ENGINES REVVING
To officially go.
Let's get it.
For the best in universal, premium,
Ester-containing engine oils and fuel additives
for both petrol and diesel engines,
check the links in the description.
So, what's going on, Gas Gang?
Today, we are back with an absolutely savage video.
Just look behind me.
We have got a 532-brake horsepower TFSI-swapped caddy van.
Guys, you already know this is going to be sick,
so stay tuned and let's get it.
ENGINES REVVING
Jake from Job Automotive. Welcome to the channel, brother.
Thank you, mate. How are you?
I'm good, bro. It's always a good day when you see a caddy van
with a crazy engine in it, bro.
Look, there's quite a few of these running around,
as in people who have modified caddy vans.
But this one, you've kind of pushed a level up.
A little bit, yeah. We've gone a bit over TT, to be honest with you.
Obviously, it started off as a 1.6 diesel,
smashed the gearbox up on that
and then decided to do the whole TFSI swap.
And here we are, like two and a half years later,
at 532 brake at the minute.
Do you want to tell us what it's taken, engine build-wise,
to kind of get to this power?
So, obviously, being a CDL from an S3,
they normally take around about 450 stock.
Got you.
Most people run, like, the Venom 450s, stuff like that,
and then just call it a day.
To go, like, big frame turbo, GTX 30 or 35+,
the weak point on these is always pistons.
OK.
The stock ring lines are so close together,
they basically, over time, just crack.
So, engine-wise, obviously, full strip down,
pistons, rods, obviously, ACL bearings,
ZRP rods, Wozner pistons.
On the stock, 82.5mm bore.
Cylinder heads, CDL stock cams, valve train.
We've actually left the springs standard this time
with Supertech springs and retainers.
And that, pretty much, is about as simple as it gets.
OK, OK. And you talk about it in detail
because you've built this whole van yourself.
I have built the van, yeah.
The only thing I haven't done, like a lot of people know,
is I didn't do the wiring.
Andy at Overboost, who does a lot of these conversions,
has done it for me.
He's a really knowledgeable guy.
Cool, cool. All right, tell us about your turbo setup, man,
because, yeah, I just love how it sits.
So, it's a TSR Sidewinder manifold,
which they run on their actual race cars.
OK.
The only downfall to this is I have no heating.
At all.
No heating, no heater matrix pipes.
Basically, where it goes through the back,
it sits so close back here, where the heat shield is,
it covers the heater core pipes.
That's a race car. I've got to imagine.
There had to be sacrifices, bro, and you made them.
There's sacrifices, yeah.
So, yeah, TSR manifold, mounted to a Pulsar 3076 Gen 2.
Wastegate tile, 44mm.
OK, OK.
14psi spring.
All the boost pipes and stuff, all custom-made by a friend of mine, Sam.
I'm loving its external...
External gate, straight out of the bonnet.
Straight out of the bonnet.
That's mad. You've got the Honda vibes going on here.
The thing is, as well, the amount of people,
like, obviously, where my workshop is,
it's like a Honda going down the road.
Because when it comes on boost and, obviously, it screams,
it just sounds like a Honda.
Epic, epic. And it's supporting mods.
I see you've got a nice intake manifold.
Yeah, RPC manifold.
We've got S3 injectors with the Artec Plus 30%,
which is basically like a hybrid injector.
Got you.
AKS do a custom 175-bar pressure relief valve,
basically so you can bump up the pressure.
High pressure, on the high-pressure pump,
we've got an AKS roller conversion kit.
So, on the original TFSIs here, they normally run a cam follower.
OK.
So, this extension, in the whole case, is modified
to run the newer style EA888 roller.
Got you.
So, they basically just roll on the natural bearing
instead of being a follower.
OK.
Inside the high-pressure pump, we've got VIZ internals,
high-pressure internals,
just to basically just keep the pressure up there.
So, Bartek rocker cover through custom VAG parts
with the external catch can.
And then, same again, Bartek oil cooler.
You can't really see it, but it's through there.
Oh, yeah, poking out. Yeah, we see it.
External cooler with a sandwich plate,
which goes onto the original oil cooler housing,
which has got a thermostat in there,
so it opens and shuts when it needs to.
OK, nice.
And the nicest thing, anyone that's got a Mark V, Mark VI Golf,
these Vibratec mounts, they're only the road series,
but I want to tell you, for the price,
they'll pay 400 quid for them.
They're amazing.
Gearbox-wise now, stock?
So, it's actually a diesel box with a Quaife LSD.
Nice.
Everything else, stock.
Clutch-wise, it's got a TTV Racing five-paddle clutch
with a lightened flywheel.
At the minute, we're around about 670 Nm,
which is like high 550 foot-pound.
Got you.
The clutch can take it.
Obviously, when we go out, you'll hear it.
It can be on the down rung a bit,
ching, ching, ching, a bit hummy,
but it's just something you have to live with, unfortunately.
It's just one of those.
Let's talk about wheels, brakes and suspension while we're here.
So, suspension, we're on BCBR series.
Annoyingly, with the caddies, they are on Leafs.
Okay, okay, okay.
Axles flipped.
So, basically, flip the axle above the Leaf to make it lower.
And then, the same again, BCBR adjustable rear shocks
with dark side developments, rear shackle plates.
Brakes, Mark VI Golf R, 345s with EBC USD discs
and Yellowstuff pads.
Rears are R32.
Okay, interesting.
So, the 310 conversion.
And then, wheels, Team Dynamic 1.2s, common as anything.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sit nicely.
Yeah, they sit all right, to be fair.
12 more spacers on the front, 10s on the backs
with a studded nut conversion.
But, yeah.
Cool, cool, cool.
All right then, bro.
Well, listen, I think myself and everyone else
probably wants to see this bad boy move.
So, should we go for a rip?
Yeah, totally.
Cool, let's do it, man.
All right, bro.
So, first pulls in this bad boy.
Second gear.
Second gear, give it to us.
It is insane.
It sounds like a Honda, doesn't it?
Yeah.
The power delivery on this is so smooth.
It's smooth, nice and linear, yeah.
But it's got the drama when the gate opens up and that.
Bro, this is insane.
Guys, you're probably seeing and witnessing what's going on,
but noises like this should not be coming from one of these.
You know what I mean?
You do see, as I say, people putting lumps in these kind of cars,
but it just...
Come on, bro.
You've got the Japanese sounds going on and everything.
That externally gated turbo just changes the dynamic, doesn't it?
When it comes on, yeah, it's lovely.
That is insane.
Oh!
Oh, my gosh.
Bro, this is no joke.
All I've seen is a heat haze, too.
I can't see anything.
When it comes on boost, guys, it's literally just a heat haze.
So, I think that was what, end of third then?
Bro!
Yeah, diesel gearbox, literally.
Long gears.
Trust me.
Long gears.
And the way it just cornered there, too.
Bro, I don't feel like I'm in a van right now.
Obviously, because the seats are a lot lower as well,
that makes a huge difference.
Bro!
Honestly, no joke.
Bro, this gets down.
Yeah.
It's so calm. I even saw it in one-handed.
That's what I mean, bro.
A front-wheel drive car with this much power,
traction control off right then, yeah?
Traction off, yeah.
It was like first a spin, second, a little bit of spin.
It's very... It's not putting up a fight.
It looks like it's dialed in, bro, is what I'm trying to get at.
I would expect with the Quaife, it would have moved around a lot more,
but it just...
Obviously, we've done a few runs now.
The tyre got some heat in the tyres.
Yeah.
Bro, this is...
It's just the noise. It's the noise that make you happy.
Oh, mate. This is insane.
The amount of people, right?
You're driving down the road, come on, booze, gate opens, flat out.
You're expecting something Japanese.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Oh, it's just a van.
Just a Volkswagen Caddy, literally.
It's a van.
Right, guys, so it is that time.
It is the gas stop, zero to 60 with the V-Box Performance Box Touch.
Now we are finally doing a zero to 60.
I know I've been letting you guys down lately.
If the box turns on, hopefully...
It's going to be a spin to see.
There we go.
Well, this is the thing. It's going to be interesting because...
Now, you have got this really cool traction control kind of function.
Yeah, traction mapping.
So, obviously, when it does detect traction slip,
it will basically, like, numb the power ever so slightly
and then come back on, like, gradually.
So, obviously, the original Volkswagen software,
you could spin and, like, the whole thing would just, like, fully cut.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And it's horrendous.
What, though, do you...
So, in fact, we've been speaking off-camera.
You reckon you've done a 4.7 to 60?
4.7 before, yeah.
And that was, like, that's when I had the anti-lag.
So, I was literally sat on anti-lag, traction on, up in the revs,
and then just go.
As soon as you get out of second, sorry, first...
You're good.
Because the gearbox is so long, that's it, just pin it.
What do you reckon you're going to hit today?
I don't know.
Sub-sixes, yeah?
Be nice.
All right, cool.
The thing is, as well, it depends on the surface.
Obviously, tyres are nice and warm, so that's a big part of it.
That'll be interesting.
Okay, all right, well, place your bets at home,
and we're all about to find out.
Let's get into it.
All right, guys, so, it is his first attempt.
The shades are off, so he means business.
So, whenever you're ready, sir, let's get it.
Whoa, whoa, whoa.
Shock and stuff.
Oh, you missed it.
I missed it.
Sixty.
That's horrendous.
All right, you could do so much better, that was a 7.48.
You lurched, too, and that started the counter at the beginning.
I'm guessing you want to go again.
We'll go again, yeah.
He's going again!
That was horrendous.
Bro, when you're ready, let's go.
Better, better.
Sixty.
That was a 5.5 to 60.
Now, do you reckon you could do better, or are you happy?
We'll do one more, one more.
Yeah? Let's do one more.
He's going again!
All right, guys, it is his final attempt.
Bro, when you're ready, let's go.
Sixty, that was quite good, but that was a 5.60, so slightly slower.
I'll put the leaderboard up now.
We're in a van, doing five and a half seconds with two of us in it.
It shouldn't be done.
I don't know where you are, but regardless, it feels insane.
Right, so, this, bro, like, for one, I commend you, sir.
I want to shake your hand.
I've only had one of these on the channel before, a lesser power.
I don't know if it was a TFSI.
I think it was a TFSI, and it didn't end well.
I'll put the link to that somewhere up here.
But so far, this is a completely different beast.
This has got to be one of the highest powered TFSI pads out there.
I think it's got to be probably one of the...
Obviously, being TFSI, because most of them now,
there's, like, 1,300 brake RS3 ones.
They're all four-wheel drive, they're all five-pot RS3 engines.
This has got to be one of the highest EA113 front-wheel drive caddies out there,
to be fair.
Don't hold me to it.
I'm sure there'll be someone in the comments...
No, no, no, mine's two brake horsepower more.
Exactly.
Obviously, yeah, we have got so much more potential to go more.
It's just at the minute, we're at, like, 5.32.
Bro, it's enough.
You're probably seeing the way this car's moving.
The way it sounds, it's got the drama, bro.
It's involvement, and it's manual.
Manual.
Proper man's car.
None of this DSG.
So, we've got traction control off?
Traction's off, yeah.
Second.
Probably just spin.
Cool, let's go.
Bro, the build, and the brakes are good, you know.
Brakes are good, yeah.
Bro, honestly, this is too quick.
It is...
All I can see is...
There's a heat haze.
A gate haze.
Bro, like, it feels faster from the driver's seat,
and it felt very fast from the passenger seat.
Yeah, yeah.
This is insane.
Shall we drop it down into second?
Yeah, go second, yeah.
I'll say full boost at literally four.
So, yeah, second, yeah.
Send it.
Bro, it's scary.
Bro.
I have no words.
This is a proper...
Bro, bro, bro, bro, bro.
This is sick.
Like, what is it?
Like, the sound, like, it's so intimidating.
You know when you're just...
Do you know when it's teetering on the edge of opening that gate,
and not like...
I mean, because you can just feel the boost wanting to go,
and as soon as it comes on boost, bro, it is savage.
Right, let's get a little...
Right, third gear. Straighten her up.
Keep going, keep going.
I'm checking it out, bro.
I don't know when it's going to end.
Rev it out, that's the thing, because the gearing's so long,
it just feels like it goes on forever, but...
Honestly, this is...
Mate, this is sick, and it feels so well set up, too.
Like, it feels short-footed.
Like, it shouldn't feel this way.
I thought it was going to be all over the place.
Vans shouldn't do this.
That's the tagline, isn't it?
Vans shouldn't do this.
Jesus Christ.
Bro, this is so angry.
Like, bro, this...
Bro, bro!
Take a shot every time I say,
bro, and you will be a drunk man today.
Oh, my God.
When you read it out, it's got...
Bro, it's probably that last 500 RPM that is just...
You know what I mean?
Honestly, I'm shaking your hand again, bro.
Honestly, this is a joy to drive.
I feel like I'm in a Honda.
I feel like I'm in some mad K-Slot.
Literally, people have said it, like,
some people have said it, like,
I'm in a K-Slot, I'm in a Honda.
I'm in a Honda.
I know it, like, sounds like a Honda,
goes like a Honda.
Annoyingly, we haven't got the revs of a Honda, but...
It feels like it, lad.
I think it's just the ratios kind of playing tricks,
but honestly, what a build.
All right, guys, so we're going to end the video here.
Today has been absolutely legendary.
And because there's been quite a few TFSI swap vans
or people doing kind of, like, swaps to caddies and that,
like, you know, running half-decent power,
it kind of dilutes, like, you know,
when someone reaches out to you.
They're normally, like, stage two, stage two-plus.
Yeah.
Like, 280s.
A lot of people are doing them for you, Les.
I hope the cameras showed it,
because it's insane when it comes on boost.
The way it actually drives, too,
the way it grips, keeps in a straight line,
but also corners,
like, and the drama surrounding this.
Bro, we shouldn't be in a van.
It's a love-hate relationship, and like I say,
the nice thing is, and, you know, I am proud of it,
is the fact that I've literally done it mainly all myself.
Yeah, exactly.
You know, and obviously this is what we do as a business as well.
Bro, tell them where they can find you.
Oh, sorry, I will take your hand again, sir.
So, we're in Lowestoft, Suffolk.
Small business, only myself.
Obviously, we mainly specialise in VAG,
obviously, Audi, Volkswagen, Seats, and Skoda.
The EA113 engine, obviously, which is in my van,
you know, we specialise with them all the time.
So, if you are around in the Suffolk area
and you have got a VAG car,
obviously, servicing, repairs,
obviously, aftermarket products, suspension, etc.,
you can find us on Facebook, Instagram.
If not, like I say, obviously, have a look on the website
at www.jobautomotive.co.uk
and give us a shout.
Like I say, that's what we do.
No French cars.
I hate them.
There you go, there you go.
Well, I'll leave links to his socials down below
so you can find him.
And once again, thank you so much, brother.
I hope you've enjoyed it.
And yeah, if you have, hit that subscribe button.
Give us a like, give it a share too.
It does help.
And of course, we'll be back very soon
with some more crazy content.
Peace out.
