Hello everyone, today I'm going to show you how to knit a dragon tail scarf or scarf.
I used a cotton wool for my original scarf.
I'll put the material information in the description box below.
Today I'm going to show you how to knit a cotton wool.
Of course you can use any wool you like.
I recommend a nice cotton wool and the right needle thickness.
The fabric is knitted in the basic pattern in gray on the right and has a nice little hole pattern.
There are only 12 rows that repeat.
In the 12th row, 6 stitches are chained.
Let's get started.
We start with a slip stitch of 6 stitches.
If you don't know how to do a slip stitch, I'll link a video about it below.
I go into my thumb loop and do a total of 6 stitches.
That was the first one.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
I did 6 stitches.
Now, I'm going to do a row of preparatory stitches.
I start with a slip stitch.
For the edge stitch, I take the yarn to the front and do a decrease.
After the edge stitch, I do a double crochet.
I insert my hook into the next stitch and knit one stitch to the right.
I don't do a decrease yet.
I insert my hook from behind and knit one stitch to the right.
I did one stitch twice.
Now, I do a double crochet.
I insert my hook into the next stitch and knit one stitch to the right.
I insert my hook again and knit one stitch to the right.
I did one stitch out of two stitches.
I knit the last stitch to the right.
And I knit the last stitch to the right.
That was row number 1.
Now, we are going to do row number 2.
It is very easy.
Here, you knit your edge stitch.
I decrease the first stitch.
And then you knit all stitches to the right until the last edge stitch.
I insert my hook into the next stitch and knit one stitch to the right.
And I knit the last stitch to the right.
Now, we are going to do row number 3.
It is a decrease again.
The odd numbers are going to be our decreases in the future.
We are going to increase.
The odd numbers are going to be our decreases in the future.
Now, we are going to do row number 3.
It is going to work according to the same principle.
We knit our edge stitch again.
We decrease.
After the edge stitch, this stitch is going to be doubled.
I insert my hook into the next stitch and knit one stitch to the right.
And then the next stitch is going to be doubled.
And we knit the remaining stitches to the right.
And I knit the last stitch to the right.
That was row number 3.
Now, we are going to do row number 4.
It is a decrease again.
The odd numbers are going to be our decreases in the future.
At the beginning you can't see much.
The pattern is developing.
I show you row number 4 again.
Edge stitch.
And here we knit all stitches to the right.
This means that we knit all stitches to the right.
We are going to do this in every row, except for the hole pattern.
I will show you that later.
And the edge stitch to the right.
And so on.
Now, we are going to do row number 5.
It is going to be an increase again.
I show you the beginning again.
In every row with odd numbers, we are going to do an increase.
At the beginning, we are going to do the second and the fourth stitch.
First, you knit your edge stitch.
Then you knit one stitch to the right.
And then you knit one stitch to the right.
We are going to do this in every row.
After the increase, you knit the next stitch to the right.
And then you knit one stitch to the right.
And then you knit the remaining stitches to the right.
And so on.
Row number 6 is going to be a decrease again.
We are going to knit only the edge stitches.
Row number 7 is going to be an increase again.
We knit one stitch to the left, knit one stitch to the right, and so on...
Row number 8 is going to be an increase again.
Row number 9 is going to be an increase again.
Row number 10 is going to be an increase again.
And row number 11 is going to be an increase again.
And now you are going to knit this until the 11th row, as I showed you before, and then we will see each other again.
So, I am done with my 11th row.
This was a row where I started.
And now you can see it a little bit.
On the side, where I always take, there will be a slant, which will later form the typical shape of our dragon tail scarf.
Now comes row number 12.
And in every 12th row we chain stitches to get this typical dragon tail shape.
This is also very easy to do.
Here I knit my edge stitch, as usual.
And now I knit one stitch to the right.
And then I pull the bottom stitch over the top stitch.
So I knit one stitch over the top stitch.
I chained one.
Then I knit another stitch to the right.
And then I pull the bottom stitch over the top stitch again.
So this is pretty easy.
I chained two.
Knit one stitch to the right again.
Pull the bottom stitch over.
I chained three.
One on the right.
pull through,
yarn over,
pull through 4 stitches,
yarn over,
pull through 5 stitches,
yarn over,
pull through 1 stitch,
yarn over,
pull through 6 stitches.
So you simply knit the remaining stitches of row 12.
Now, we are going to start with row 1, which is going to be a hole pattern row.
Row 1 is going to be our hole pattern row, and then we are going to repeat row 1-12 over and over again.
I am going to show you how to do this in a written pattern.
So, row 1 is going to be our hole pattern row.
And this is how you do it.
Here, you are going to do your edge stitches as well.
And now, you are going to do a slip stitch and two stitches together on the right side.
And this is going to be repeated over and over again.
You are going to do a slip stitch by going behind the yarn with your needle,
so that the yarn is going from the front to the back over the needle.
And we are going to do two stitches together on the right side.
To do this, I go into the bottom stitch of my next two stitches and into the top stitch of my next two stitches.
So that both stitches are on top of each other and I am going to do a slip stitch on the right side.
Because of the slip stitch, I increased one stitch.
And because I am going to do the next two stitches together, I decreased one stitch.
So, our number of stitches stays the same.
And now, we are going to do a slip stitch on the right side.
And this is how you are going to do your hole pattern.
And now, you are going to do a slip stitch and two stitches together on the right side.
If this is too tight for you, you can go into the top stitch of your next stitch and widen it a little bit.
This way it is easier to get into the hole and to do a slip stitch on the right side.
And now, you are going to repeat this until the end of the row.
Slip stitch, two stitches together on the right side.
And at the end, you are going to do a slip stitch on the right side.
This was row number one.
This is the hole pattern row.
Now, we are going to turn our work.
And row number two is a reverse row.
Here, we are going to do a slip stitch on the right side.
But we have to knit the slip stitches on the right side.
So I just knit everything on the right side
For example, here is a slip stitch.
And we knit it on the right side.
So I just knit the right stitches.
And by knitting the slip stitches on the right side, I am going to have another pattern.
I have two stitches left here.
And the last stitch on the right.
Now you can see it quite easily.
Because we have formed the curves and knitted them, we get a little hole pattern here.
We will get to that later.
Row number 3 is as usual a decrease row, which I will show you again.
In this row we knit one stitch on the right, one stitch on the left and one stitch on the right.
And knit the remaining stitches on the right.
Now we come to row number 4.
This is a decrease row.
And in this row we knit only the edge stitches and all stitches on the right.
Row 5 is a decrease row, just like the one I just showed you.
In this row you knit the edge stitches, one stitch on the right, one stitch on the left and one stitch on the right.
I will show you this in a written pattern.
I will put the pattern in the video description, so you can check it out if you have the time.
I hope you can read it.
It is always the same pattern, so you would just continue knitting like this.
We were at row 3, now we are at row 4.
Row 5 is a decrease row, row 6 is a decrease row, where you knit all stitches on the right.
Row 7 is a decrease row, so we are at the decrease again.
And as I said before, we always start decreasing in the second and fourth stitch.
I have shown you this before.
An odd number of rows means a decrease row, so we are at the increase row, where we double the second and fourth stitch.
And an even number of rows means a decrease row.
And so on.
Row 11 is a decrease row.
And row 12 is always a decrease row.
I already showed you this.
You knit an edge stitch, then decrease 6 stitches and knit the remaining stitches on the right.
Then we start again with the hole pattern row, where you knit an edge stitch,
and then you always knit one decrease and two stitches on the right together until you reach the edge stitch.
Row 2 is a decrease row, where you knit all stitches on the right.
In this case you also knit the decreases on the right.
And then we start from the beginning.
Row 3 is a decrease row.
Here we double the first stitch.
Row 4 is a decrease row.
And so on.
And I will show you this now.
I already knitted this with my original yarn.
I will show you how this pattern develops.
This is my original yarn.
I am not able to show you the whole pattern, because it is already quite big.
I will show you the whole pattern later.
This is where I started.
We just knitted this.
And then this is where it develops.
Because we always decrease in every 12th stitch, we get these little spikes here.
Later we are going to tighten and wash the whole cloth.
And then the spikes will be more visible.
This is how it looks like.
It is a very beautiful and easy pattern.
It gets wider and wider.
And you can easily see, where the decrease row is.
The decrease row is always where our spikes are.
And the increase row is this smooth side.
Because here we always tighten stitches.
And here we decrease stitches.
And because we always increase 2 stitches in every decrease row,
we decrease 10 stitches from row 1 to 12.
And in the 12th row we decrease 6 stitches.
10 minus 6 equals 4.
So the cloth gets wider.
And you can knit this until you reach your desired length.
I will do this now and then I will show you how to finish the cloth.
So, I reached my desired length of the cloth.
And my bobble is almost finished.
This is enough for me.
And make sure, that you have enough bobble left.
I will show you now, how to finish the cloth.
And later, because this does not fit on the picture,
I will show you the whole scarf in full length and width.
Finishing is not a witchcraft.
I recommend an elastic decrease method.
It looks like this.
Here we have our edge stitch.
I decrease it again.
By the way, this was row 12, where we always decreased.
But instead of these 6 stitches, I decrease all stitches.
And now you can see, that in the 12th row we decrease.
I hope you can still see it, because the yarn is quite dark now.
I decrease the first stitch.
I knit the next stitch to the right.
And then I insert my hook into the first stitch.
And I decrease it.
This creates a more elastic edge for later.
I will show you again.
Then I knit a stitch to the right.
Then you have your two stitches.
And I insert my hook into both stitches.
And I decrease it to the right.
Then I knit a stitch to the right.
I insert my hook into both stitches.
And I decrease it.
Again.
I knit a stitch to the right.
I insert my hook into both stitches.
And I decrease it.
And you do this until the last stitch.
Now I am at my last two stitches.
We do them together.
I decrease it.
And here we are at the last one.
I knit a stitch to the right.
I insert my hook into both stitches.
And I decrease it.
Like this.
Now you can cut the yarn.
And at the end I make the stitch a bit bigger.
And then I pull the yarn through with my fingers.
And secure it.
The only thing you have to do now is to use a sewing needle
to sew the yarn ends to the sides.
And then I will show you how the whole thing looks like.
And this is how the whole thing looks like.
After I washed it and stretched it,
the hole pattern and the stitches come to life much better.
You can see the color gradient.
It is also very beautiful.
It gets darker and darker.
And I think I chained about 180 stitches at the end.
As you can see, this is a really beautiful scarf.
I hope you enjoyed the video.
I wish you a lot of fun doing this.
See you soon. Your Maschinenmarie.
