FAST WAY to Cut Pallets Apart - Deconstructing Pallets

I have a business called BentonArt. I create art and furniture using pallet wood. I have used multiple methods to deconstruct pallets and this is by far the easiest way.
In this video, I'm going to show you how to safely cut apart pallets while saving the board and the nails.
I use a Sawzall. This particular model is a rigid Sawzall and a Diablo Demolition Blade.
I don't use the blades that are labeled for cutting through nail-embedded wood because the blades on those are too fine
and they wear out quickly.
This is a little better view of the Sawzall that I use. It's a rigid Fuego model
and the Demolition Blade. You'll notice that I'm wearing a respirator to prevent me from inhaling all the sawdust
that comes off whenever I'm cutting the boards or cutting through the nails. I also wear eye protection.
I have a pair of Dewalt glasses
or goggles that I wear that protect my eyes from any objects that might fly off as well.
I prefer to cut apart pallets outside because it does make a big mess.
You'll notice that I'm taking the blade and running it behind the face boards on the pallet, just cutting through the nails.
I'm trying not to cut any of the wood
so that I don't leave scars in it.
I cut down both of the sides first, cutting through all the nails, and then I go back to cut through the middle section.
You'll see that I angle the Sawzall down so that I can get it between the boards and
cut the nails just like I did on the sides, and I work my way from the top to the bottom.
Cutting the nails in the center of the board is definitely the hardest part of dissembling a pallet.
As you work, make sure you clear the debris and cut boards away from your cord if you have a corded
saw, and always remember you are using a power tool with the capability of inching yourself very badly.
Keep the saw blades away from your legs. You notice I keep my legs spread apart where if I did
swing the saw that it would go between my legs. I also keep my hand cupped under the
handle of the saw to prevent it from shooting down between my legs very easily.
Once I have all the boards removed from the front of the pallet, I flip it over and remove the back braces.
Using the same method, I cut down the sides and then I cut the center boards off.
Be careful as you cut this side of the pallet because once the board has all the nails removed, it's obviously going to fall.
You have to be very quick to catch it or put something next to it to catch the board.
You'll see here in the video that I make a pretty nice catch with this board as it spins and falls away.
This is a larger than average pallet,
so you'll see that I was able to take it apart in less than four minutes.
