OK, let's get more on the game between Liverpool and Tottenham at
the weekend and the fallout from it. In terms of the VAR, we will talk
about that in just a moment, but Liverpool will appeal the red card
that was handed to Curtis Jones. Remember, he was initially given a
yellow and then Simon Hooper was asked to go to the monitor, he
looked at it and it was upgraded to a red card. The big breaking news
coming out of this is that now Liverpool have made a formal
request to PGMOL for the audio conversations between the officials
from Saturday's defeat at Tottenham. That will include Dan Cook,
who was the assistant VAR, the VAR himself, which was Darren England,
and Simon Hooper, who was the referee on the pitch at the time.
Initially, Lewis Diaz's goal was incorrectly ruled out. We have
learned today, a little bit more on that situation, Simon Hooper
wasn't told about the error from Darren England, the VAR, until
half-time. The crux of it was that Darren England and his assistant
Dan Cook thought he had scored and thought that he had been awarded,
but it hadn't been. They only thought their job was to confirm that
the goal stood, which is why they said check complete. They were
thinking they were saying that the goal had stood, but it hadn't. The
goal hadn't been given. Due to IFAB rules, they are not allowed to
intervene after that, but as you see him there, Simon Hooper walking
off that pitch right there, he knows nothing about the fact that they
have made a mistake, and that is when he was told by VAR that the
mistake had been made and the goal should have stood. So, just to
confirm, Liverpool have now requested the audio between all the
officials that obviously we have witnessed before, haven't we, with
Howard Webb and Michael Owen, when they did that programme, in order
to tell us a little bit more about what goes on at Stockley Park. Now
they have requested that audio. So, this story, not set to go away
any time soon. We will bring you up to date with any more developments
throughout the day here on Sky Sports News.
