Hey guys, welcome back to a new video of this week.
In today's video, I want to share with you some things about how we can learn a new skill or a new field.
Because I think that in a world that is developing so fast, as fast as it is out there,
you know that the fact that we are learning new things, learning new knowledge, new skills,
it is very necessary for us to develop our careers in the future.
And today I want to share with you that I have learned quite a lot of things myself.
For example, I used to take exams at this university.
Or I used to learn English, or learn guitar.
Or recently, I learned some knowledge about making videos,
then marketing, how to build channels.
And at this time, I am also spending a lot of time to learn and dig deep into the knowledge of new hobbies.
That is my running hobby.
And today I want to share with you some things related to my personal experience.
So when you start to learn a new skill, learn a new field,
how do you apply it?
I hope this video can help you in the story that you can improve your self-learning ability
or you can find the best self-learning path for yourself.
The first part is the questions you should ask yourself based on your own experience.
And the first thing I want to ask you is
when you start to learn a new skill or a new field,
is it really your strong point or not?
This is quite practical, but to be honest with you,
we are not born to be able to devote ourselves to all fields.
For example, I see some people are quite calm,
some people are quite energetic,
some people like calmness.
So when you understand your personality traits,
when you choose a new field or a new skill,
you have to ask yourself if it is really the thing you should spend time on.
Because when you ask yourself that question,
you will know that there are some fields that are more suitable for your personality.
There will be some things in our lives that we can do much faster than others.
I will give you a simple example.
For example, learning to play the guitar.
I know that when I spend time learning to play the guitar,
I will definitely have enough ability to play the guitar,
to sing and to sing some normal songs.
But when it comes to becoming a professional guitarist,
I will not choose to become one.
So let's come to the second question.
I want to ask you a question.
What level do you really want to have in that field?
Actually, when I learn English or when I learn to play the guitar,
I just want to spend enough time on it,
not to become a professional guitarist or a professional English teacher.
This does not mean that I do not decide to become an expert in that field
because to be honest, I don't have a passion for it.
I just think that such skills and knowledge will support my career in the future.
Similarly, the second question is that you should ask yourself
when it comes to such a new field,
what level do you want to reach?
Do you want to become an expert in that field?
Or do you just need to spend enough time to be able to support your life and your career in the future?
The third question in this part, which you should also ask yourself,
is how much time are you willing to spend on it?
This is a question that Chris can share with me quite a lot in my story of learning Chinese.
And when I started learning Chinese, I started to ask myself
that if I spend time to learn Chinese,
if I spend time to practice Chinese,
what level do I want to reach?
I asked myself that question and I can answer that
I just want to communicate with Chinese people,
sometimes I can go to China to travel.
It's not that I want to become a Chinese teacher or become a very good Chinese speaker
in the way that I can read and understand books in Chinese or something,
or I can learn their writing.
Similarly, in this part 3, it is related to the story that
how much time are you willing to spend in a day to learn Chinese?
And when I started asking questions, I immediately stopped for a while
because honestly, there are quite a lot of things in my life that are being influenced.
And when I ask questions like that,
from the fact that I spend time reading, jogging, making videos,
and doing business,
actually, when I spend too much time on those things,
I started to think that
I don't have too much time or I don't commit to that amount of time.
And because of this point, honestly,
in this period of time, my Chinese ability is also improving a bit
and I can only spend about 30 minutes to 1 hour a day
for a coffee break and review some things related to Chinese.
And because of learning on-off like that,
I feel that my ability to communicate is not far away.
Similarly, when you start learning a new field,
there are a lot of questions that you ask yourself.
That is, how much time are you willing to spend in a day for that skill, that new field?
And to the last question of this part,
when we have to ask ourselves questions,
that is, how can we find the best way to learn?
And based on my experience, as well as when I talk to my friends,
I know that there is a part related to our brains.
That is, each of our brains has a different way of absorbing knowledge.
Some people will absorb knowledge by reading books
or you can study some videos, some documents.
Some people learn by doing it themselves, doing it wrong and fixing it wrong.
Similarly, we will find a way to learn knowledge in a new field as soon as possible.
Some people like sound, some people like images,
some people are quite active, some people are very calm.
Similarly, when we start to notice that the story of learning something new,
each person will have a different way of learning to be effective for that person.
Similarly, the question you ask yourself,
that is, which way of learning is really suitable for you?
Similarly, there is a memory of learning English like that.
When I share my way of learning English,
it's like I spend time to take my friends around Hanoi to visit some tourist spots.
And then I can use that time with my friends to practice my ability to speak English.
And when I find out one thing, that's the way I can really improve my English the most.
But there are quite a few people who are not suitable for learning like that
because they tell me that they are introverted
and they are very afraid to meet a new person and they spend a lot of time to get close to them.
Meanwhile, I am completely the opposite.
That is, I only need to meet them for about 1-2 hours and I am very close to them.
And I can talk to them like friends.
Tip number 2, I want to share with you during the process of self-learning, self-exploring,
self-exploring a new field,
that is, you find an environment where there are a lot of people who are good in the field you are interested in.
I have shared quite a lot of this in terms of learning English.
And this is the thing that I see that applies to all the areas that you are trying to improve and develop.
And this seems to be a human need, a need to belong to a certain community.
So when you start learning a new skill,
it's better that you find an environment where there are a lot of people who are eager
to improve that skill.
And you can imagine this, if you spend time with people who don't really care about that field,
for example, I am a YouTuber,
then what I should do is to spend time with people in the same field as me,
that is, YouTubers, people who are creating content on YouTube.
And similarly, in any field,
for example, when I run, I will find a community of very good runners.
And there are a lot of experts there,
they have spent a lot of time researching those fields before me.
Then I can rely on that to learn from their knowledge very quickly.
Although I say this part, it's not like that,
you think about the case of exploitation,
or you think about the case that we can do something to get something from others.
If you have seen my previous videos,
then we should be realistic a little bit,
that is, we must have exchanges, acceptances that are reasonable.
For example, in the process of finding out a new field,
you find such good people,
then don't try to waste their time,
what do they think to help people like that.
In the process of finding out a new field,
when you know that people need help,
and you bring that out so you can exchange it with them.
There is only one thing you need to pay attention to in this part,
that is, when you learn from other people,
there is a part that a lot of people often make mistakes,
even myself,
that is, we are often in the middle of the road,
that is, we don't really know which is really accurate,
which is good, or which is suitable for me.
In this part, I want you to listen to yourself
and ask yourself questions,
like in the first part I shared above,
that is, which is your strength,
which is the best thing you do,
the way people are learning,
the knowledge that they share with you,
is it really applicable or not.
And from there, you should collect the most precious things
so that you can absorb and choose those things
that are the most special to add to your new skills
or add to your new things to become really good.
The third tip I want to share with you in today's video
for self-learning, self-creating a new skill,
that is, we should start with very small things.
One thing I usually see is that
a lot of people talk about a very good person in a new field.
For example, when I first started YouTube,
I saw a lot of friends around me
talking about a famous YouTuber
or a good person in any new field,
like running or learning English.
There are always people around you
who don't really do it,
but they will sit there and talk about it.
And when they talk about it like that,
they don't really help you much.
But in this part, we accept that
when we first start in any field,
we will accept that we will be bad in the first time.
And there is another interesting thing in this part,
when we start, we see that
we accept that in the first time we are very bad,
then our path or story will be quite stable.
That is, when we accept that we are bad,
we accept that, OK, I am a new person,
I will start to open my mind to start learning,
then it is the time when we really learn the best.
It's not that I see a lot of people
just sit there and talk about it,
then you don't spend time to really do it.
The fact that we talk about it like that,
the fact that we praise others for being good,
the fact that we feel overwhelmed by others
doesn't really help in the process,
in the journey that we are trying to improve a new skill.
And besides that, don't forget to set small goals
for the journey,
you can complete a new skill
or complete knowledge in a new field.
A very typical example in my English learning process,
I don't just sit there and watch people
who speak English fluently,
they have had a foundation for quite a long time.
I will start to accept that
in the first time I will practice pronunciation,
then I practice speaking,
then I set a small goal for myself,
that is, I have the ability to communicate freely
and confidently with foreigners
in about 1-2 years.
And during that time,
when I set small goals like that,
and after those goals,
I can have some rewards for myself,
like a trip,
or a book,
or a new pair of shoes.
These parts are like a motivation
for yourself,
that you have done a pretty good job.
And unintentionally,
when we set small goals
and we complete them,
after a while,
everyone will see that
our journey is very fast,
but they don't understand that
in a journey like that,
we have small goals.
And when we set small goals like that,
then when those small goals
are combined after 5 months,
we will see that there is a certain change
in the process that we can
improve our skills in a new field.
And the last part,
part 4 here,
I want to share with you,
that you should really be patient,
because like the video I shared last week,
great things take time,
that is,
really great things take a long time.
And like the way we can understand
that our execution part
to get the result,
it usually takes 5 months,
not like success after a night.
Just like the story I made a video on YouTube,
or any other field,
like English,
or you can learn guitar,
when you have a really amazing result,
you will need a lot of time,
sweat and effort
to practice, practice and study.
Similarly,
in any new field,
when you start to understand,
always remember in your head
that if you really want to be a good person,
we will have to accept
the failures on the journey we go like that.
And here I have a table
to share with you
in the journey that we see
that our ability can improve over time.
You can see that
a very common thing
is around the first time
we feel that we progress very fast,
because as a new person,
we learn new knowledge,
the basic knowledge is quite simple.
But later on,
you can see that
it takes a very long time
for you to take the next step.
After that,
you will need a lot of time
to get to the level of an expert.
Similarly,
in any field,
I hope you will consider this,
that is,
we will have to spend time
to practice year after year,
that is, many years.
And don't forget the principle
that I share with you
in quite a few videos,
that is the 10,000 hours principle.
In fact, this number
is just a symbol.
Experts,
those who are really good
in a field,
they spend more than 10,000 hours
to learn about that field,
and they may not be able
to become the best person
in that field.
And before ending this video,
there is a pretty cool quote
that I want to share with you here
to summarize this video.
It is common that people
often overestimate
the things they can do
in a year,
but they underestimate
the things
they can achieve
in 10 years.
This quote is
a quote that I find
quite subtle
for myself
in the process of
learning about
a certain field.
And perseverance
is always the thing
I want to emphasize
to you
in the process
you want to improve
something.
You can see
that I have been quite
quiet for a while
to be able to focus
on business,
as well as
training for
other subjects
in my life.
Similarly,
I also want to
emphasize to you
that in the process
of doing something,
we should
fully focus
on that time,
let the result
determine
all the things
we do.
And I will see you
in the next videos
next week
to share
with you
other benefits.
