In 1945, five American Avenger bombers
took off for a planned exercise near the Bermuda Triangle.
In the middle of the exercise, the planes were hit by heavy rain and hurricane winds,
despite the favorable weather forecast.
The pilots were extremely disoriented
and contacted the base via radio to report that their navigation equipment had failed.
The last thing the base heard was,
«When the first plane has less than 10 gallons left,
we will all begin to descend together.
And then, only interference».
Five planes and their 14 passengers
disappeared in this mysterious place forever.
During his first trip to the New World in 1492,
Christopher Columbus sailed through the Bermuda Triangle.
Columbus reported that one night,
while on the deck of a ship, he noticed a giant light appear in the distance.
It didn't look like anything he had seen before.
Columbus looked at his compass to understand the direction,
but it gave a mess of readings.
Perhaps you have noticed that the Bermuda Triangle is not shown on any map of the world.
This is because the official institutions refuse to admit that it exists.
In March 1918, the American vessel Cyclops with a crew of 306 people
left Barbados and headed home to Baltimore.
The course of the ship passed through the Bermuda Triangle,
and this ship was never seen again.
Cyclops did not give a signal of disaster and simply disappeared without any explanation,
becoming the largest ship of all that disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle.
Its wreckage was never found.
No one knows for sure how many ships and planes disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle.
According to approximate estimates, it is 50 ships and 20 planes.
In most cases, there was no explanation for the disappearance,
and no wreckage was ever found.
In 1800, a large sailing vessel called Pickering left the United States
and headed for West India.
The ship entered the Bermuda Triangle with its crew of 90 people,
and no one else heard about it.
Pickering was the first confirmed ship to disappear in the Bermuda Triangle.
It is believed that it was carried away by a storm,
but since no wreckage has ever been found,
we will never know for sure.
The famous play by William Shakespeare, Storm, was inspired by the Bermuda Triangle.
Sailors returned home to England and began to tell stories
about insidious waters near the Bahamas,
where ships mysteriously disappeared.
These stories reached Shakespeare and inspired him to write a play about a sea storm
that carried the ship to a mysterious country.
Shakespeare's play is based on the story of a 17th-century ship called Sea Adventure.
The ship was transporting goods from England to Virginia,
when a strong storm suddenly hit it in the Bermuda Triangle.
The ship fought the storm for three days and could barely reach the shore.
The survivors were thrown out to the deserted part of the Bermuda Islands,
where they lived for nine months.
After the Avengers' planes disappeared without a trace,
a large-scale search operation was announced.
Ships and planes searched the Bermuda Triangle
in search of at least some signs of planes.
The Mariner hydroplane was involved in these searches.
It took off at 7.27 p.m. and in three minutes
transmitted a regular radio message.
No one else heard about it.
No traces of the hydroplane and five Avenger planes were found.
A large-scale investigation into the disappearance of these vehicles
did not bear fruit.
Since the Bermuda Triangle is not officially recognized as a place,
no one knows its exact location or size.
Some believe that it covers about 1.3 million square kilometers
in the Bermuda Islands.
Others believe that the area of the triangle is almost 4 million square kilometers.
One of the most lively sea routes in the world passes through the Bermuda Triangle.
Sceptics believe that only this fact reveals the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle.
According to statistics, the more lively a region is,
the higher the frequency of accidents and disappearances.
This is logical.
However, the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle is not connected with the frequency of disappearances,
but with the absence of wreckage and the explanation of tragedies.
The deepest point of the Atlantic Ocean, the depth of the Milwaukee,
is located in the Bermuda Triangle.
The maximum depth of this place is more than 8,200 meters.
This is one of the deepest points at the bottom of the ocean,
but it is far from the 10,700 meters of the Mariana Trench.
However, such a large depth can explain the absence of wreckage.
The weather in the Bermuda Triangle is unpredictable and very harsh.
Storms occur suddenly, and then also suddenly end.
Theoretically, this explains why there were so few signals of disaster.
Pilots and sailors simply did not notice the approaching hurricane.
In 1800, the American ship Insurgent was patrolling
and shortly moored to a coastal base before going out to sea again.
There they saw it for the last time.
According to reports, at about the same time, a strong storm broke out in West India.
They say it was so powerful
that it could lead to flooding both Insurgent and Pickering,
which disappeared almost at the same time.
As in the case of Pickering, no wreckage of Insurgent was found.
A popular theory assumes that the waves of the killer are to blame for many disappearances.
Such waves, scientists call a storm tide.
They occur when several weather phenomena occur at the same time,
which causes huge waves up to 30 meters high.
Eyewitnesses say that these waves look like giant walls of water.
They are really capable of instantly flooding the ship, leaving no traces.
Joshua Slocum was an extremely talented sailor.
He was the first person to sail around the world alone.
But, unfortunately, he could not cope with the Bermuda Triangle.
In November 1909, Slocum said goodbye to his wife
and went on one of his ordinary winter trips to West India.
Slocum's wife reported his disappearance
after he had not been in touch for several months.
They say that before disappearing in the Bermuda Triangle,
he went to Miami to replenish his supplies.
Not far from the coast of Japan, you can find the Bermuda Triangle of the Pacific Ocean.
This place is called the Sea of the Devil.
In the period from 1950 to 1954,
nine ships disappeared in this area without a trace.
The ship Kaio Maru 5 was sent to investigate these inexplicable disappearances
and also disappeared.
After this incident, the Japanese authorities declared the area a dangerous zone
and recommended sailors to bypass it.
At the bottom of the ocean, decomposing organisms create high concentrations of methane,
which gets trapped under water.
This gas is first accumulated, and then, boom, it is pulled out of it.
Methane rises to the surface and erupts.
If a ship is found in the place of such eruption,
the water around it will become less dense,
which will make it quickly and unexpectedly sink.
Some scientists believe that such a phenomenon
may be the cause of many disappearances in the Bermuda Triangle.
But this theory is not very convincing.
The US Geological Survey states that in the last 15,000 years
there were no large gas emissions in the Bermuda Triangle.
In July 2015, two teenagers disappeared after they had sailed off the coast of Florida.
It is not clear what these guys were actually planning.
They told their parents that they were going fishing,
and told their friends that they were going to the Bahamas.
Soon after they left the coast, a thunderstorm began,
and the boys were never heard of again.
The adjacent area was searched as best as possible, but, unfortunately, nothing was found.
A year later, a boat with a broken smartphone and personal belongings
was found near the coast of the Bermuda Triangle.
One of the most popular and at the same time crazy theories
trying to explain the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle
belongs to the writer Charles Berlitz.
He claims that the lost city of Atlantis is located in this area.
According to him, the disappearance of ships, planes, and breakage of equipment
occurred due to the rays of energy
that were produced by special energy crystals that feed Atlantis.
And although it sounds stupid,
Berlitz's theory turned out to be convincing enough
for more than 20 million people around the world to buy his book.
