Unfortunately, I often don't have the experience of being able to speak English.
Hello everyone! I'm Nishizawa Roy, an English doctor.
On this channel, I teach you how to study English in an unconventional way that makes it easy to change difficult English.
Roy-san, there are so many videos of you speaking English on YouTube.
For example, let's say there are 30 super-recommended English phrases here.
I have a question for you, Tony. Do you think all 30 phrases are in line with what you want to say?
No, I don't think they're all in line with what I want to say.
That's right. It's impossible to have all the phrases in line with what you want to say.
If you're not good at it, you might end up saying things you don't want to say.
Do you think you'll be able to improve your English by memorizing phrases and English sentences that you don't want to say?
Do you think you'll be able to enjoy learning English in the first place?
I think many people have experience in memorizing phrases.
It's a way to learn phrases to be able to speak English because you want to be able to speak English.
Actually, I used to do it when I was a college student.
I bought a lot of phrases and memorized them.
For example, everyday phrases that natives use a lot, or English conversation phrases that express feelings.
It's really nostalgic, but there's one phrase that I remember a lot.
What is it?
After taking a bath, I drink a cold beer and say,
I'll come back in the summer.
Wow, I'd like to say that.
I thought the phrase that was introduced there was a great way to express your feelings.
But I realized later that I didn't know when I could use it.
That's true.
Speaking English after taking a bath means that you're going to the bath with a foreigner.
There's a setting like that.
I think this is a very high hurdle.
Yes, it's a high hurdle.
So I've never used the phrase I remembered.
Oh, that's too bad.
So it's okay to remember phrases.
What happens when you remember them?
I rarely use it, or I forget it because I don't use it often.
And it doesn't apply.
To be clear, I've never met anyone who has learned a lot of English conversation phrases and is able to speak them.
If you can speak to some extent, you can suppress English conversation phrases to increase the expression.
That's how it grows.
Even if you can't speak at all, even if you remember English conversation phrases,
Unfortunately, it doesn't affect you to be able to speak.
I think it's my experience.
So what should I do?
This time, I'd like to share with you some learning tips that are not limited to English conversation phrases, but also common to English practice.
1. There is a pitfall that serious learners fall into.
What is the problem with that behavior?
It's trying to remember the English sentence given to you as it is and use it.
I see.
It's a fundamental question in the first place.
Do you really want to use that phrase?
You need to think about this.
This is a big problem for English learners.
There are a lot of people who are trying to remember phrases that they don't want to say.
But the important thing for English to improve is that you should be able to say what you want to say in English.
If you express what you want to say, your consciousness will feel weak.
There are many English books.
The example sentences and vocabulary in the book are the English sentences that someone thought up.
For example, there are books and textbooks that say that you can speak if you remember this much, such as phrases that native speakers often use.
Do you really want to say that?
This is an important question.
Do you feel motivated or not when you practice phrases that you want to say?
I feel more motivated.
You need to devise such a way.
For example, in the English textbook, you can say,
I like volleyball.
Please put this in English.
Tony, please.
I like volleyball.
It's easy to say, isn't it?
Yes.
But do you really like volleyball?
I don't like it.
You can't help it if you say I like volleyball to someone you don't like.
So if it's different from what you want to say, it's important to arrange it.
The basis of language learning is imitating.
The root of the word 学ぶ is マネぶ.
So you learn by imitating.
That's why example sentences are important.
However, it is often difficult to use the example sentence in its entirety.
That's why it's important to arrange it in the way you want to say it.
You borrow an example sentence that you can use,
and put it in the way you want to say it.
It's important to have that kind of arrangement.
I see.
People who can speak English are learning by doing that kind of arrangement.
So I'd like to show you how to arrange it.
For example, as an expression,
There's something called feel like ING.
It means to feel.
You can express what you want to do with feel like ING.
You can say, for example,
I feel like playing tennis today.
The traditional way to do it is to repeat it as it is.
Let's try it together.
Okay, everyone, please repeat after me.
I feel like playing tennis today.
Good. Okay, one more time.
I feel like playing tennis today.
This is the traditional way to learn English.
How about you, Tony?
Do you want to play tennis today?
No, I don't want to play tennis today.
I'm not interested in tennis at all.
So it's not good to just say it in English.
So it's important to use feel like ING well and arrange it to what you want to say.
So first of all, I'd like you to think about it in Japanese.
What do you want to do today?
What do you feel like doing?
Think about that a little bit.
How is it? What do you want to do?
How do I feel?
I want to drink cold cola now.
Oh, that's good.
Then please say it in English.
I feel like drinking a cold cola now.
Oh, that's good.
I can understand it perfectly.
Thank you.
By the way, if it were me, it would be like this.
I feel like drinking cold beer after this shooting.
I want to drink cold beer after this shooting.
You want to drink beer, don't you?
Yes.
Well, like this, arrange the English sentence freely to the shape you want to say.
Then this English sentence will be what you want to say.
If it's the English sentence or phrase you want to say, you'll be motivated to remember it.
It's also fun to practice.
That's the kind of energy that should come out.
Even if you make a mistake, don't try to memorize the whole English sentence or phrase that someone made.
I hope you enjoy practicing conversation.
Thank you for today.
I heard that if you don't have a chance to use a phrase, you'll forget it right away.
I've forgotten a lot of phrases, too.
I want to arrange the phrases and memorize them so that I can say what I really want to say.
Thank you for watching the video today.

This time, it was a little light content, but I would be happy if you could write and share the English sentences and phrases that you arranged in the comments section.
See you in the next video.
