Qu Yuan was born into a noble family of Chu State in 343 B.C. He was a poet and politician during the Warring States period. He was proficient in history and literature, and he had insights into the situation of various countries and the way of governing; he was smart and eloquent. Therefore, in his 20s, he became Zuo Tu, the imperial advisor of King Huai of Chu, and his position was second only to the prime minister of Chu State.
