Daryl Dixon drops a massive twist involving superpowers and predicting the future, completely rewriting the entire Walking Dead franchise's mythology.

Laurent is clearly a special child in The Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon, but his apparent
ability to predict the future could have huge ramifications for the zombie franchise.
Okay, so AMC's marketing campaign for Daryl Dixon had already established that the young
child Laurent was both vital to the narrative and in some way important to the Earth's
continued survival.
A prophecy from a Buddhist monk proclaimed Laurent as the new messiah and future leader
of humanity, the boy who will one day be responsible for delivering humankind from the zombie outbreak.
It becomes clear that Laurent is extremely intelligent, highly empathetic, and wise beyond
his years, but the most curious sign of his significance is a drawing revealed by Isabelle.
The nun claims that Laurent sketched a picture of a man on a beach shortly before Daryl washed
up in France, possibly suggesting some degree of precognitive abilities.
A child of prophecy finds himself in need of a protector, Isabelle sees Daryl's arrival
as divine providence, and while the jury remains firmly out, Daryl's unlikely presence in
France just when Laurent needs a messenger to help him reach the nest makes a compelling
case in support of the monk's theory.
Zombies aside, the franchise usually keeps fantasy elements at bay, leaving its undead
as the sole unrealistic aspect of the story.
Daryl Dixon changes that with the Buddhist monk's prophecy, immediately turning The
Walking Dead into a more spiritual and fantastical-feeling franchise.
Okay, if, and that's a super big if, Laurent's powers prove to be legitimate, The Walking
Dead will enter a completely different genre altogether, shifting from horror-based drama
into full-on fantasy sci-fi territory.
Laurent predicting the future would also open the door for other characters in The Walking
Dead to possess uncanny abilities, and these special children might, I don't know, maybe
become precious commodities for survivor settlements?
