Snakes are amongst the scariest animals on the planet.
These creepy, crawly suckers just find ways to invade people's spaces, and they tend
to wreak havoc wherever they go.
That all being said, nature can indeed be pretty funny.
And while it's true that snakes are fearsome and ruthless, there are times when they tend
to meet their match.
From large animals that absolutely rocked them, to even smaller ones that displayed
enormous courage.
Join us as we have a look at 20 times snakes messed with the wrong opponent.
Secretary Bird stomps on a helpless snake.
The secretary bird is a unique bird that primarily inhabits sub-Saharan Africa.
Standing over 4 feet tall and with an incredibly slender body, these guys are definitely unique.
Now, with a name like the secretary bird, you would think that these birds are peaceful
and calm.
But they can be quite aggressive, and in the case of this bird, let's just say it didn't
take too lightly to see a snake in its yard.
Apparently the clip would be taken at an animal conservatory with a secretary bird that was
especially notorious for being aggressive.
The moment it saw the snake in front of it, it activated those strong feet and immediately
crushed the little guy's bones.
Secretary birds are popularly known for scaring the bejesus out of snakes, and I think it's
safe to say that this one lived up to its reputation.
Mother Squirrel Protects Her Babies From A Cobra
Squirrels may seem fragile and helpless, but these guys actually have a bit of aggression
to them.
And as you can imagine, this aggression really comes out when they or other squirrels they
care about become threatened.
In this next clip, we see what happens when a mother squirrel finds that a king cobra
is looking to take her babies.
The two begin with a vicious standoff before finally making contact.
For some reason, it appeared that the cobra saw the fight in the squirrel and just decided
not to mess with it.
Can you see that look?
It was like the squirrel just kept saying, come at me, bro.
Dino Crushes Rattlesnake
A few years ago, a nature-focused YouTube channel was making a documentary on the monitor
lizard when they caught a confrontation between it and a rattlesnake.
Now, monitor lizards tend to keep to themselves mostly, but they're also incredibly resilient
animals, and some people even believe that they are immune to some forms of snake venom.
So when this lizard, named Dino, saw the rattlesnake trying to slither away, he decided that he
wanted a piece of that action.
The confrontation ended pretty much as soon
as it began.
Dino, with his powerful jaws, immediately snaps the rattlesnake.
It's good night for that snake, for sure.
Slender Mongoose Knocks Black Mamba
A few years back, a forest explorer was out on an expedition when he came across an interesting
encounter.
A slender mongoose ran into the formidable black mamba, and they had what could only
be described as a battle for the ages.
The fight begins with the snake and the mongoose feeling each other out for a hot minute, and
then it's time to throw down.
It was pretty obvious that the mamba knew it was in trouble, but it kept up with the
fight regardless, and up until it couldn't do it anymore.
With a swift strike, the mongoose killed the mamba and had it for lunch.
Chameleon Holds Its Own Against A Mamba It looks as though it's not a lucky day for
any of the mambas, now is it?
For our next video, we go to Kruger National Park in South Africa, where a battle of the
reptiles took place back in 2011 between a chameleon and a mamba.
Normally, chameleons should not be much of a match for snakes, but this guy here showed
an impressive amount of heart, and by the time it faced off against the snake, it was
actually able to stand its ground.
Now I bet the snake thought it'd get a free meal in this one, but this wasn't its day.
After an intense stare down, it then decides to slither away.
Python Gets A Bed Of Thorns Hedgehogs are relatively peaceful animals,
but whenever a hedgehog sees danger coming its way, it immediately rolls into its shell
and lets the outer thorns on the shell do the talking.
In this next clip, we see a unique moment when a python stalked a hedgehog, thinking
that it had gotten its next meal, but boy was it wrong.
As soon as the hedgehog saw the python, it went into defense mode, and it immediately
used its thorns as a defense mechanism to both protect itself and to launch an offensive
against the snake.
With enough space between it and its predator, the hedgehog was able to make a run for it
and then move into safety.
Seagull Catches A Sea Snake This is one of those rare occurrences when
a snake is actually the prey and not the predator.
In the South China Sea, the white-bellied sea eagle is one of the most formidable predators,
and a few years ago, camera footage would catch a moment when this Amazon hunter caught
a sea snake that appeared to swim ashore for oxygen.
This clip shows just how formidable these eagles can be.
For snakes lurking under the waves, there's always an eagle or two that's ready to pounce.
Cane Toad Fights Off A Water Python In the waters of Australia, pretty much any
animal that snoozes ends up as prey.
As such, everyone's always on their tail and looking to ensure that they don't end up being
eaten.
Back in 2021, this clip made the rounds on the internet, showing the moment an Australian
water python found what it thought would be easy prey while hunting, a rare cane toad.
The problem, however, was that this toad was just a bit too big for the snake to swallow
all at once, and to make things even worse, the toad had a secret weapon.
Its skin secretes a deadly hallucinogen that is immediately released in the event of danger.
At this point, the snake realized that it couldn't go on, and looking to preserve itself,
it released the toad from its grip and then made a run for it.
Meerkat Family Evades Cobra Generally, meerkats are pretty chill animals.
They don't really pose a threat to anyone else in the animal kingdom, and they're known
to move in packs.
Here, we see a moment when a pack of meerkats ran into an unlikely foe in the form of a
king cobra.
The meerkats had been hunting all day and were looking to get to some shade as the sun
had become way too hot, but on their way, they ran into the cobra, which had been lying
in wait and hoping to catch its next meal.
The cobra, sensing an opportunity, immediately lunged at one of the younger meerkats.
This effectively cut the meerkat off from the pack and then left it isolated.
Unfortunately for the young cat, its pack had not gone too far, and as soon as they
heard its call, they then raced in to help.
With the number's advantage, the meerkats were able to band together and go toe-to-toe
with the cape cobra.
The snake itself was aware of its disadvantage, and while it had put up a fight, it knew there
was no way to win this one.
Better to live and fight another day, I suppose.
Mother Rabbit Fends Off A Snake Rabbits are generally amongst a snake's favorite
food.
They're full of meat and generally helpless, so when a snake sees one of them, it's pretty
easy to think about how that conflict is going to go.
But in this situation, it appears that this snake had made a huge mistake, going after
a baby rabbit.
The snake had already had the baby rabbit in its reach and was squeezing the life out
of it, but then in comes its mother to even out the
odds and give the snake a proper mammal beatdown.
The fight was a pretty gruesome one, but in the end, the mother rabbit ended up getting
the win and even chasing the snake out of her yard.
That'll teach it not to mess with another animal's kid, that's for sure.
Mother Kitten Fights Off A Python
Generally, cats can be pretty feisty, and when you throw a predator trying to kill a
cat's child into the mix, I think it can safely be said that this predator is asking for some
serious trouble.
In this next clip, we'll be returning to the wild, showcasing a moment when a mother cat
had to stand up for her children in the face of a deadly and ravenous python.
The kittens had been having a nice time, just relaxing as they came out of the shed they
had created, but things soon turned sour when they noticed the python on their tail.
The kittens had seen the python and then ran into their mother's arms, and the mother cat
braced herself for what was coming.
The fight was undoubtedly a tough one, but at the end of the day, the mother cat won
and was able to protect her kittens successfully.
Mummy power strikes again!
Honey Badger Mauls a Mole Snake If there's one animal that has pretty much
become the bane of most snakes' existence, it would be the honey badger.
The stocky mammal is known to have a bit of resistance to venomous snake bites, and even
worse it actually preys upon them.
So you can imagine how scared the snake must have felt when it came toe-to-toe with its
mortal enemy, and in this clip from around five years ago, we see what happens when a
mole snake comes into contact with the famous honey badger.
This fight was pretty one-sided, considering that it has no venom, the mole snake was looking
to squeeze the badger instead, but that badger was having none of it.
Despite frequent strikes to the head, the badger had shrugged it off as though it was
nothing, and as soon as the snake knew that the jig was up, it tried to run.
This was all the badger needed to turn the fight on its head, and as soon as it grabbed
onto the snake's tail, it was pretty much a done deal.
Alligator Dominates A Burmese Python The Burmese python is one of the biggest
snake species in the world.
With their massive size, they find it pretty easy to constrict any animal.
But in this encounter deep in the Florida Everglades, this Burmese python got a little
more than it bargained for when it went face-to-face with an alligator.
After a pretty dragged-out battle, the alligator eventually made a heel turn and allowed the
python to go, but I think that this is one battle that the large snake will not be forgetting
any time soon.
Red-Tailed Hawk Hunts A Rattlesnake There's a special type of courage that it
takes for an animal to decide to make a meal out of the American diamondback rattlesnake,
and that's exactly what this red-tailed hawk seemed to do.
In our next clip, we see the moment when both animals collide in an open desert, and it
was as epic as it was thrilling.
The hawk had been tailing the snake for quite a while, and it was sure that it had gotten
a good eye on it.
Immediately, it swooped in for the kill at the slightest of opportunity.
As you would imagine, the rattlesnake immediately got its venom ready and was looking to pounce,
but even its deadliest bite was no match for the hawk.
With its strong feet, the hawk stomped repeatedly on the desert dweller, breaking its head in
the process.
What a delicious meal that probably was.
Mother Chicken Protects Her Chicks From A Cobra Speaking of animals that snakes love,
chickens are definitely high on that list.
They're relatively defenseless, and once a snake hits a chicken with its venom, it's
pretty much a wrap.
Chickens are also known to be rather fierce when they need to be, and when this mother
chicken saw the threat that the cobra posed to her babies, she got the courage to stand
firm against it, even though the odds were not in her favor.
Honestly, this is probably the most impressive show of courage I've ever seen from a chicken.
It's as though she knew the danger that the cobra posed, but she just didn't care, and
in the end, she managed to fend it off.
In the end, all of the chicks were home safe, all thanks to their courageous mother.
Bobcat Squares Off Against A Rattlesnake It sure looks as though rattlesnakes can't
catch a break.
In this next clip, we see a fierce battle between a rattlesnake and a bobcat, and while
rattlesnakes are generally favorites, it should be noted that bobcats are not to be
toyed with, and their keen sense of smell, strong jaws, and sharp claws killing their
prey is mostly an easy feat.
We see a perfect example of a bobcat's immense hunting ability here.
After a few quick strikes to the head, the bobcat had seen its opportunity and immediately
took it.
It turned out to be good night for the rattlesnake in the end.
Praying Mantis Munches On A Snake When you think about animals that would be
able to fend off a snake attack, the praying mantis may not necessarily come to mind.
But these guys are not necessarily to be toyed with.
With their strong mandibles and sharp teeth, praying mantises pack quite the punch.
Just ask this poor snake, which got a first-hand taste of how the mantis hunts.
Despite its best efforts, the snake was unable to free itself from the mantis' grip, and
knowing that it had its grip locked on, it went to work literally eating its prey alive.
The snake was luckily able to free itself eventually, but I doubt that it will be causing
any more trouble any time soon.
Chicken Defends A Poultry From A Snake Back to the topic of chickens and how snakes
love to mess with them, we have this next clip, featuring a moment when a snake was
trying to slither its way into a poultry farm.
The problem, however, was that the poultry had a security code, that being this stalwart
chicken.
Can you even imagine a snake being bested by a chicken?
Mother Nature can truly be a weird mistress sometimes.
The Triple Threat Challenge For this next clip, we'll be looking at a
situation that involves an animal that we've already seen before, the honey badger.
Here, it's not only about the badger, because Mother Nature loves to play jokes.
She threw an additional animal into the mixture, being a jackal.
As the clip shows, this python already had the honey badger cornered and squeezed up,
but the opportunistic jackal decided to come in and get a little taste.
And let's just say that python was not so happy about it.
With the jackal distracting it, the python eventually let go of its grip, but instead
of running off, the stubborn badger decided to stick in the fight and get its revenge.
Not even the mighty python can fight a war on two fronts, and with a jackal and badger
on each end, it just couldn't keep up.
To make things worse, a second jackal comes along to join in on the party, and this python
was done for at that point.
It really was just a case of who got to keep the python, as the spoils of war from there.
Turkey Drags Snake Through A Golf Course
Generally, turkeys are not exactly known for their bravado or fidgeting prowess, but when
these guys are threatened, you best believe that they will fight back.
In this clip, we see a point when a gopher snake runs into a group of turkeys while trying
to make its way through a golf course.
I'm not even sure what the turkeys were looking for there, but it appears that the snake had
tried to get a piece of them, and boy did it regret that decision.
At some point, the other turkeys in the clip try to get a piece of the action as well.
It looks like everyone just kept having fun with this guy.
It was a poor day out for the reptile.
Now I know that many of us hate snakes in general, but considering the outcomes of these
videos I just have to ask.
Are these guys really the apex predators that we think they are?
