Hello and welcome to a new Vigant video.
Actually, I promised you that I would show you my tent, my furniture, my equipment for the camp,
because I wanted to take advantage of the nice weather.
And we've had this picture for three weeks.
It's no fun setting up a tent, even if it's actually weatherproof,
I think I'll just wait a little longer.
Of course, I don't want to keep you waiting that long.
And that's why I thought I'd make a short video where I'd like to ask you a few questions.
Because last week, I found an interesting comment under one of my videos.
A Hannes Heinz says,
No one who is floating for the Middle Ages today would like to have lived in that time. Guaranteed.
Whether he just wanted to give it as a statement or as a provocation,
or in general, what he has against the floating in the Middle Ages, I don't know.
But when I was reading it, I thought it was worth thinking about whether that was true.
Would I really want to live in the Middle Ages?
And my answer was, well, maybe.
The main problem from today's point of view was certainly the lack of health care.
Otherwise, it depends, I would say.
But there were certainly people who led an interesting life to some extent, even in today's standards.
Well, as I said, the main problem is medical care.
When I think back, I would probably have died in the Middle Ages at the age of nine.
Because I had a lymphoma.
And whether I would have survived the operation in the Middle Ages, I don't know.
Maybe I would have been one of the many, many children who did not even reach the tenth year of life.
Or, with many prayers and an adalas and a white cuckoo,
I would have survived the whole thing and would have had other health problems.
Especially the dental health.
So, if you read that, even nobles, even kings, sometimes had terrible toothache.
And therefore, yes, many women died in childbirth.
Other people just had sepsis, i.e. a blood poisoning.
This still happens today, but in a much smaller extent.
So, yes, especially health-wise, it would probably have gone much worse.
But not only that.
The self-determination, the freedom to simply decide what you want,
is today at a much larger scale.
Also the co-determination, democratic rights, in the sense that they did not exist in the Middle Ages.
And so only a very small minority was actually allowed to use these freedoms for themselves.
And even if I belonged to a privileged aristocracy or was a rich merchant,
I had completely different constraints.
So, what do you think about that?
Do you think, oh, we are all adaptable, I would have survived that too,
but I wouldn't have cared, as long as I was allowed to pursue my hobby in the wild.
Or do you say, well, I don't want to live without the technology that I now know,
or the comforts, that would have been too much for me.
I would be very interested.
What do you think?
My very personal opinion.
I think a time machine is great.
Play mice for two weeks and then be allowed to go back.
That would be it, wouldn't it?
Or maybe four weeks.
And then say, oh, now I'm going to take a warm shower first, enjoy myself at home.
Yes, so that would be it, of course, if we had the opportunities.
But spend your whole life there?
It would definitely be tough, demanding and with all kinds of constraints that don't exist today.
That's my opinion.
Still, I'm really interested.
What do you think?
Please write it in the comments or on Instagram or Facebook.
Or just send me an email.
As usual, I'll show you everything.
And as usual, of course, I'm also waiting for comments and ideas from you.
Things that I don't even think about right now.
So I would really appreciate it.
And from there until then.
Of course, we will also evaluate and discuss this.
So until then and now first of all, thank you very much for watching and bye.
