Hi there, welcome. Today we're going to be making 10 Christmas crafts that are gorgeous
and gift worthy but I will let you be the judge of that. I'm Elizabeth from A Well-Purposed Woman.
Thank you so much for joining me. Let's get started. For this first craft I made a nativity
sign and I started with one of these three dollar dollar tree sign blanks and I am just going to
take some antiquing wax and just rub that on the outer edges of the sign. I'm not going to
do anything in the middle for now. I'm just going to color the frame of the sign. Now you could use
stain for this as well or paint. I find this wax really easy to use. I don't have to wait for it to
dry before moving on to the next step. So I'm just going to take some antiquing wax and just continue
to cover the outer frame of the sign. Now once the frame is covered I'm going to take some of this
dollar tree wallpaper and this is self-adhesive. They have all these different colors and styles
of the dollar tree. I really liked this herringbone faux wood look and so I'm going to use that for
the backdrop of this sign. So all I did is just place the wallpaper in the sign and then I just
made little dents as to where I was going to cut. So then once I fit that in the inside of my sign
I'm just going to take off the backing and then stick it to the back of this sign. Now you could
definitely use mod podge or hot glue as well to just reinforce this stickiness on the sign but
I found that the wallpaper adhered pretty well to this sign without adding any extra adhesive.
You could use the other styles as well that you find. I'm going to be making
nativity scenes so I like the wooden look but once that was in place and I just took my scraper here
and just smoothed it out on to the back of the sign. Now you can see how much potential this sign
has already. I found this nativity cutout at Hobby Lobby and it was marked as $3.50 but then it was
50% off so it was $1.75 and I thought that would just work perfectly with these Dollar Tree signs.
So I'm going to take some wood glue and I'm just painting it on the edges of the cutout where the
edge of the nativity set will hit the frame and I'm just going to wood glue that into place. So
once I had it all set then I'm just going to put a candle on top to weigh it down but I'll just
fill in these two little edges of the manger here as well. Now I find there's a lot of deals at
Hobby Lobby around Christmas time that match pretty closely to the Dollar Tree so you can
find some really nice crafting supplies for a really affordable price and I'm going to just
weigh down this cutout until the wood glue dries. So I'm going to let it sit for a couple of hours
and then we're going to come back to it and you can see here I added a little bit of raffia down
by the manger and peat moss over by the baby Jesus and then I just added the letters J-O-Y
for joy at the top of the manger and I did put a little tea light behind the star as well so this
is our cute little manger scene. So easy and simple but really gorgeous for Christmas.
I think that this is a great craft to do and I think it's something that almost anyone could do.
Now this next craft is probably one of the favorites I did on this video series but I saw
this piece cut out at the Dollar Tree for $1.25. It was on this raw looking wood so I'm going to
again take my antiquing wax and I'm just going to rub it all over the sign until I stain the sign
with the wax and I was just going for kind of a deeper wood color and again you can use stain,
you can use paint. I really like how this antiquing wax turned the wood a nice color and the wood
grain really showed through well I think with this wax so I would recommend using that as well
and the nice thing is you don't have to wait for it to dry. And then I just took an old sweater
here and I thought this white one looked really nice with the color wood I chose and I cut out
the sweater to be the same shape as the back of the peace sign and I did it a little shorter
than what the sign was just so that you won't see the edges of the sweater when we flip it around
but we're just going to cut out a rectangle piece of the sweater and then I'm going to hot glue that
on to this wood plaque and that's going to be the letters of the peace sign and then I actually
just had a piece of scrap wood in the garage that was about a half inch wider on each of the sides
so I think it was like a four by one board and I'm just going to take these upholstery tacks
which I actually took off an old ottoman that I was redoing and you can use nails you could use
you know wood glue or hot glue it probably would recommend something a little stronger than hot
glue like e6000 and just attach this dollar tree cutout to a piece of wood and you can just use a
scrap one you have on hand you could use it on the cabinet or you could use something else
similar that's about the same size of the cutout and we're going to get this really pretty peace
sign and I just love how this looked it was so simple and easy but it really was very stunning
and then the last step was I took two of these two wooden snowflakes that I had got the dollar tree
and I just hot glued that in the spaces of the p and the a where you'd normally see a cutout and
this is how it turned out it really is beautiful I love how it turned out I think you'd be really
pleased with this sign if you chose to make something similar let me know down below what
you think but I think it turned out really beautiful and was so easy to make
you may have seen a craft similar to this next one but it's so fun to do that I really thought
it was worth mentioning again so we're going to be making angel ornaments and we're just going to
use old an old hymnal and I'm just going to take two sheets at a time and I'm just going to fold
the sheet of paper back and forth back and forth like making a fan until the entire sheet of paper
is used and then this is going to be the skirt for our angel now there are different ways to
make these angels I'm going to do something a little bit different than I've done in the past
and we're just going to fold again the sheet of paper and then once it's all the way folded I'm
going to take the two sheets apart I'm just going to use one per dress and I'm just going to fold
that sheet of paper in half and this is going to be our angel's dress and we're going to take
hot glue and just glue both sides of that paper together so that when it opens up it'll be like a
half semi-circle dress and that is going to be the bottom of our angel and then for the angel's
wings you could actually use a page of the hymnal as well and just cut them a little shorter
instead of doing that I actually took little raffia bows and you can just make your own or
you can buy these ones I actually got them eight for a dollar twenty five I think or something at
Hobby Lobby and I'm just going to hot glue that on to the top of my book page and then I'm going
to feed twine through this upholstery needle and I'm going to use that to just go through a wooden
bead here and this is going to be our angel's head I'm going to tie off a knot below the bead
of the angel and that's going to be attached to the wings and then with the top portion I'm going
to tie a knot as well and that's what I'm going to be using to hang this ornament from the Christmas
tree so you just tie a knot on both sides and then we're going to hot glue that wooden bead
on top of those wings and our angel is going to really be complete after that point but you
can decide if you want to further embellish your angel I'm going to take my hot glue gun and just
glue the angel's head on and then those little pieces of twine are going to hang down in front
of her and then what I'm going to do with those is just tie a little bow as if if I can get my
hot glue gun to work here I'm going to tie a little bow with the twine hanging down and that's
kind of just like the front of her dress just another way to add a little bit of detail to my
angel's dress here if I can get it tied just give me one second there we go okay and we can leave
the angel just like that or we can further embellish it with buttons I actually got these
little golden leaves off of mason jars from the dollar tree this fall and you can watch a video
down below on different fall crafts we did but these were left over from the mason jars that I
repurposed and so I'm going to repurpose these leaves into this angel's wings and I think these
are really cute and emphasizing her wings even more and if I can find another set I'll do one
more set of angels but here are my little angels they're really cute and so easy to
make this is a fun craft to do with kids and adults alike
I mentioned the fall dollar tree videos if you saw the one from fall you probably will recognize
this little sign as I was making the fall one I had in mind to do a Christmas one as well so I
saved one of these little signs from fall but maybe the dollar tree has something similar for
Christmas I haven't seen anything yet but if you have let me know down below in the comments
we're actually still waiting for our dollar tree to roll out all its Christmas stuff so
hoping that happens soon let me know if the stuff is out in your dollar tree I'd love to hear
where you're from and if you guys are already seeing Christmas stuff at your dollar tree I
know ours will be really soon if it's not out already as I'm speaking so anyways we're going
to take this old hymnal page and we're going to cover the background of our little sign
now I just kind of again rubbed the paper on top of the sign to get an idea of how big
I would need it and I was a little short on the bottom there which is a bummer
but I'm going to take the bottom portion of the same page and just cover up that little
bottom edge there and I'm just going to hot glue it into place on the background of the sign
now even though the hymnal page was antiquated in appearance I'm going to make it even darker
by adding some of that vintage wax to the background and I just wanted a little bit
darker shade and so I'm just going to change the color of the paper slightly you could definitely
do other things too to change the paper color like use coffee or tea if you don't have this
antiquing wax but this wax is working really well for me today so I'm just going to go with this for
now it's easy to use and then like I said it doesn't take any time really for it to dry and
you can just keep moving with your project so I'm just going to cover the whole sheet with the wax
and then I'm going to start placing our little Christmas scene on the top of it now when you see
the video it's been edited but usually I spend quite a bit of time just kind of playing around
with the placement of things like where I put things and I wanted to add a little manger to
the bottom of my sheet the song is joy to the world so it's talking about Jesus's birth and
Jesus coming into the world so I really wanted the baby Jesus to be the emphasis of my little
scene here so I started by hot gluing some raffia on the bottom of my little sign and then I just
took a wood bead and then wrapped some burlap this was actually a burlap ribbon that came off a
different thing that I had to use from the dollar tree and I'm just going to make a head pop out of
the burlap and then just wrap the little ends of the bow to make the little swaddling clothes for
the baby Jesus and then we're just going to glue the baby Jesus into the straw or the raffia on the
bottom of the sign and it doesn't have to be perfect it just has to look like a little head
sticking out of a bunch of cloth which I think I'm accomplishing with this let me know what you
think down below I'm going to hot glue him into place and then I think I'm just going to take
a little bit of peat moss in the front of him just to give it even more of a manger look and
just to cover up maybe some of the imperfections of the burlap baby and then I had these little
cinnamon stars I hot glued that in place I hot glued the raffia bow with wrapped a little evergreen
with some old rusty jingle bells and then I did take these scrabble letters to spell out noel
in the center of the sign and I think the word just adds a little bit of extra I don't know
interest and then on the bottom I glued these little rusty bells mostly because I wanted to
really draw attention to the baby Jesus in this sign and I thought it needed a little bit more
emphasis so I used a little bit of this evergreen sprig here on the bottom I just hot glued that
towards the bottom frame of the sign and then I just held it in place until the glue dried
I tried out some of these gold leaves again but I felt like it was a little too much
so I'm just going to keep it as is like this I liked it and I thought it accomplished what I
wanted which was to you know accentuate the baby and the noel and it looks so cute it'd be a really
cute present for a teacher or a friend I think for Christmas it's so cute and it really is a nice
quality sign
so
now you may have seen these dollar tree rounds from time to time these are a great base for a
lot of projects but they're all a great base for Christmas ornaments and that's what we're
going to be making today now I'm going to take this old sweater that I have on hand and we are
going to cover the round just by hot gluing the sweater onto our round so I just cut around
the sweater after hot gluing it onto the wooden round and then we're going to try to completely
cover the entire round with the sweater
so
once the round is completely covered we're just going to embellish our little I had this faux fur
ribbon kind of on hand whatever you have on hand would work pine cones acorns wood beads little
Christmas floral picks berries anything would work just dress these little ornaments up
to suit your taste I used this ribbon here and then I'm just going to take some pine cones little
berries and floral picks and just finish off this little ornament the last thing I did to complete
my ornament was take a little birch log and I hot glued that on top of the ornament now you can use
other things as well if you don't have little birch logs the dollar tree does sell little logs
occasionally they're pretty hard to find but sometimes you can find them already cut and those
are perfect otherwise you can just use the little wooden dowels as well and just cut off a little
portion for our ornament topper and then I'm going to take some twine and twist it around
the birch log and then that is going to be how we also hang our ornament so that extra twine
can just be tied up off the top and just make a little hanger for your ornament
now this next craft is a countdown to Christmas sign with a house full of little kids we're always
counting and counting down to Christmas is a fun activity so we're going to start by using this
wooden round from the dollar tree this one was from fall that I had left over and we did make
some round signs for fall but this one is going to be a countdown calendar so I'm going to start
by just covering the entire wood sign with some black chalkboard paint now you can use any type
of black paint really I had this one on hand so that's what I'm going with and then I printed out
the numbers 1 to 25 along with the words countdown to Christmas on vinyl on my Cricut
I can link the free svg file below if you want to do the same exact calendar you can just use
mine and I can link that again below but I just weeded through the vinyl and then we're going to
use some transfer tape and then just move this on to our now dried wooden round and I use kind
of an off-white color you could use any type of color that would show up on black
and after pulling off the vinyl I just placed it in the center of the sign and then scraped it on
to the sign and you can see here more what it looks like it says countdown to Christmas
with the numbers 1 to 25 you could always add more numbers or less if you needed but
if you want to use this exact same svg is down below again so I pulled off the transfer tape
and then just to make it even more durable I guess I'm just using some mod podge and I'm
just going to go over the letters and then the numbers 1 to 25 with a mod podge just trying to
get an even coat throughout the sign and then this we'll just wait for this to dry before
we go on to the next step okay I guess I can't wait that long so the next step that I moved on
to was just taking some corrugated paper and I'm just cutting off a square with that paper
I'm going to fold it into and make the little ornament top on the top of the sign
so I think that Dollar Tree does sell these ornament shape cutouts for Christmas so you
could also just use one that's already in the shape of an ornament I wanted to kind of make
my own with this it was easy and then it gave me I think a slightly bigger sign than the ones that
are already ornaments but anyways I just folded that square on the top of the round and then it
looks like a little ornament I thought that was really cute and then I played around with the
beads I thought about putting them on the outside of the ornament but you'll see I opted not to do
that but that would be cute as well then I just took the antiquing wax and I took some of these
beads that were already on this little chain from the Dollar Tree you could take the beads off before
doing this that would probably be better but I'm going to use that as the top of the ornament
and before I attach the beads I just wanted to embellish the ornament a little bit so I took
some evergreen wire pieces from the Dollar Tree and just wrapped those around the top of the
ornament along with a little raffia bow and then I just twisted a little wreath out of one of those
wire evergreen pieces and then attached a red bell to that wreath and that's going to be our
little wreath that goes around the numbers for the countdown but before I attach the wreath I'm going
to take those beads and just feed them through those holes where the twine was you can see this
I think added a little bit of a higher quality look to our countdown sign and it was really cute
with the antiquated looking beads and then the last step I did was I had actually the little
tops of all these ornaments that I had taken off ornaments that were damaged or broken
and I just saved them for a rainy day and it just so happened to be really a rainy day
when I was making this countdown to Christmas because these little ornament topper things
whatever they're called let me know if you know the name of them but just the tops of the ornaments
came in handy because I attached one to each of the numbers and that is how we're going to hang
our little wreath on our countdown and I wanted something that would stick out a little bit I tried
some nails and different pins and things but I just didn't like that these little ornament toppers
turned out so cute I actually love how this turned out let me know what you think but I
think that these ornament topper things fit the look of this ornament countdown just perfectly
and I really was pleased with how this turned out
so
this next craft is the names of God and one thing the Dollar Tree has had a lot of recently are
these wooden beads so we're going to use those to make ornaments and I'm also going to be using
these names of God it's like a printable I made for the different names if you're interested in
that you can get that down below I'll put a link to written instructions and then this printout
that you can use for these but we're going to take our circle cutter and just cut out all the
names and then mod podge those on to these little wooden pieces I've seen these at the Dollar Tree
and also on Amazon you can get a bigger pack if you want to do a lot of them at once and then
we're just going to take 24 inches of yarn and we're going to string the beads and the little
name onto each of the ornaments to make a full set of the names of God I started by doing several
knots on one of the the end of the yarn that's not open so the closed end and I'm just going to
do two to three knots to make a nice size knot so that it's going to catch all of our beads
and then we're going to make these ornaments so I took this bobby pin and then I just fed
the two open ends of the yarn onto it and then we're going to use that to go through our beads
so I'm going to start with the smallest bead here this is a half inch bead and then I'm going to
use the one inch bead on top of it and then I just had some of these jumbo beads now I haven't seen
these at the Dollar Tree but I think I got these actually originally at Goodwill they were just a
package on sale so but you can get these at most craft stores it's just a larger bead one and a
half inch I think and I'm just going to make another knot on the end of that bead once it's
on there and this is going to be kind of the base of our ornament now you can stain these beads or
paint these beads dye them if you want to change them and give them some more color I think looking
back I would probably have added at least a different variation in the color of the wood
of these beads but the next step then is to make a tassel so I'm going to take the yarn again
and wrap it around this little piece of cardboard and I'm going to do it 20 times
to get a nice thick tassel and then once you've gone around 15 to 20 times just cut off the yarn
hold all of the yarn on one side and then cut off the top of the yarn and then we're going to lay
this yarn down on our table and then we're going to go back and grab that yarn with the beads on
it that we had originally we're going to take the end that has the opening and we're going to wrap
that around these pieces of yarn and we're going to tie it right in the middle kind of of the yarn
and that is going to be we're going to be making the tassel here for the bottom of our ornament so
I do have a slower video on this if you want full instructions but I wanted to include this or these
ornaments in this video as well because it kind of went along with all the wood beads and different
Scandinavian feel of a lot of the crafts I'm doing today but once we have our tassel attached
the ornament I'm just going to take a piece of yarn and I'm going to tie just about half inch
down from that largest bead and I'm going to create a tassel so I just wrap the yarn around
all of the yarn and then I'm just going to tie it off and you can see then we have a little tassel
on the bottom of our ornament and you can be very flexible with the colors and the different things
you use once my yarn was all attached then I took the bobby pin again and just took two pieces of
the yarn and fed it through the little name piece here and then I'm just going to tie that
onto the ornament and then you just want to repeat this for the number of ornaments that
you want to make and again if you wanted the free printable you can just find that down below but
that's it this next craft is for all my gnome lovers out there if you like gnomes you might
like this these are cute little guys that are at the dollar tree but we're gonna change them and
make them a little bit more consistent with our neutral type Christmas decor so I'm going to take
them how they are we're just going to paint over them I started by just taking some different
colors of paint I originally took a brown acrylic paint you could use acrylic or chalk paint
anything that kind of gives you good coverage I took this brown paint and I just covered
their whole bodies and heads with the brown paint and then I actually went over them after the brown
paint had dried and I used gray on one and then I used a lighter brown on the other one
so I'm not going to show you all the different layers that I put on but pretty much I used this
brown originally and then I went back over and I did one of them like I mentioned in kind of an
off gray color you can see on the right here and then this brown color was a little bit lighter
than the original brown and then I just took some of that antiquing wax and I just put it on my paint
brush and I'm just wiping it all over the gnome and this is just going to accentuate the different
ridges and different edges of our gnome and kind of make those things stand out now if you liked
how the gnomes were originally you wouldn't have to do any of this but I didn't really think that
the colors and stuff were exactly what I wanted I wanted to look kind of like almost cement or
yeah just kind of a little bit more rustic of a look so I'm going to take this antiquing wax
and just cover this little guy all around and I really like how he's starting to look
it's a lot more of what I was going for and then once I did that I also took a little bit of
just white acrylic paint and gave him another wash with the white paint and I kind of painted
and rubbed off as I went and that is going to give him kind of this cementy look to him
here you can see when they're all finished they look really super cute just a note of caution you
don't want to sand these guys too much you can see in the guy on the right I sanded off his nose a
little bit when I was trying to distress him so you really want to use the antique wax and the
paint to get the rustic look but you don't want to do a lot of sanding on these little guys because
they will lose their shape pretty quickly but here they are they're so cute I like how they
turned out and they look a lot more neutral and like my style this next craft we're going to be
doing is a mason jar sign now I had this little one left over from fall along with these three
larger ones behind it and I'm just going to start by taking a paint scraper and a rag with water
and we're just going to remove the glue and the paper that was on the top of this jar
usually just adding water is sufficient it really takes up the glue and makes it really easy to make
these into a pretty much a blank slate and so I'm going to today I'm going to do this little one I
plan to do the larger ones as well but I'm just going to show you this little one quickly here
once I have all the paper and glue off I'm just going to paint it so I used a white acrylic paint
again you can use chalk paint or any other type of paint you have on hand just covering the entire
piece with the white paint and then once it dried I took mod podge and I'm just going to make a
snowy type mason jar you probably have seen examples of this with a real mason jar so I'm
just going to replicate that with this sign and I'm going to take some corrugated craft paper
and just cover up the metal top of the mason jar you can leave it as is I liked a slightly softer
look this year with the corrugated paper so I'm going to cover up the metal and then I'm just going
to take some twine and wrap it around the top of the mason jar just tie it off and then we're going
to take some fall or excuse me not fall but Christmas floral picks and we're just going to
stick that in towards the top of the mason jar you can do berries or greens cinnamon sticks acorns
pine cones whatever you have just kind of dress up this little mason jar now you could definitely
leave a portion of it unpainted without the snow and then just pretend that it's an actual mason
jar and you could do like a Christmas card or something on the background I just went with
really simple for this to give you an example of how you can dress these up for Christmas
I like how this turned out and then I just added a little raffia bow on the top of the
little floral arrangement here and this would be just a really cute little present to go along
with you know some Christmas treats or you know really anything and I love how it turned out it's
really cute let me know what you think down below but this was so easy to do I did add a little bit
of string on the back with some beads just to be a holder in case someone wanted to hang it you
could actually use it on the Christmas tree it would be a fairly large ornament but it would
work for that as well to make this next craft you're going to want little wood sticks or cinnamon
sticks from the dollar tree and then you're going to want some chunky yarn we're going to start by
gluing the chunky yarn on the top two inches of our little wooden stick and we're just going to
hot glue it around two sides of the stick just covering it completely holding in place until
it dries and then we're going to put a glob of hot glue towards the bottom of our yarn
and we're just going to wrap the chunky yarn around the stick and we're going to be making
these cute little yarn ornaments these are so easy to make and you can make them in a variety of ways
but I just wanted to give you an idea of how you can do it just very simply with these wood sticks
from the dollar tree and just some yarn and you could use regular yarn too you don't have to use
the chunky yarn the chunky yarn just covers really quickly and it's a lot easier to make these but
you could use the regular yarn as well and then once we hot glue the bottom in place we're just
going to take the yarn and finish it off by wrapping it around one more time and then we're
going to glue it right there and you want to be really careful with the hot glue with this craft
you could definitely just tuck the yarn in at the end and so you don't have to hot glue it again
but you could also use the little silicon fingers or gloves if you're afraid of hot gluing yourself
which definitely happens and then the last step is going to be to attach a piece of twine towards
the top of the ornament and this will be what we use to hang it on the Christmas tree you could
definitely do this part also before you do the yarn so that the twine is underneath the tree
and then I just took these little wooden stars from the dollar tree and then just
topped off my little tree with the wooden star and then you can take again some wooden beads
and just put those as little ornaments on the Christmas tree and then you have a really cute
little Christmas tree you can make a larger version of this with a larger stick and then
just put it on a little piece of scrap wood for like a base and I'll show you that
in the end but here's an example of how you can make a larger one you can just use a larger stick
and wrap more yarn and then just use this little piece of scrap wood on the bottom for a base and
stick the doll into that but these are the ornaments they're so cute and easy to make let
me know what you think made it to this point in the video thank you so much for watching I hope
you enjoyed these 10 Christmas DIYs from the dollar tree and hope you'll stay in touch for
our next videos that will be coming up soon thanks so much and have a great time crafting
