Hello and nice to have you here. I am Rico, fairytales are great.
I have already read today's fairytale in a slightly different version recently.
Small warning, this version is sometimes particularly gruesome.
It is about a white-haired boy and his sister.
They make up alternatives to survive in the world.
But soon their loyalty is put to the test.
The boy moves on with three companions without his sister for the time being.
He arrives at a royal court and has to defeat a dragon to save the beautiful princess.
Will he succeed?

The two siblings and the three dogs
by Josef Haltrich
A miller and his wife died one after the other.
But they left behind two children,
a boy and a girl,
and to inherit them nothing but a goat and a rooster.
The children wanted to sell both animals,
so that they would have something to live for,
and the boy of the goat tied the rooster between the horns
and drove them to the flea market.
On the street he met a butcher.
He just wanted to sell cattle and brought three dogs with him.
A black one, a white one, and a spotted one.
Don't you want to trade with me?
he said to the boy.
He looked at the dogs,
and because he liked them very much, he hit them.
The butcher gave him a pipe and said,
If you blow this, the dogs, wherever they are, will come to your aid.
So he returned home.
But his sister began to cry,
when she saw that her brother had not brought any bread.
So we have to starve now,
she cried over the other.
But the dogs had understood everything,
and they only jumped up once and ran away.
Nearby was the Royal Castle.
There the black one ran into the kitchen and brought a roast.
The white one ran into the dining room and brought a loaf of bread.
The spotted one jumped into the cellar and got a bottle of wine.
Now the two children were happy,
ate and drank and had no need from then on.
Because when they were hungry,
the dogs always brought them food.
But the king had heard that three dogs
break into his kitchen, his dining room and his cellar
and carry away the best,
and that they could not be caught.
So he ordered to look everywhere,
and if you catch the dogs,
kill them and their masters.
The children also learned this.
They quickly got up and went deep into a forest with the dogs.
Here they came into a hut.
Inside a candle was burning.
They went inside, and there was an old woman.
She called,
The children were very afraid.
The boy alone soon realized what to do.
He left the black dog in front of the street door,
the white one behind the gate,
the spotted one in front of the front door.
Soon six robbers came and cursed and beat.
The old robber grandmother wanted to go out and warn her people.
Only the spotted dog growled,
jumped against her and did not let her out.
But when the six came to the house,
the black dog jumped up,
tore her down and killed them all.
Then he lay between the dead and whined again.
After a short time, the other six also came.
The black one also tore her down and beat her.
Only one of the robbers,
a young merchant, was not completely dead.
He was still dragging himself into the gate.
The white dog tore him to the ground.
The old robber grandmother had to show everything that could be seen.
In a room lay a large pile of stolen treasures,
and on a wall hung a large sword.
That jumped into the sheath.
The boy took it and tied it to his side.
The cellar was full of dead people.
The old woman had to drag the beaten ones there too.
Only the half-dead young merchant
locked her unnoticed into the chamber.
The next morning the boy took his black dog
and went out to look around.
The sister stayed with the other two dogs in the robber's hut.
Then the old woman took a pot,
went out into the chamber,
fed the merchant,
and soon he was fresh and healthy.
Both came to the sister and persuaded her
to marry the merchant and live here
and to own all the treasures.
They were to kill her brother,
but they had to get the dogs first.
That would be easy.
She was only to send the same ones to the chamber for flour.
There she would lock up the old woman.
The young merchant liked the girl,
so he let her in and hid.
When her brother came home,
his sister seemed to have changed.
She also spoke very differently.
Only once did she send the dogs out into the chamber for flour.
The boy noticed something.
He went out and wanted to go into the chamber,
but it was tightly locked.
Then he remembered the pipe
that the butcher had given him.
He took it out and blew.
Suddenly the door opened in two
and the three dogs were around him.
Now he went back into the hut.
There stood his sister and the young merchant
and wanted to attack and kill the boy.
But he drew his sword and cut off the merchant's head,
then went into the chamber
and did the same to the old man.
Then he ordered his sister
to drag the dead into the cellar.
Then he threw her in himself and said,
by locking her up,
If you haven't eaten the young robber,
you should stay here forever.
Then the boy took his three dogs and left.
But he came to a city
where the houses were all covered with black floor.
He immediately asked what that meant.
Then the merchant told him
There was a seven-headed dragon nearby.
A virgin had to be brought there every year,
and now it was the king's daughter,
and therefore the city was in mourning.
Then the king's daughter went out without company.
Only the coachman was on the carriage.
The boy took his dogs and went there too.
He came to the city on a detour.
But the coachman did not dare to drive close.
He kept quiet from a distance,
and the queen's daughter had to
lay back the rest of the way on foot.
When she arrived,
the boy came up to her and said,
Don't be afraid, I want to subdue the dragon.
His sword was already jumping in the sheath
and yearning for the dragon's blood.
Soon the terrible wolf came running up.
The boy raised his sword,
and at one stroke all the captains were down.
But he remained standing still,
and now he was struck by the dragon's
fluttering tail, so that he fell like dead.
The dogs now jumped on the dragon
and nearly killed him.
Only the limbs twitched until the sun went down.
But the queen's daughter sank to the corpse and cried a lot.
The dogs also came and cried,
and knew no advice.
Finally the white-skinned dog remembered
the pot from which the old woman
brought the merchant to life in the forest.
As they told it,
the black one gave them a dull blow,
why they should not have thought of it earlier,
and they had to run right away and bring the pot.
When the queen's daughter had smeared the corpse,
he opened his eyes,
was fresh and healthy,
and it seemed to him that he was waking up
from a deep sleep.
You have saved me and should now
have my hand as my father promised.
cried the queen's daughter.
The boy was happy about it,
but he wanted to test her
whether she would be true to him,
and said,
I still have to move around the world
and fight dragons,
but under day and year I will come,
then we want to hold a wedding.
The queen's daughter cut her name
from the handkerchief and gave it to the boy,
and she put a silk ribbon around the neck of each of the dogs,
a white one for the black one,
a black one for the white one,
and a striped one for the spotted one.
Then the boy cut the tongues
out of the dragon's heads,
put them in and went on.
But the queen's daughter cried.
When the coachman saw that the dragon was dead
and the boy was gone,
he also ran and asked the queen's daughter
why she was crying
because she was now free.
How should she not cry,
she said,
because her father had left her.
The coachman, however,
had a bad plan for this.
He threatened the queen's daughter
that if she did not promise to say
that he had killed the dragon,
he would kill her on the spot.
In the emergency,
the queen's daughter promised it.
Then he took the head of the dragon,
put it on the carriage
and drove home with the queen's daughter.
The whole people cheered
when they saw her again
and the coachman got out.
The king also wanted to keep his word
and ordered that the wedding
be celebrated.
But his daughter begged him
to give her a year's free time
and so he let it happen.
The year was just over
and the wedding day was there.
The whole city was decorated
and in the royal kitchen and in the cellar
everything was busy.
The boy had also come to the city
at the appointed time.
The host told him
why the whole city
was so happy today.
The coachman of the king
had killed the dragon a year ago
and only today,
because the queen's daughter
wanted it so,
the wedding should be celebrated.
The boy saw how faithful
the queen's daughter had been
to him and that it was a shameful
deception in the game.
But he did not say anything
to the queen's daughter.
He said he would eat and drink
from the king's table
and in the end the king
would lead him to the wedding
with four white hens.
The host did not believe
that this was possible
and bet on his entire fortune.
When it was lunchtime
and it was said that everyone
was already sitting at the royal table,
the boy sent his black dog.
He was to bring the roast
that wanted to defend him
and just now the queen's daughter
had presented the best piece
when the dog picked it up
and left with it
and brought it to his lord.
But the queen's daughter
had recognized the dog
on the white ribbon
and was happy in her heart
that her savior was near.
Now the boy also wanted
to have bread.
The white dog had to get it.
The king went out
and ran out.
The old king, the bridegroom
and the guests were astonished
and were angry.
Only the queen's daughter was happy.
Now I also want to drink,
said the boy
when he had eaten.
The tanned dog had to get the wine
that was on the table
in front of the queen's daughter.
He did it just like the black
and white dog.
But the old king could not
keep his anger back.
He gave orders to investigate
the lord of the dogs
and to bring him to him.
Immediately a lot of soldiers
went back and forth
and searched for him
and came to the inn.
When they saw the dogs here
and their lord next to them,
they wanted to pack him
and take him away.
Only the dogs fell over them
and his anger rose to the highest.
He sent all his soldiers
to bring the black dog.
Even these
could not do anything.
The dogs all fell down.
Then the boy said
the king should come
with four white dogs
and lead him to the royal table.
The king had given up his anger
because he saw
that he had to deal with a mighty lord.
His pride alone
did not allow him
to go there himself.
He only sent a minister
and a cart with two horses.
But the boy sent them back
and let the king say
he should come himself
and with a four-wheeled horse,
as it was requested.
Otherwise it would not be good for him.
The queen's daughter
told her father
not to risk his life
and so he mastered his anger
When the king's cart
was pulled by four white dogs
in front of the lord's house,
the lord ran like crazy to the boy
and said,
You have won the bet,
but I am a ruined man.
The boy alone comforted him.
So you believe me now?
Well, I'll give you back
everything you have lost.
So he went out
and sat next to the king
and his three dogs
As soon as he rode on,
the lord said,
I have never hosted such a guest
in my life.
When they arrived at the king's hall,
the boy immediately sat
opposite the bride
and next to her sat the bridegroom.
Now they ate and it was funny.
Finally, after some
conversations, he came to the
answer of questions.
When the turn came to ask
the boy, he said,
I am the one who deceives the king
into the most shameful thing.
The bridegroom immediately said,
He deserves to be tied to the tail
of a wild horse and
dragged through the city.
Then the boy got up.
You have made your own judgment,
because you know,
I am the dragon slayer,
not you.
But the coachman still claimed
that he had killed him
and had the seven dragon heads
and the guests were on his side.
But the boy said,
one should see the dragon in the mouth.
They did not find a tongue in it.
Where are the tongues?
the boy asked.
If you have killed the dragon.
The coachman was not
caught on this
and claimed boldly,
dragons had no tongues.
The guests found this
strange.
Alone they did not know
Then the cook was called in
and the king asked him
if he knew an animal
that had no tongue.
The cook said he knew none.
All animals should also have
a tongue,
because what else should they taste?
Well, said the boy,
I want to prove it even more
that the dragons have tongues.
He took out his cloth,
wrapped it up
and put seven dragon tongues
on it.
And when they were held in the mouth,
they all fit exactly.
The coachman began to tremble
and wanted to get out.
Alone they held him tight.
Now the queen's daughter will also
testify that I killed the dragon.
With this he took the name
from her handkerchief and said,
Is this your work?
Look at the necklaces of the dogs.
Do you know them?
Tell me.
When the matter was already out
without her consent,
she kept her oath
for free and told everything
about the dragon fight
and how she gave her liberator
the name from her handkerchief
and put the necklaces
around the dogs.
How then the coachman came
and threatened to kill her
if she did not solemnly promise
to give him up for the dragon killer.
Then the coachman was arrested
and executed on him.
But the boy now held a wedding
with the queen's daughter
and she was overjoyed and happy.
When the old king died,
the boy followed him
in the kingdom
and he ruled wisely and justly.
But there was a sorrow
in his heart.
He thought of his sister
and although she treated him so badly,
he had now forgiven her
and he wanted to make her,
not only happy,
but also happy.
So he moved with his dogs
to the little forest house.
There he found her in the cellar.
She had consumed all the dead,
but not the coachman,
and she did not want that either.
She preferred to die.
The brother now took her
to his royal court
and made her the first court lady.
She alone had not yet
admitted her mistake.
The court lady
made a sharp knife
and put it in the king's bed.
When the king
threw himself on the bed in the evening,
it went through him
and he was soon dead.
But in the morning,
when it was heard that the king
had been murdered,
the whole country was filled
with the greatest grief.
But the sister had
driven her evil conscience
out of the king's heart.
But the queen threw herself
on the corpse,
wrung her hands
and could not cry
in pain.
The dogs lay around her,
whinnying in grief
about their lord and moaning.
Then they remembered
the pot with the living
salve.
They quickly ran to the place
where the dragon lay,
where he could stroke her.
Then he opened his eyes again
and was healthy.
Everything was full of joy.
No one was happier
than the queen.
When the king was told
what had happened to him
and that his sister had escaped,
he cried out,
Yes, the evil snake,
she did it!
He had her searched again
and locked up in the forest house
until she was starved.
But it happened
that the dogs
came to the king
and said,
From now on
we cannot use anything.
Get rid of the head.
No, never!
It would be a great thank you
for such faithful servants.
If you could not
show him any more service,
he would care for her
and I would like to thank you
the most
when he fulfills her wish.
And so he finally took
his sword
and cut off the head of everyone.
Look,
there once stood
three royal sons.
Thank you,
you have redeemed us.
We were enchanted for so long
that a young hero
would cut off our head
and everyone would return
to their home.
And so everyone was happy
and satisfied.
