In this video, we are going to talk about turmeric, a member of the ginger family, which has shown significant effects as an herbal remedy for eye health.
Did you know that about 75% of cases of partial or total vision loss can be avoided and even reversed?
This statement announced by the WHO (World Health Organization) raises a warning about how what we can do to prevent blindness.
Blindness is nothing more than a condition characterized by the loss of your ability to see, which may be transient when vision loss only occurs for a certain amount of time.
Reversible types of blindness can have numerous causes like cataracts, opacity of the cornea, trachoma and even migraines.
After the age of fifty, the main cause of vision loss is degeneration of the macula, a small area located in the central portion of our retina, which allows us to see details, read texts and recognize faces.
That said, what can we do to ensure that our eyes stay healthy?
One habit that greatly impairs our eyesight is the continuous exposure to screens.
Another way to prevent these eye problems is by using an ingredient that you’ve probably used to season your food. We’re talking about turmeric or, more specifically, its active component curcumin.

That said, what can we do to ensure that our eyes stay healthy?
One habit that greatly impairs our eyesight is the continuous exposure to screens.
At least that's what the researchers say at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid,
where they published a report that aimed to analyze the impact the use of light-emitting
devices, such as cell phones and computers, can have on our eyes.
When our eyes are exposed to this type of light, they react by producing toxic substances
that can damage our photosensitive cells or photoreceptors.
This type of cell, when damaged, can cause the development of macular degeneration in
an accelerated fashion, and, in the worst cases, a loss of vision in the central area
of the eye.
One way to reduce this exposure is, of course, avoiding these screens.
If this isn't possible, you can wear some types of glasses with a lens that filter out
the most harmful light.
Some experts recommend using the 20-20-20 technique, which consists of staring at a
spot 6 feet away from your screen for 20 seconds every 20 minutes of work.
Another way to prevent these eye problems is by using an ingredient that you've probably
used to season your food.
We're talking about turmeric, or, more specifically, its active component, curcumin.
Some studies performed with this plant have already proven that it can be extremely beneficial
to our eyes.
This plant is great at treating various eye conditions, such as conjunctivitis, keratitis,
uveitis, cataracts, floaters, and retinopathies, such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy,
and even glaucoma.
It works so well due to its antioxidants, which are able to reduce the oxidative stress
that causes most of these diseases.
Turmeric also contains nutrients that are important for our eye health and can also
reduce our blood pressure, which can cause eye strain when it's too high.
This plant even has the incredible ability of going directly through our veins into our
retina, acting directly on the rods and cones inside our eyes.
