Tour the iconic French Château du Champ-de-Bataille with architect, designer and owner Jacques Garcia.
In France, we had the chance to have a law by Mr. Malraux
that allowed all the Châtelains to open their houses
by means of a tax deduction.
So we were able to enter places absolutely reserved for an elite.
And through that, all this very different cultural world,
all these unparalleled objects
accumulated by generations of powerful people,
connoisseurs, rich, cultivated,
it opened up to me.
And I felt there that this was the world I wanted to enter.
When I was about ten years old, with my father,
it was a place, it was the Belle-aux-Bois-d'Ormond.
And deep down, I had told my father,
he was the one who translated it to me afterwards,
I had told him, but I would like to be an architect.
And he said to me, but why would you like to be an architect?
Because I would like to do beautiful things like that.
And it's true, because in the end,
I have an extremely varied philosophy.
I am both passionate about history,
a historian myself,
the man to whom the Château de Versailles was entrusted,
the man to whom the renovation of all the rooms of,
I would say, the French furniture of the Louvre Museum was entrusted.
Why? Because I believe that knowledge
is the basis of modernity.
And that without knowledge,
the idea of modernity goes beyond modernism.
