.
The cause of the quarrel is that you broke into the line or got in the way,
It's a very trivial thing,
The Chinese tend to express their emotions,
Even a little thing develops into a fight.
Compared to that, there are fewer Japanese people who express their emotions,
There are almost no people fighting in the city.
Even if you raise it a little, you can see that there are many differences.
When I first came to Japan, I was surprised by the difference,
I took a picture of the beautiful city of Japan and posted it on SNS,
Less than a week from the next day, it became everyday life,
I don't think anything.
Because if you live in Japan, it's natural to get used to it.
But this habit is surprisingly scary.
When I went from China to Japan, I got used to living in Japan in less than a week.
But after returning from Japan to China,
I couldn't get used to living in China at all.
No, no, I was born in China and lived in China for more than 20 years,
There is a big advantage, right?
It's impossible not to get used to living in China now.
I think so.
My friends told me that.
But it seems that humans can get used to a comfortable space quickly,
It seems that it takes time to get used to an uncomfortable space.
I'll give you an example of why I thought so.
After returning from Japan, I was troubled by the toilet when I went out.
Japanese toilets are completely different from Chinese toilets.
Have you ever thought that Japanese girls often go to the toilet?
There is a reason for that.
Japanese girls always wear cute makeup, right?
I go to the toilet when I fix my makeup when I go out,
I think there are many times when I go to the toilet.
We Chinese think that makeup is impossible in the toilet, right?
But Japanese toilets, especially department stores and shopping malls,
The toilet is very luxurious and comfortable to use.
I think that the first-class hotel toilet in China is in a department store or shopping mall in Japan.
There is a powder room in the toilet of a shopping mall that I often used in Japan,
There are chairs and actress mirrors to sit and fix your makeup,
There were also dryers and fitting rooms.
That's not the only thing to be surprised about.
In Japan, there are toilets in almost all convenience stores and fast-food restaurants,
You can use it anywhere for free.
These are not as beautiful as department stores,
But such toilets are equipped with toilet paper,
It is highly likely to have a comfortable washlet.
You can't think of it in China, right?
Speaking of toilet paper,
In the first place, there are many toilets in China where toilet paper is still not flowing.
Because the quality of the toilet paper is poor and does not dissolve in water.
And because the water pressure of the toilet is too low,
There is a possibility that the paper will be clogged in the toilet.
So what do you do with the used toilet paper?
You throw it away in a trash can.
And in Japan, the level of cleanliness is such that even public toilets can be used.
The public toilet in China is so dirty that I absolutely don't want to use it.
The difference in the toilet situation made me worry.
Until you know Japan, don't take too much water when you go out.
When you're in trouble, you can use it right away.
I used to check the cleanliness of the toilet in advance.
I went out after preparing various things about the toilet.
But by experiencing a comfortable toilet life in Japan,
I completely lost the consciousness of taking care of the toilet before going out.
So when I went shopping in my hometown after returning home,
I drank too much tea in a cafe and was in a hurry to find a toilet.
In addition, in China, toilets are often not equipped with toilet paper.
When Chinese people go out, they always carry tissues or toilet paper.
I completely lost that common sense because of my Japanese life.
I had no choice but to buy toilet paper at a nearby store and try my best to find a toilet.
Oh, I remembered when I was shopping.
There is a big difference between Japan and China in the number of store clerks.
One of the things that surprised me when I came to Japan was that the store clerks were very kind and kind.
In Japan, the store clerks are always smiling, and they are polite.
But in China, there is no sense of welcoming customers like in Japan,
and the store clerks are rude.
On the contrary, customers buy things with the attitude of saying thank you.
For example, in Japan, when you buy something and give it to someone,
you often put it on a tray or put your hands on it and give it to them politely.
But in China, it is normal to throw it and give it to someone.
Also, I went to a Japanese department store and bought a little expensive souvenir,
but I was surprised that the store clerk wrapped the product beautifully with a newspaper.
I had never been wrapped so beautifully in China.
Finally, I will introduce the biggest memory of my life in Japan.
That is Chinese food in Japan.
You think Chinese food is Chinese food, right?
But that's not the case at all.
I realized that there are many Chinese dishes that only exist in Japan.
It's not Japanese food, it's not Western food, it's not Chinese food, it's a strange dish.
But they were all delicious.
The representative is grilled dumplings.
In Japan, grilled dumplings are the standard,
but in China, boiled or steamed dumplings are common.
When I ate grilled dumplings for the first time in my life,
I felt a gap between the crispy texture and the usual dumplings,
but as I ate more and more, I started to feel it was delicious.
Also, I was surprised by the dumpling set meal, where you eat rice instead of dumplings.
In China, dumplings are treated as staple food,
but I still don't understand the Japanese feeling of eating staple food instead of staple food.
I still have some questions about grilled dumplings,
but my best is shrimp chili.
In China, shrimp chili is a classic Sichuan-style spicy seasoning,
but Japanese shrimp chili has a ketchup taste and a sweet taste.
Surprisingly, this goes well with rice and beer, so you can eat as much as you want.
Also, Tenshinhan was delicious.
I thought Tenshinhan was a character from Dragon Ball,
but I didn't know there was such a dish.
Tenshinhan is a dish like fuyohai on white rice.
But unlike Chinese fuyohai, Tenshinhan in Japan is yellow.
What does that mean?
Chinese fuyohai is made of only egg whites, so it's white,
but Tenshinhan in Japan uses both egg yolks and egg whites, so it's yellow.
It's delicious when you eat it with rice,
with a moderately thick sweet and sour sauce on top of the omelet with ingredients.
To be honest, I don't really like Chinese fuyohai,
but Tenshinhan in Japan is the best.
Also, surprisingly, there is a dish called cold Chinese food in Japan.
What does it mean to cool Chinese food?
This is a dish where you put various ingredients on top of boiled ramen and eat it with sauce.
It is said to be a classic of summer in Japan.
Actually, I've never eaten anything cold other than bread,
but this cold Chinese food grabbed my stomach tightly.
Because in China, there is a thought that cold food is not good because it cools the body.
So in China, there are people who refrain from eating cold food,
and there are few shops that offer cold food.
Some people say that cold food is bad and drink warm beer.
But in Japan, there are a lot of really cold dishes.
Zaru soba, cold udon, cold tea, cold noodles, and cold Chinese food.
What kind of nerves do Japanese people have to eat cold ramen?
When I first learned about the existence of cold Chinese food, I thought it was impossible.
But when I took a bite, I was captivated by its deliciousness in an instant.
The combination of sour sauce and noodles is excellent.
There are a lot of ingredients such as cucumber, ham, pickled ginger, shrimp, etc., and it is colorful.
Above all, you can eat it when you have no appetite, so it makes you forget the heat of summer.
Even now that I'm back in China, I remember the deliciousness of cold Chinese food.
I wonder if I should try it someday in my kitchen.
By the way, it is said that there is no Chinese food such as pork, shrimp, and Chinese rice bowl in China.
In addition, the taste and texture are very different from those of China and Japan.
Japanese Chinese food is really interesting.
Well, in summary, living in Japan is the best.
Unfortunately, it may take a little longer to get used to a little inconvenient and noisy life in China.
If I can't get used to living in China, I'm thinking about studying abroad in Japan again.
Reaction from abroad
This Chinese person came back from Japan to China, right?
It's natural to be shocked because he came back from a country that is polite and has good service.
In China, you have to pay an expensive medical fee when you go to the hospital, and you have to pay it in advance.
So many people can't get proper medical care.
In that respect, I think Japan is wonderful because everyone can receive medical care equally in Japan.
Chinese food can be said to be completely Japanese food.
The taste is too different from the real Chinese food, and there are many Chinese dishes that do not exist in Tianjin or China.
Japanese public toilets are clean and wonderful.
If you don't look inside the American toilet, you won't even know if it can be used.
And the door is small and you can see your feet.
I stayed in Japan for a year at work and then came back to China.
When I went to a Chinese movie theater right after I returned, I was quite shocked by the noise of the audience.
Summary
I think you can see that there are various differences between Japan and China.
Some people may be relieved that they were born in Japan because they know the current situation of the Chinese city.
In a world where globalization is advancing, it will be more and more necessary to know the city of each country, the personality of the people, and the habits of life in order to live in an international society in the future.
I would like to do my best to protect the current charm of Japan so that it can be evaluated by many foreigners in the future.
How was it? If you like, I would be happy if you could tell me your impressions in the comments.
