How to use Canva | The BEST 2022 Tutorial for BEGINNERS

In this tutorial, I'm going to show you everything you need to know to start designing with Canva. This is a Canva tutorial for beginners, so if you are thinking about creating a new account or maybe you already have a Canva account and try it for the first time and you failed over it, well, this tutorial is for you. So make sure to watch this video until the end so I can solve all your doubts and you can start creating beautiful graphics, animations, and videos for free. And yes, I said free because the tutorial that I'm going to show you today is going to show you everything that you can create for free in Canva. So if you guys are interested in this tutorial, let's go to my computer. So here I am in Canva.com and the first step, it will be to create your own Canva account and you can do it by clicking on sign up on the top of the page or if you have your account already, let's log in. In this case, I'm going to show you how to create your account. You can click on sign up. Here on this window pop-up, Canva is going to give you different options to create your own Canva account and this will take you literally just a couple of seconds. So I will actually log in into my account because I already have one and I will see you in one second. I'm already logged in into my account and let's start by breaking down this page. And I see three different sections over here. I see the first one that is a navigation bar on top. Second one is this panel on the left-hand side and then the one that is in the middle. It will be the third section that I'm going to talk about today. Let's start by the first section, which is the navigation bar on top. Here we see Canva's logo and this button that says home. Both of these will take us to the homepage and then we see these different drop-downs. The first one, it will take us to different template categories. So we see the different options, social media, personal, business, marketing, and then we see different options below each category. So for example, for social media, we see Instagram stories, Instagram posts, and so on. If you click on any of these options, Canva will take you to a landing page and we can see different templates that we can use to start designing. So let's click on Instagram stories so you can see what is going to happen. So here we are and at the moment we have 68,000 templates that you can choose from. So you will see so many different aesthetics and different layouts that I'm sure you're going to find something in particular that is going to work for your project. Okay, so this is about templates. Let's go back to the homepage and now let's talk about features. We have all these different categories over here. We can access to the photo library in Canva, which is quite extensive. We also have access to the icons or illustrations library in Canva from this drop-down. We can also print products directly from Canva and these different options will depend on the country where you are located. I know that some countries have more options than others. So it will be worth that you go and read more about print products by clicking on this link. Then we have the apps section. We can create so many things inside Canva. For example, we can add Google Maps to our projects. We can use the GIFs available in Giphy, create QR codes for free, link our Bitmojis to our Canva accounts and they have so many other apps that are going to help you be super creative in Canva. Then we have the explore section in which we can learn more about Teams and also create our own graphs and charts inside Canva. Lastly, we have the download section because we can actually download Canva into our computers or our mobile phones. So we have the options for Mac, Windows, Android, and iOS. We also have a couple of buttons or options available in the navigation bar on top, which are the help center in case that you have a question related to Canva or something is not working fine. Go here. You may be able to find the answer or ask questions to Canva. Then we have the account settings. You can create your own design by clicking on this button. You can search by different dog types or create a design with a custom size, edit a photo, or import a file directly to Canva. Then we have our profile picture that is going to give us access to more account settings. And you can also upload a photo so you can have your profile picture over here. Now let's go to the second section of this homepage, which is the menu on the left-hand side. In this case, my account is linked to two different teams. So that's why I see this option in here. And if I want to change from one team to the other, I can just click on it and change my team. Then we have this home option, which is selected because I'm already in the homepage. We have all your designs. From here, you can access all the designs that you have created, then share with you all the designs that other Canva users have shared with you, all your folders. With a free account, you can create up to three different folders and you will see that this is pretty useful when you are going to create a lot of designs. This can help you a lot. Lastly, on this section, we see crash. If you deleted a design or a document by accident and you want to restore it, you have 30 days to do so and you will find your document over here. We also have teams in Canva and you can create them right here. You can add a team name. If you want, you can also add a logo. And then you can add some members to your team. Then we have these two features, which are Brand Kit and Content Planner. These two options are available for Canva Pro users. So I'm not going to talk about in depth about these two features, but we have two tutorials that you can watch if you are interested in learning more about them. We have a tutorial that I'm going to link over here in which we teach you how to set your own Brand Kit and how to use it. I also have another tutorial that I'm going to link over here in which I teach you how to use the Content Planner. This basically is going to allow you to connect your social media accounts to Canva and Canva will post the designs automatically for you. So this is going to save you a lot of time if you are going to create many graphics for your social media accounts. Now let's go back to the homepage and let's tackle this last section. From here, we can create designs with a custom size by clicking on this button. We can insert or add our width and our height. We can select the different options that we see here, pixels, inches, millimeters, centimeters, and then create your own design. If you want to start designing by using a template, you can use the search bar. So let's say you want to create a design for some valentines. So let's type valentines, hit enter, and then Canva is going to take you to this search result in which you will see thousands of templates related to this specific topic. And you can also filter it over here by a specific dog type. You can also filter it by style, theme, price, and color. Price, it means free or pro. You will see that a lot because in Canva, we have a mix of free templates, free templates with paid elements, and also we have templates available only for Canva Pro users. So if you are watching this search result, we see some templates, they have a dollar sign, a crown, or some of them, they don't have anything. The ones that don't have any label, these are free and you can see it when you hover on top of them. The one with the dollar sign, it means that this is a free template, but it contains paid elements. And the one with the crown is available only for Canva Pro users. So let me just open one of them. For example, this one that says paid and Canva is going to take me directly to the Canva editor. In here, you see that the image in the background, it has a watermark. So this means that this is the paid element, but you can change it for a free photo or free image that you have uploaded to Canva. Let's say this one that is for free, you can change it and then you will be able to download this template for free. I will talk about it more into detail along the video, but let's go back to the homepage. Another way to start creating a design is by clicking on these two buttons. We have the option to edit a photo. So if we click over here, we can upload any photo available on our computer. Then we have this other icon that will allow us to start designing by uploading a file into Canva. Below the search bar, we will see different dog type categories. So at the moment, we are located in the For You section. And in this section, we will see different dog types that you use the most. So these are the dog types that I use often when I'm creating in Canva, but then you have access to presentation templates, social media, video, and so on. If you are going to create a video in Canva, I do recommend that you start by creating a video dog type because these dog types, they have specific video editing tools that won't be available if you start creating your design by another dog type. For this specific project, we are going to create an Instagram post. So I will go to social media and then click on Instagram post. And here Canva is going to open a new page and is going to take us directly to the Canva editor. And here I want to stop because if you guys have any doubt or any question along the video, please feel free to leave your comments or your questions in the description of this video because we are going to help you as much as we can and we're going to answer all your questions. Here we're going to break down the page into different sections as well. So again, the navigation bar on top, we have a bunch of different options and features. On the left hand side, we have a menu as well. When you just land into the Canva editor, you will have the templates section open. So I just close it so you can see better the menu. And then we have the page in which we are going to design. So let's start with the navigation bar on top. We have the home button, which is going to take us back to the homepage. Then we have the file menu, which is going to give us access to all the document features. So from here, we can create a new design. We can show rulers. So pay attention at the moment, the editor is kind of empty, but when I click show rulers, we now have rulers on the top and on the left hand side. Then we can also show guides. At the moment, we don't have any guides, so I can create them by clicking on the ruler and then just dragging my mouse down and the same way on the laterals. Let's go back to file again, and I'm just going to deactivate show guides for a second and activate show margins. And this is going to show us a safe area in which we should be positioning all our important information or elements. Then we have show print bleed, and this is for the people that are going to end up printing their designs. We have the save option, which is actually automatic in Canva, but it's always nice to save once in a while if you want to be sure that your design has been saved. Then you can save to folder. I showed you at the beginning of this video that we can create folders in order to organize our documents. Then we have resolved comments. In Canva, you can design or you can collaborate with other people, other Canva users. So you can add comments to your designs by using this icon over here, and you can see the resolved comments if you have any with this button. Then we have the version history, and this is available only for Canva Pro users. This is in case that you have accidentally saved a version that you don't want and you want to reverse it, then this is the option for you, only available for Canva Pro users. We have make a copy of this specific design. You can download your design from here, open in desktop app, and also have access to the help feature in Canva. Next, we have resize, which is also available for Canva Pro users. Every time that you see this crown, it means that it is not a free option or free feature. From here, you can resize, give a different dimension to your design with just one click. And then we have the option to go back, undo or redo with these two arrows over here. You can rename your document by clicking on this box. So let's say Instagram post. You can also rename your document by clicking on file. This is another option to rename your document. You can try Canva Pro directly from this button. You can share your document with other people. From here, you can share or create links for different options. You can share a link to edit so other people can edit and modify your design. You can share or create a link to use as a template. So basically, you are going to create templates out of your design. And lastly, you can share a link so people can view, only view, but not edit your design. Then we have this button that says Insights. And this is a Canva Pro feature. I'm not going to talk about it. But if you want to learn more about these Canva Pro features, you can leave me a comment down below. Just let me know which of the Canva Pro features you want to learn more about and we can create a tutorial about it. Then we have the Download button, which is self-explanatory. And then we have these three dots that is going to give us different options to share our design with other people. So this is the first section in the Canva Editor. Let's move on to the second one, which is the menu on the left-hand side. Here we have different windows or different categories that are going to be our best friends when we are going to design in Canva. The first option is Templates. And from here you can see different template categories available already in Canva. But if you don't find anything that you like, you can also search for a specific keyword. So in this example, I'm going to type carousel because I would like to create an Instagram carousel. So let's see what do we have over here. If you like any of the templates, just click on top of it. So let's see this one. From here you can add a specific page because this template in particular has six different pages. So you can apply or insert these templates by clicking on each specific template or page that we see here. Or you can apply all six pages by clicking on this button. So let's click on top of it. And now I have all my carousel templates in this document and I have now six pages that I can edit. Let's continue. Let's go to Elements. Here we have a collection of different elements available in Canva. So you will see lines and shapes, graphics, photos, videos, audio, charts, frames, and grids. Now let's go to Uploads. From here you can upload your own media. You can upload images, videos, and audio. And also you can record yourself directly from Canva. And you can even record your computer screen. I also have a tutorial in which I teach you how to do that. So I'm going to leave the link over here. And I'm also going to leave the link to all the tutorials that I'm mentioning in the description of this video. I think I didn't mention before, but our channel is all about Canva. I think you are going to learn a lot with us. Okay, so let's move on. Let's go to the Photos category. Here we have an extensive photo library inside Canva. So I'm sure that you're going to find anything that you need within Canva. So you don't have to use any other platform or download them from other places. You have everything right here. And the cool thing is that you can bring these images directly to your design by just clicking on top of it or dragging your photo to your design. We have the Text category over here. So let me add a new page to show you. You can add a heading. You can also add a subheading and a body text by just clicking on these three buttons. You also have font combinations, so you can bring them to your design by just clicking on top of them. And you will have some other options that are available for Canva Pro. But if you go below, you will find some other free options that you may like. Let's go to the Audio section. Again, here you find a media library and some of them are available for free. Some of them are available only for Canva Pro users. And lastly, we have the More option in which you will find all the Canva apps and some other options that are also very useful when designing. So you have Styles. From here, you can give a completely style to your design with just one click. So let's say that I want to change the style for this first page for a completely different style. So let's go with this one. I have this completely different style. So I change the fonts and the colors on this page. Let me just do it once again with a different style pack. So let's go for this one. And as you can see, we have a completely different design with just one click. Let me go back to the original design. And let's go back again to More. We have a video library. In case that you are creating videos, you can find media over here available inside Canva. Again, you can record yourself and you can search for specific videos. Let's go back to More. You have Backgrounds. And by just clicking on top of them, you can change the background in your design. Let's go back to More. We have Charts. You can add charts to your designs. And if you change the data on your chart, and if you change the data on your chart, the design or the illustration will change. So let me just do it from here. So you see that the blue section is changing if I'm changing the percentage. Let's go back again to More. Here we have Folders. But this section, it will be more interesting if you are using a Canva Pro account because you will have access to your own folders. Then on More, we have, again, access to all the different apps that I mentioned at the beginning of this tutorial. And I do recommend that you try all of them because they are available for free and they are going to allow you to create pretty cool designs. Let's close this window. And now let's talk about how to edit our designs. Now let's pay attention to the white bar. This is actually a toolbar and it is going to change if we select different items or different elements on our design. So if I touch a text box, we will see all the different text features. If I select this shape, we will have a different menu. And if we select a line, it will also have a different menu. If we select a photo and we go to Edit Image, we will have different features that are available only for images. So we have the Adjust menu. We see Brightness, Contrast, Saturation. And we can have access to more options if we click on See All. We can add filters. And you also have access to different apps or features available in Canva over here. So that is basically how you will be able to customize a template. Just click on any of the elements to change the color if you wish. Or if you want to change the content on the text boxes, double click on the text box and change your content. You can also change the size of your elements by clicking on the element or the text box and dragging the corners. So like this, you can adjust the size. Or click on these arrows to change the location of your element. Once you have your design ready and you have customized everything, in my case, I think I will delete the page number one, page number two. Go back to Templates and add the first page, which is going to be the cover of my carousel. In this case, I'm going to add a page, move it upwards, and then add my cover. Okay, you have your design ready. You have customized everything, colors, fonts, text, images. And then just go to Download, click here. You can select the file type. So you have all these different options. Then you can select either a specific page of your design or all the pages and then download. We're going to wait until our design is ready. And I'm going to show you later on how it looks on your computer. Meanwhile, I'm going to show you that on the navigation bar on top, you have these three dots in which you have different options in which you can share your design with other people. And here I have the carousel that I just downloaded from Canva to my computer. Here I have all the different pages of the design or the Instagram carousel. And this will be ready to be uploaded to Instagram or to use it the way that you want to use this design. I want to add that Canva is constantly changing and adding new features.
