Hello and welcome to the podcast Fluidité, episode 131.
Today is a fairly short episode to simply talk to you about what I plan to do this summer,
about what my wife and I have planned, but for that, stay tuned!
Do you learn French? Fabien offers you content in common French that talks about culture, history, French geography,
but also biographies, dialogues or learning tips.
Welcome to the Fluidité podcast!
Before starting, I would like to talk to you about our VIP club.

and you also have the link to the free transcription.
So today we meet again simply to talk together, to talk about my program this summer.
So I didn't write anything, I didn't make a particular script because usually I prepare a script.
I write the whole transcription and then I read my prompter to be able to tell you about these stories, personalities, etc.
So usually I do that, but here I decided to change a little bit and improvise what I'm going to say.
I'm going to tell you a little bit about what's going on in my head about this summer's program.
Yes, because currently today is July 4th and we have been in the summer since June 21st.
By the way, I made an episode on my channel that talks about episode 130, that talks about the summer that you liked a lot.
Thank you very much, it was quite successful.
You can see it here and in the cards, in the i as info.
In any case, I would like to tell you what we plan to do with Glenn, with my wife this summer.
What we have already done, what we have started to do and then what we have also planned for July, August and a little bit for September.
So, already what we have done, we have already taken holidays because in fact I try not to take holidays in high season.
That is to say that in July and August, as I explained, these are school holidays in France, as in many countries.
And so people go on vacation very often at the end of June, beginning of July, August and a little bit in September, but not much.
So mostly in July and August.
And we prefer to go when there are not many people, when there are fewer people in any case and when there are not all the Juilletists and the Aoussiens.
We say that to talk about the holidaymakers of July and the holidaymakers of August.
We say the Juilletists and the Aoussiens.
So we prefer to avoid everyone, families who have children who are educated, they have no choice.
They have to wait for the school holidays to be able to leave for a week, two weeks, three weeks, at sea, in the mountains, etc.
Mostly at sea.
So they have no choice, but we, since we don't have children for the moment, as long as we don't have educated children, we can easily leave whenever we want.
Especially since I am an independent worker, my wife helps me too, so we are both independent workers.
And like that, we are super flexible on the days we can take, the duration, when we can take our holidays.
We choose very easily.
So that's really a good point.
And that's why we prefer to leave before or after the Juilletists and the Aoussiens.
So mostly we leave in July and a little in September.
For example, last year we left in June for our trip to NOS.
I made an explanatory video where I talk about our trip.
We left for Italy for two weeks.
And then in September of last year, so 2022, we left for Seville for three or four days.
I didn't film, I didn't make any episodes about it.
This winter we left for Strasbourg.
So that was for 2022.
And so there, early June, we left in a van.
We did our road trip, as we say, road trip, but the French pronounce road trip.
We did this road trip in a van for a week, for eight days.
So there are two videos, there are two vlogs that I made that I also put you here.
That you can go see after this video, after this content in any case.
I also put them in the description.
So we left on a van trip.
We left on the whole of the Côte d'Azur to Italy.
And we came back through Provence.
So it's the southeast of France.
And then we didn't plan a trip for September.
So I don't know if we'll leave maybe three or four days in a European city.
Where there may be fewer people.
I don't know exactly yet.
Maybe not, because that's not what we've planned for now.
So it's true that last year we went on a heads-up trip to Seville.
On a heads-up trip, that means without thinking.
We left, I think we decided that at the end of August to leave at the end of September.
So it was really an unexpected trip.
So maybe we'll decide on a heads-up trip too, at the end of August.
To go somewhere, travel.
But for now, I don't have a specific idea.
We want to stay a little quieter.
And try to travel a little more in France.
To travel a little more locally.
To see a little bit more of what there is in France.
Because it's true that before leaving, when I lived in France until six years ago.
Yes, until seven years ago, sorry.
I often traveled, but outside of France.
So I went to London, I went to Dublin, etc.
But it's true that I didn't learn to know my country.
So that's what I want to do.
And then it's more practical, it's faster.
And then it's more ecological.
Because we know that nowadays, taking the plane, it's starting to be...
It's starting to be less and less ecological.
And more and more expensive, more and more complicated.
There is more and more control, etc.
It's less and less practical, let's say.
So we would like, in any case, to do a few little tours.
Take a little walk around our house.
And that's what we're going to do, I think, during the summer.
In any case, what we're going to do, almost for sure.
It's camping.
We did it once last year.
And we're going to do it again this year.
Because we like to go in the middle of nature.
Go in contact with nature.
Mountains, rivers, etc.
And try to find little corners where there aren't many people.
And where we can go hiking.
So last year, we went to the Pyrenees.
In height, it's in the Béarnes.
I'll put a little map for you to locate yourself.
We left there just one night.
You see, we arrived, we slept at night.
We went hiking in the morning.
And I think we left again in the afternoon.
We only spent one night.
So maybe we'll spend two or three nights camping.
We bought a tent.
A decathlon tent.
The content is not sponsored by Decathlon.
But frankly, for camping, for hiking.
For everything that is outdoor sports.
Decathlon is great, it's really cheap.
It's resistant.
The products are super well designed.
So all the French love Decathlon.
I think the Belgians too.
They use a lot of Decathlon, buy a lot of Decathlon.
And even I think other European countries.
Buy a lot of Decathlon products.
Or Decathlon articles.
So we like it.
So we bought a tent.
No, but the tent, we bought it on the spot.
It's a Decathlon tent, but we bought it in the right corner.
We bought it on the spot.
And we bought the mattress too.
So a mattress that you inflate and put inside.
What else do we have as equipment?
We have a stove too.
So it's a little gas plate.
With a bottle of gas that we put.
And then we have a little plate.
To cook our food, quite simply.
We bought that.
And we tried that last year.
So we did camping in the Pyrenees.
And we would like to reiterate the experience.
Because we liked it a lot.
It's less hot in the heights.
In the mountains, it's a little less hot than in the plains.
In the Pyrenees.
So it's pretty cool.
And then there is a beautiful nature.
There are often a lot of animals.
So being surrounded by nature is good.
We live in the countryside.
We don't live in a big city.
We live in a small town.
It's not a village, but it's a small town.
It's, let's say, 15,000 inhabitants.
For me, it's a small town.
A big city is like Bordeaux.
There are about 500,000 inhabitants.
An average city can be, for example, 100,000 inhabitants.
And here we live in a small town.
There are about 15,000 inhabitants.
So it's not a lost village either.
But in fact, if we drive 10 minutes, we are in the countryside.
So it's really nice.
It's really nice.
And we still have access to a lot of services.
To a lot of things.
Because there are a lot of stores here that are available.
We have everything at hand.
And yet we are in the countryside very easily.
Whereas when we live in the city.
Sometimes you have to go after the suburbs to find the countryside.
So you have to do, for example, 30-45 minutes to go to the countryside.
While we, here, 10-15 minutes by car, we are in the countryside.
So it's really, really very comfortable.
And we don't really like big cities.
But in any case, we live in the countryside.
So even if we live in the countryside.
We like to go to the Pyrenees.
Or in the mountains, quite simply.
To get some fresh air.
This pure mountain air that everyone loves.
So maybe we'll do that.
We'll do camping, that's for sure.
I don't know how many times.
Once, that's for sure.
Then maybe two or three.
It depends on what we're going to do next.
And what we can also do near our house.
It's canoeing, for example.
We tried to do it once a few days ago.
A week or ten days ago.
So there's a canal that doesn't go far.
There is also the Garonne.
So if we also do 10 minutes, 15 minutes by car.
We can easily do canoeing, for example.
So that's a great activity.
In fact, there is a place.
Where they rent canoes.
And other articles.
Other nautical equipment.
Like, for example, very small boats without a license.
So we're going to try to do that too.
Maybe we'll rent a very small boat without a license.
There are small electric boats.
That make, for example, five or six seats.
And that we can drive on the canal without a license.
So that's really cool.
So we can also try that in the countryside.
There is a lake that is half an hour from here.
And there is a beach, in the end.
So it's not the ocean or the Mediterranean, of course.
It's not the Azure coast.
But there are a lot less people.
And it's a lake where they set up a beach.
With, for example, a bar.
A small restaurant.
To eat snacks or things like that.
So it's pretty cool.
We went to see it a month and a half ago.
Just out of curiosity.
And I think this summer we might go there a few times.
Because it's not far from home.
20 minutes and a half, I think.
20 minutes to go and 20 minutes back.
If my memory is good.
But hey, it's not far.
We can go there easily.
There are not many traffic jams to go there.
Because it's the countryside.
So we can do that too.
We can go to the beach very easily.
It's not the big beaches of the Azure coast.
But to cool down, it's enough.
And then also around our house.
There are a lot of things to see.
There are a lot of small villages to visit.
That's what we did in the fall.
And in winter too.
Sometimes we took the car.
And we made a journey of an hour, half an hour.
To visit a castle, a small village.
There are really a lot of things to see.
So maybe we'll do this kind of trip.
And I don't think there will be a lot of people.
We can go back to Saint-Emilion.
For an afternoon, for example.
It can be cool too.
There are this kind of things to do.
But in any case, we didn't plan big holidays.
Like families, for example, who have children.
They take big holidays.
And we, it's not what we planned.
So we're going to move on weekends, for example.
We're going to make short-term stays.
But we won't take, for example, a week or two of holidays.
Because we already took our holidays in early June.
I also think we're going to invite friends.
Invite friends to see each other.
I have friends who live in Bordeaux.
We also have friends who live near Arcachon.
On the Arcachon Basin.
A friend who also lives in the Basque Country, in Bayonne.
So either we go see them, or we invite them here at home.
In any case, for now, we have been living in a house since September.
And we plan to move.
We are looking to move.
Because in this house, it was temporary since September.
There is only one room.
Which is, as I had already shown.
But it's a room and it's my office at the same time.
It's our room and my office at the same time.
And we're going to need three rooms.
So that's what we're looking for.
And it's quite complicated because there are a lot of requests.
There are a lot of people who want to rent houses in the countryside.
Because now people can do teleworking.
It was less possible before the pandemic.
And now, since the pandemic is over.
People realize that they can live more easily in the countryside.
And telework for their business.
And they don't have to live in the city.
So there are more and more people who want to go back to the countryside.
Who want to go live in the countryside.
Because the trend was the opposite until now.
That is to say that for several decades.
People will mostly live in the city.
And leave the countryside.
This is what we call the rural exodus.
And there, the trend is changing.
So it's not completely reversed.
But there is a trend that makes people want to live in the countryside more and more.
Like us, actually.
Because we don't need to live in the city.
Since I do everything from home.
So I also telework in a way.
I do everything online.
And people want to live in the countryside more and more.
Far from the cities.
With more space.
More quiet.
So there are a lot of requests.
Around Marmande.
There are a lot of people who want to come and settle here.
The Lotte-Garonne.
The department is a really nice place.
People are adorable.
So it's very charming around here.
That's why we want to stay there too.
So there are a lot of competitions.
A lot of requests.
And you have to go very quickly.
As soon as there is a house.
As soon as there is an announcement and a house available.
You have to rush on it.
Throw yourself on it.
To ask for a visit, etc.
And the owners ask for a lot of things.
They are quite demanding.
Since they have a lot of requests.
So they filter a lot.
And it's quite complicated.
So we may have good news.
Since we are going to visit a house on Thursday.
We have already visited two or three.
And for the moment we have not had the chance to be accepted.
But we hope we will be accepted on Thursday.
When I film this video, it's Tuesday.
So it's the day after tomorrow.
And we cross our fingers as we say.
So if we are accepted for this house.
If we sign for this house.
We sign the bail.
The rental contract.
It's called a bail in French.
We will have to move in August.
In the course of August.
Ok?
It means that.
So that's why we can't move too far.
Since we are going to move in a short time.
If it's not this house.
It may be another one.
A little later.
So we know that we are going to move in a short time.
So we need to be available.
And to be next to our current house.
To be able to move.
So we also have this project.
To move in a bigger house.
With more rooms.
And we hope it will be done.
So this summer I will continue to work.
I will continue to create content.
For you French learners.
On my YouTube channel.
And of course on the podcast.
So it will be at the pace of once a week.
As usual.
There will be no interruptions.
That's it for my summer program.
And you tell me.
What did you plan to do for this summer?
Did you plan to move?
To travel?
To go see loved ones?
