Hello, how are you? My name is Sun, and continuing the sequence of videos about Chinese mythology,
today I'm going to talk about the history of the creation of human beings.
Well, in the previous video about Bangku, I talked about how the creation of the world took place.
But until then, the world was not populated by humans, right?
So how did the emergence of the human being come, according to Chinese mythology?
For this, we have to introduce another goddess of extreme relevance in Chinese culture, which is Nuwa.
Well, Nuwa was one of the few goddesses in that primordial time that circulated on Earth.
But at that time there was very little, the universe had just been created, there were not many gods,
so what happens? Nuwa wandered around the land extremely lonely, there was practically no one to accompany her.
And then one day she, bored, lonely, sad, she saw her reflection in the water.
And when she saw the reflection, she had an idea.
What if she created beings in her image and likeness to accompany her?
She liked the idea and decided to make clay dolls.
And in this case, she was close to the Yellow River, which is a river with a very yellowish water,
the name is suggestive, Yellow River.
So what happens? She shaped small dolls with her own hands, with clay, on the banks of the Yellow River.
And then these little dolls came to life and were the first humans created by Nuwa.
Since the clay was yellow, there was this explanation, because the orientals have a more yellowish skin.
So this myth, this legend, seeks to explain why the oriental humans have a more yellowish skin.
It is because the first humans were made from yellow clay on the banks of the Yellow River.
Then Nuwa made the first humans with this yellow clay on the banks of the river.
But it was very laborious, Nuwa wanted to make a lot of people,
but as much as she worked hard, there was no way, because it is a lot of work to produce a lot of people.
So she had an idea, she took a rope, wet the rope in the middle of the mud, the mud,
then she shook the rope in the air, and in what sprung the mud, the mud of the rope,
each sprung became more a human being.
Then comes an interesting cultural issue, because this legend was used in the past to make this distinction almost of castes.
Remember that in India there is this caste of the Brahmins, which is more elevated, a noble caste,
and then below there are the pariahs, right?
In China, we had a very strong division between the nobles and the nobles,
and this legend was used to make this discrimination between people.
So the nobles would be the descendants of those first dolls made by hand by the goddess, touched by the goddess.
And the pariahs would be the people who were born in this massified way of producing human beings,
on this rope, playing, spinning in the air.
But anyway, just a cultural curiosity.
Continuing with the story, then, the goddess Niwa created human beings based on yellow clay.
The dolls gained life, and over time she was revered as the mother goddess of human beings.
But then what's the problem?
One day, two giants, who had absolutely nothing to do in life, decided to fight each other to see who was stronger.
Then, one of them ended up losing, but he was not satisfied with the fight, with the defeat, by the way.
He went there and hit, hit his own head against the mountain, right?
Out of anger, out of spite, he went there and hit himself against a mountain.
But this mountain, it was one of the pillars, one of the four pillars that supported the sky.
So imagine here, in a world, almost flat, a flat earth, we had four pillars, one in each direction.
These four pillars were what supported the sky up there and protected everyone from suddenly seeing the sky collapse.
But this giant, he hit one of these pillars, and then what happens?
It collapsed, right? The pillar fell and opened a hole in the sky.
And from the hole in the sky began to descend a stream that became a flood.
Another coincidence of Chinese mythology with other legends.
The great flood, in Chinese mythology we also have.
Then, with the hole in the sky began to fall a stream, the flood was dragging everything, spreading diseases, destroying human beings.
They were made of clay, so many humans got lost, right?
A lot of the creation of the Newa goddess got lost, and taking advantage of the chaos of this situation,
many monsters also ended up escaping from their clutches and went there to cause damage.
Even more damage in the world of humanity.
The Newa goddess, desperate because her creation was getting lost, had an idea.
Okay, so there's a hole in the ceiling, I'm going to cover this hole.
For this, she traveled all over the world in search of special multicolored stones,
and then melted all these stones in the fire and built a very large rock,
which is the rock from the fusion of all these special stones that she managed to collect.
Then, okay, she made a huge rock, all colorful, and then she managed to cover the hole in the sky with this rock.
With that, she managed to solve the problem of the flood, because it stopped flowing,
then she managed to save the humans, those who were sick, she cured them.
The monsters that had escaped from the shadows, she killed or expelled.
Legend has it that there was a turtle there, a very evil turtle, let's put it that way,
which was a turtle that wanted to eat and destroy human beings, right?
Then the Newa goddess went there, killed the turtle, cut its legs, and with its legs, reinforced the pillars of the earth,
so that the sky would not fall apart again.
Then, okay, with that, when the Newa goddess realized that she had done all the work, content,
she then withdrew from the world and left for the heavenly kingdom.
And since then, humans have revered the Newa goddess with great gratitude,
first for creation and second for salvation.
And today, despite the Chinese mythology being composed of myths and legends,
and everyone knows about it, we still have temples dedicated to these gods from the Chinese mythology pantheon.
And the Newa goddess is one of the gods that still today has temples dedicated to her in China,
where people will pray in search of a happy marriage, fertility and children.
