Oh and please follow me on Instagram at @stevefaulkner
Hello, welcome to real magic review. Is it working? Can you hear me? I hope so because it's been a bit of a rush
My name is Steve Faulkner. No, that's very important. Really. Is it and I keep saying that I suppose it's a thing
Do you want to read a little bit red there than I I'm gonna do something about that
Before we continue this I'm gonna look at some comments about mini book pro and a little bit about the corporate stage magician and other
stuff, thank you very much Tom and I see Tommy as well and Chris and
But before we do that, of course
why my eyes are kind of really red and burning is because I run online magic co that's my
Online as the title suggests
membership site 10 years in the making
900 plus videos which is preposterous
Loads different courses wrote magic coin magic as you can see a special guest last week. We had lovely John Allen
Doing some great rubber band stuff and a lot of stuff about his destination box, etc. This week. We've got no quarter and
Roddy McGee
hopefully
But anyway, no, of course definitely coming and we think Roddy is
Which is gonna be great talking about creativity all that for $9.99 and they're all uploaded
There's 150 live sessions, David Williamson, Andy Gladwin all sorts of stuff like that
So talking about Andy Gladwin
Again, I'm bit. I'm genuinely I put a thing on my instagram story at real magic review follow me on there for stories
Well, I just talk bobbins really but do some
behind the scenes stuff
Daily most days and the more you watch the more I'll do and of course, that's at Steve Faulkner for
for other stuff, so
yeah, so tonight is the
Piff the launch official launch vanishing to do in the piff the magic dragon book and we all know, you know, I love my books
and
It I was like looking at it going. Oh, yeah, it's a
Hyping up. They're doing a launch online. Whatever. I don't really watch that sort of thing
I'll just get the book and read it and then I saw who's involved in it and it's ridiculous like Penn and Teller David
Copperfield loads of other people and
Nine o'clock UK time tonight. I've a look what that means in your country, but I reckon you should have a look
So I've look at the vanishing site
You have to kind of put your email in to get your invite and but I don't as limited numbers or anything
And I genuinely nobody said can you do there's anything me to do it?
I'm not good, you know, but I think it's quite a cool thing. You should know about
And I've been looking I've been reading
The pages are blank. It looks like I'm being a bellishing. Yes, man again
Because I'm reviewing it. They sent me is to review
I've been really really enjoying it really loving it. So there you go as a recommendation until I review it and the reason I'm
Tired is because I've been editing for two days because I finally finished the first section of the rubber band course. I've been
Living in rubber band magic for a few weeks now and Dan Harlan. Thank you
Give me permission to teach a lot of his stuff Joe Reinfleisch
Give me permission to tell you so Chris Kenna has given me permission to teach his
Incredible link about me showing one of the best things ever. I've been loving doing that. So that's coming on the course tomorrow
I'll be uploading that so I've never been going on about my course a lot, but I'm excited because it's taken me years
You know, I'm really happy with the way it looks
So yeah, yes good Tom. It's good stuff on it. And I've
There's no more coming, but I'm gonna put a big chunk on tomorrow
right
So thanks for coming any questions. You've got Chad greetings from West Virginia nice to have you here
Chad and and of course everybody else
So I've reviewed
no quarters and Roddy McGee's mini book Pro, which I
Totally a job gosh, my phone's making noises to tell me more money's gone out of my account. That's Andy
I
Love any trick that you know, like Dan house is lit which they do credit
Way something changes into a thing and you know, what's the review? I think it's brilliant. I have been caning it and I'm gonna
It just feels different than a lot of tricks. So I'm going to do the
Comments now you can ask me this is obviously from Nolan Roddy's trick trick boom
Company no was doing a lot of stuff with penguin magic and he's kind of gone now independent with with no and so, you know
The links that I put in the review do use them go to trick trick boom calm or the color UK. Anyway, one of them work
right, so here is the
The comments which I've just put on airplane mode, so I can't get open them up. Hang on
There's nothing more professional than man looking at his phone. Is there?
That's what I think
so Tom
Comment here. That is great
This is a mini book Pro a tech trick with hardly any tech trying to stop spending on
Magic and learn the stuff already have but my buy now finger is twitching
Yeah, and I you know, I've said a lot that I'm trying not to get more magic or get stuff to review
But I do buy as well
And I don't need anything even without the stuff to review
I'm going back to a lot of stuff and
Going back to the coin and card work that I love going back to Marlowe and you know reading
Steve Reynolds's stuff on Marla with prime tomorrow book, which I will be reviewing soon
I'll be seeing Steve soon as well as coming over to the UK. That's very exciting
But you know so much. I've already got so going back
You know, I I looked just before we started I looked at these books look still in its cellophane. I remember getting these books
No, man's land, you know and just go that's really exciting and then completely forgetting Adam
absolutely disgraceful, so
I know what you mean, but this and I'm not saying I'm not saying by it by it, you know
But I'm just saying for me and I didn't buy it. I've got a review copy, you know, so
I've just been really enjoying it. It's a very special thing
So I know what you mean, and if I hadn't got a review copy
There's one of the few things I said, I think I would have bought on which
Subject where's from the comments gone, right?
Most of no stuff requires experience based boldness and really stuff is always brilliant a great marriage
Thanks Steve from Chris who's here as well. Hope you all Chris
Yeah, I'm talking about boldness and it's why I like this is what this whole point of this kind of live stream is about
Which I forgot to put on social media at all. So well done for being here. Thanks
For being it and for watching afterwards, you know
it's about like talking about the things around the trips and the boldness things it's is interesting, isn't it because
That's what makes magic
Magic really, you know, it's it's just things that we do where people
See that boldness and that misdirection. They don't see it. Obviously, that's the point of it, but they
Know he writes about this a lot in the pages of blank by the way that thing is they know it's tricks
They know anything and so the fact that something
That should have been so clear happens
even though they know it must happen at some point it almost makes it better and it's that it's that boldness of
Kind of not that bravery of keeping your call and doing something going
I'm gonna get caught with this a bit like a watch deal and watch deals way way bolder and more difficult than this
Oh, shut up. I keep thinking I put on side. I don't know how to use my phone. I want a new one
It's only an iPhone 11. It's terrible. Anyway, not blaming it
So it's yeah, it's not like a watch deal or anything like that
It's way way easier, but when you learn what you can get away with I always talk about this
They're putting a melon under hat, etc
Then the fact that when they're doing something or that they're doing a job an audience member
You can get away with loads of stuff. And again, he talks about in the book. Now the pages are blank, you know
There's so many opportunities and so much reason why you would turn around a trick turn around when you look at the card turn around
Why you show everybody so you've got it's not even really misdirected
Doing stuff when people aren't looking which I suppose misdirection kind of is but but it's more to it than that
So yeah that but and and no stuff a lot of it does require that
But I think a lot of magic doesn't I would say even the simplest magic does really even if we think it's self-work
And it does require a kind of boldness of of our belief that it's gonna work without doubt because as soon as we doubt it
The audience pick up on it, which is why I was getting caught so much and still do a bit with watch deals
Right. This is an interesting one
From that M
Cool idea and I see why reactions are strong as usual
Magis are the best at repurposing hundred-year-olds effects for modern times
Yeah, and I don't think there's any wrong with that at all
I think you know, all of magic is all built on on ancient, you know ancient ideas and we all know that right?
There's nothing really new. There's new ways of doing things. But you know, we're taking
card tricks as millions of them and
And doing them differently and making them feel like completely different tricks, even though they use, you know age-old principles
I don't have some thing right. This is interesting. So by the way, I'll never stop using this in my set in them
Said every magician on most reviews ever
If magicians actually did what they said
Their set would be made of 92 effects including Allerton's aspirin tin fast-forward to one year later and let's see their set
I find it weird how these types of sentences become the background noise of magic reviews
Right, so I kind of agree with that a little bit
But I try not I know you're not just talking about there
But I tried really hard to not say I'm putting this and I would never say that if I didn't genuinely believe
That I was going to start doing something now
Because I genuinely believe I'm gonna start performing something when I perform it a bit out there. I go. This is brilliant
Doesn't assume I'm gonna be doing it a year later
I know that because what happens is we take all the new stuff out we do it and realize we can't carry it
It's happening. So so the things that filter down the things that are kept I've said many times are
No, there's not much of all the things I've reviewed. There's not much that stays in there
There's a solid thing that I do all the time. Level one is one of them. I
Believe at this moment that this trick
MiniBook Pro is something that will stay because it feels different than anything. I do even though it's a card trick
The reactions are so strong and really funny
Which is what I'm going for that ridiculous thing of going the little thing comes out the thing
There's so many moments in this it does feel like anything else. I do now. Is there a chance?
I won't be doing it in a year. Of course there is
But for now, I really believe that and I don't think I've said that, you know, I've said quite a lot about this
I love doing it, but I probably won't do it when I'm working
And that's alright too and I think it doesn't matter if it's not in my professional set, you know
I've said this many times if it's on the show for instance, it doesn't mean I'll never do it
It just means I don't want to you know, set it up for every show that I do
So for those times when I do want to do, you know certain tricks
I
Will do them even though they might not be part of my professional set
They're still part of what I want to do and by learning them
I've also learned something else which is one of the reasons what always say I started this
Channel is to make me keep learning. But yeah, it's a valid point
So agree. I thought the same being cute. This is from
Sorry, everybody. It's getting worse. Oh, that's brilliant. It's not really clear now funny, isn't it?
The same being cute a novelty idea with a great giveaway the good point
I've got a thing on that in a minute as well a nice review
Just wish you would have really taught more about the card fold needed
Yeah
I think it's okay to say that because it's kind of be a wheel now
And how easy it is to do from scale of 1 to 10 with a gimmick
We are magicians watching those that and that not having no that that haven't you know
Some people don't have an idea love the fact, you know, you test drove it live prior to review, right? Yeah, good point
I did sort of mention everything else and not that so it's the fold in it and we all know and nobody, you know
That's fine, isn't it?
It's scored basically to make it easier
So you've got things like John Allen's perfect score, which I've reviewed and talked about on here anyway
So no, I'm keeping quiet about it does make a mercury card fold
Ridiculously easy you just kind of put the pressure on it and the whole thing kind of collapses into that thing
Way easier than doing it with a non scored card
Now I don't use perfect scoring and all tricks where I do a mark we make recard file because a lot of times
I don't need a perfect folded card. I'm pretty good at it
if it's slightly off it doesn't matter in this trick it does because you want it to fold into the thing and
You you want it now you can score it on your own or you can buy perfect score
You can buy a trick trick boom and of course John Allen's website
And I would recommend it for things like Paragon 3d and things like that
Where you want that card folded and you just put into place force it or whatever and and it does the job
So if you've got a kind of ropey
You've got to have a really good one with this and I really recommend your land and when he came out with
Perfect score as I would have to fold it, you know score that for and then when you use it you go
All right, it's dad. Yes was zero effort
If you want that perfect square
I'm still here. Oh, so I've got booted off last week. Do not internet went down because I think I was
Sinking the drop box to about 15
1500 gigabytes of stuff
So let me know if I'm still here
So, thank you for that another extra review, thank you for your efforts, that's be trigged for some sem free. Thank you, Robert ball
Love you. Rob a ball magician. Very nice spectrum of you. Thank you
I always love Raleigh thinking but this is a good point. But as I strongly dislike Apple products this one isn't for me
Thanks Tom
and
This and I think it's know that wrote this from trick trick boom really good point
I've told this to a friend who hates Apple to it was great
Your presentation can be about how you thought you'd give them a chance some friend bought this for you and you were furious
It's tiny. I think that's a brilliant and I read that and I went I might do that
Anyway, you know, I'm getting a bit tight and this is true
I'm getting tired of Apple because everything's too expensive and you know, they cut out the CD the DVD drive
Which is fine and the USB which is slightly annoying and now they're making computers that big. Oh, it's great. Very funny
Sam press you even replied to this from Sam. I strongly dislike lemon. So I will never do build trip switch ever. Yeah, so
What's not to like pinball wizard I agree and what about the MFC now this is yeah, it's just right
so
That's that
Give me some questions. If you've got any here doesn't like you up. So that's totally fine
Corporate stage act it isn't interesting
That and I
You know banged on about this quite a lot
Is that the the amount and I'm not I'm not angry about this and just genuinely things interesting
That things like the corporates that I know so many people have said to me
I
Want to work on my act my corporate act
I want to get more gigs or get and when there's a course that is
Made to get you more gigs and pretty much promises to get more gigs and will live up to I think if you put the stage
didn't to play
Get to very few views
compared to a trick and actually those people that say that are often spending loads of money on tricks and they'll say well not spending
Hundred quid on the course. I'm not criticizing them because I do exactly the same
it feels like less exciting to to invest in a course and
To to sharpen the saw and if you don't that is I've seen a minute
Then it does to buy a trick
But actually that's the that's a really the really important stuff and I think working on ourselves and working on that sort of thing
I find incredibly difficult because it doesn't feel like work. It feels like work when I'm doing stuff and I'm
Editing and things like that and I put on the Instagram today is a really interesting thing that there's a certain shot
I've been wanting to set up
Very simple, but I've just tried to work it out where it's a complete background black background
But my hands lit when I'm doing stuff. I love that effect for years
I've tried different backdrops and different things couldn't get it, right? I finally went back and
Work and learned how to do actually, you know
I signed up to a thing called creative live which got loads of courses on editing and stuff like that
I went back and I learned how to do it and I'm 10 20 minutes
I went after I do it no backdrop needed all done with light in turned it on within five minutes
I've got exactly the shot I wanted and I think that's the same with with our magic and with our performance and with all the
stuff when we when we go backwards and
We go actually I'm gonna sit down and think about this rather than practice to move and what I'm trying to achieve and go
Go to that place of non urgent important stuff of developing ourselves
We then go back into our work and it's a lot more effective
and the
Sharpening the saw is from Stephen Covey
Well done if he invented it but seven habits of highly effective people talk about you know
That sort of stuff go back and read that very bit of a kind of dated book in some ways and a bit dry
but I still think the the principles are incredible and I kind of try and live my life by it and
Habit seven is sharpening the saw so it goes for all the things, you know, the behaviors that will make you more effective
And this is pretty profound. I think would not be clever. It's not profound for me. I don't do it
But the story is that someone's you know, walking through the forest and there's a guy
You know cutting down a tree and he's really struggling. I mean
Looks like hard work because yeah, I'm really sorry
It's really it's I've got so much wood to cut and I'm really struggling to get through the tree
My soul is really blunt and the guy goes why don't you sharpen the saw goes because I've got too many trees to cut down
and it's that thing of kind of stepping back and
working on the things to make you be able to do what you need to do and you know included that is your health your
mental health your physical health your diet all of that helps
Helps what we do and and go back into our work. And I think that
When I sit down and do a course
I think I haven't got time for this really and actually working through the Corporate Stage Act course has made me go
God, I've been doing that for years. And of course, I shouldn't be doing that
So I'm not saying everybody should buy it. But if it's just I think we should all
Not necessarily sign up to paid courses, but all spend time and actually the the percentage I think
People that write these books people are Stephen Covey said that that most organizations and people should be spending about 40 to 50 maybe
60% of their time doing that because everything else is so
Effective when we do that and everything happens so much more quickly
right
so
It does cool. So I'll just there's no questions really
Marlowe easier to read the Marlowe
So prime time Marlowe is is is is different
So Steve, I think you're talking about what I met there. So Steve Reynolds's prime time Marlowe book is
It is a companion to the film that John Racobama made with Marlowe many years ago
the the film was was was in just jamming in the kitchen sort of thing or at the table and
It's Steve Rollins is remastered and have this companion
The companion isn't a really in-depth do this. It kind of talks you through what Marlowe was doing gives you some sort of instruction
But they're not super detailed. It's kind of for people who work with cards as you do Tom
And then it would but you'll kind of get the get most of the moves
But then if you want the real detail, you can sort of go to Marlowe will go to John Racobama's books
Which I was going to show you but can't find him. Yeah, they're down there somewhat
Yeah card card fixes card finesse all that sort of stuff, but it's um, it's a lovely thing and I will be reviewing it soon
So magical greetings from Oregon
Thanks, Don. Good. Good to have you here. Does corporate act have to be integrated into their product or service?
so I would say so most of the
Pro Magic Academy stuff is around the corporate acts, but actually it's it's most of it is around an act
So if you buy, you know
If you invest in the big course
It's got all the stuff by getting the gigs and what happens when you get to the corporate environment all that stuff
But actually I would say most a lot of the stuff about putting your act together is is for doing any kind of gigs
But I would say it's yeah, it's for kind of working pros
Really?
Right. I think that's it
Thanks very much now no and Roddy are going to be on soon
Remember the the piff launch because I'd love to talk about it. I've got the book. I'm hopefully getting it
I know that there's an incredible
Special edition which I won't be getting for I can't I won't be able for that
I can never afford the special editions or justify affording them
But there's one that I'm sort of tempted by but that it's limited edition
and I think I've heard on the grapevine a couple of things about it and it seems ridiculous, but
yeah, check that out at 9 o'clock UK time and
if I've opened up there, right and there's a link also on my instagram story at
Real magic review. So have a look at my story and Steve Faulkner
