In celebration of the 112th birthday of the Republic of China,
last weekend, the Asian-Taiwanese Joint Council held a flag-raising ceremony
at the Barnes Park in Monterey Park, South California.
At around 9.30 a.m.,
the Association of South California State Universities
escorted the U.S. flag and the Republic of China flag into the venue
to open the curtain for the flag-raising ceremony.
It was followed by dozens of groups, such as the North American Women's Association of South California,
the Republic of China Retired Soldiers' Association, etc.
As the flag-raising ceremony of the Republic of China in Monterey Park went on,
the flag of the Republic of China was raised.
The people were excited to see the flag in their hands.
Taiwan is a free and democratic country.
We, the people of the Republic of China,
have a free and democratic system in Taiwan.
Our economy is very prosperous,
technology is developed,
and the people live and work in peace.
I believe that this is the result of the joint efforts of the people.
I hope that you, my fellow countrymen,
will continue to speak up for our country in the United States,
together with the United States,
to maintain the prosperity and peace of the world.
Three aircraft carrying the flag of the Republic of China
flew over the ceremony.
The lively atmosphere reached its peak.
The people shouted,
Long live the Republic of China!
Since the founding of the Republic of China,
we have known from history
that we have always accepted various challenges,
including the crisis in the Taiwan Strait.
But I believe that with the joint efforts of the people of Taiwan,
we will be able to continue
to maintain the democratic and free system of the Republic of China in Taiwan,
and the economic development of the Republic of China in Taiwan.
Democracy in Taiwan will never be taken away from us.
I believe that this is what Taiwan has shown in the Republic of China.
Of course, the unwavering determination of the Republic of China in Taiwan
is also a beacon for the Chinese people around the world to aspire to democracy and freedom.
We are really very moved.
We also wish the Republic of China good fortune, prosperity and peace.
On that day, there was also a group of North Korean female alumni,
the South California Alumni Association of Jianguo Middle School
and the Taiwan University Alumni Association,
to show their sincere congratulations on the National Day of the Republic of China with a wonderful performance.
