After growing up in Japan, Shen Yun Principal Dancer Kenji Kobayashi moved to New York to learn classical Chinese dance, connecting him with his Chinese side. Kenji explains that it’s not race that is important, but culture, and interestingly enough, the same celebrated cultural characteristics can be found not only in the ancient traditions of both China and Japan, but in the traditional cultures of all nations.

“Fighting, being angry, or being sad, that is not your true self. The normal state of your true self is happy, positive, and bright,” and remember, “to become a good dancer, you must start from your true self" (Kobayashi Kenji Dancer)
