Chris Wallace's Massive Debate Fail About Hunter Biden Even More Glaring Now, with Maureen Callahan

I have got to ask you about this clip we pulled.
I remembered this.
I said to my team, go back and pull the exchange
because I know that Trump raised this
in the debate with Biden.
He raised the corruption of Hunter,
and I remembered him being shut down
by Chris Wallace at the time.
It was remarkable.
Let me tell you something.
As a debate moderator,
you understand you've hit gold
when the candidates start to argue.
That is when any good debate moderator knows,
shut up, fade into the background.
If it's something good, for sure.
If it's something meaningless, whatever.
But nine times out of 10, fade.
Let them fight.
That's what we're here for.
It's not for you to fight with them.
It's for them to fight with each other.
Look again at this clip, understanding that,
and I know Chris Wallace,
and I've prepared for presidential debates
with Chris Wallace multiple times.
I know he knows this rule.
Look at this clip, understanding where we are today,
what we know today,
that everything you're about to hear Trump say is true.
We now know it's true.
Watch it.
Why is it, just out of curiosity,
the mayor of Moscow's wife gave your son
three and a half million dollars.
What did he do to deserve it?
What did he do with Barista to deserve $183,000?
None of that is true.
If not, none of that is true.
Oh, really, he didn't get three and a half million?
Mr. President, Mr. President, please.
Totally discredited, totally discredited.
And by the way.
Well, wait, he didn't get three and a half million dollars,
Joe?
Mr. Vice, Mr. President.
He got three and a half million dollars.
That is not true.
Oh, really?
Mr. President, it's an open discussion, please.
It's a fact.
Well, you have raised an issue,
let the Vice President answer.
Totally discredited.
Did Barista pay him $183,000 a month
with no experience and energy?
Mr. President.
Look, my son did nothing wrong at Barista.
I think he did.
Mr. President, let him answer.
You get the final word, Mr. President.
Well, it's hard to get any word in with this clown.
It's a very important question.
Try to be honest.
He stood up.
No, the answer to the question is no.
Ukraine.
No, sir.
With a billion dollars,
if you don't get rid of it.
Sir, that is absolutely not true.
You're gonna have, true.
Gentlemen.
He wouldn't let him berate Joe Biden.
He wouldn't let him pummel him.
Give me a real answer.
I don't believe what you're saying.
Great.
Let Joe Biden hold his own.
Let Joe Biden fight.
Let Trump say, that's not true.
He didn't do this.
Give me an answer.
He kept protecting Joe Biden.
And you know what he moved on to, Maureen?
Race.
I'll read you the exact question.
Let's please continue on.
The issue of race.
Vice President Biden,
you say President Trump's response
to the violence in Charlottesville three years ago,
when he talked about very fine people on both sides,
was what directly led you to launch this run for president.
I can't.
You know, I mean, it's so there in real time,
we can all see media entities,
media figures placing their thumb on the scale.
You know, it was so obvious really during that election,
what was going on.
You know, the country was still in the throes of COVID.
There was a lot of trauma.
There was George Floyd, the BLM movement.
There was so much anxiety and there was so much,
I do think it's especially,
and this is coming back to bite the media,
a protection, you know, sort of like nuclear,
like a force field around Joe Biden.
Like don't ruffle his feathers.
Let's just get us through this election
and get him into office
so we can have some sort of return to normalcy.
You know, and I do think that, you know,
January 6th sort of underscored that to a degree.
But the answer now is not to continue to protect
a man we know is a proven liar,
a plagiarist, a fabulist, corrupt,
way too weak to be in office.
I mean, he has not yet gone to East Palestine, Ohio.
And if that disaster had taken place in a coastal city
with moneyed citizens,
you can bet he would have been on a plane,
you know, maybe within two weeks as with Maui,
you know, and then to put your feet on the ground
and start comparing that horrific disaster,
that apocalypse to a kitchen fire in his mansion.
I personally, Megan, I'm sure you feel the same way,
are flummoxed by the media's continued obfuscation here.
That this is why I am fine with the term rigged.
I'm not okay with stolen necessarily,
as it seems to me to imply a massive stealing of votes,
flipping of votes.
But rigged, yes, yes.
From the laptop lies and the shutting down,
of course, of the New York Post reporting,
to this moment right here on the presidential debate stage
with millions of eyeballs watching the two candidates
hash out an issue that the mainstream media wouldn't cover.
So Trump raised it and tried to have a debate
with the guy on it.
That's not unfair.
He's right there.
Let him answer for himself.
That's fine.
You can have a snappy back and forth
where the one says, he didn't, he didn't.
Did he or did he not take the money from Burisma?
That's fine.
And, you know, Wallace kept saying, let him answer,
let him answer.
Joe Biden would answer.
And Trump sensed a lie.
And then Trump tried to cross-examine him.
Like, really, really?
And he kept shutting it down, shutting it down.
It's the same thing.
The same thing happened with Leslie Stahl
in the 60 Minutes interview.
We actually have that queued up, watch.
I think it's one of the biggest scandals I've ever seen.
And you don't cover it.
You want to talk about it.
Well, because it can't be verified.
You want to talk about insignificant things.
I'm telling you.
Of course it can be verified.
Excuse me, they found the laptop.
Leslie, Leslie.
It can't be verified.
What can't be verified?
The laptop.
Why do you say that?
Even the family hasn't, the family on the laptop.
He's gone into hiding.
For five days, he's gone into hiding.
He's preparing for your debate.
Oh, it's taken him five days to prepare.
I doubt it.
That was Trump's own clip.
Remember, he taped the full interview himself.
Nothing about that wound up in the 60 Minutes interview.
He released it.
Leslie Stahl, 60 Minutes,
saying they couldn't get into the laptop
because it hasn't been verified.
At that point, 100%, the FBI knew it was Hunter Biden's.
They had confirmed that 100%.
The media easily could have confirmed
if they had done two minutes of work,
as now all the media has verified that it's true.
And she wouldn't report on it, just saying can't be verified.
So this guy, I mean, you have to feel for Trump.
He tried.
He put himself out there with 60 Minutes, adversarial media,
on the debate stage, trying to raise it.
And at every turn, the answer from the left-wing press was,
no, you can't even talk about it.
That Leslie Stahl exchange as a journalist,
it's so embarrassing.
It's so embarrassing to just be a lapdog,
carrying water for, quote unquote, your guy,
insisting over and over this White House talking point,
well, Biden in there, but the Democratic talking point,
which was this can't be verified.
And Trump's very good, salient, logical, provable point was
the family hasn't even denied it.
And this has gotten us where we are.
To have a president on the world stage who,
I'm sure you saw his rambling, rambling speech in Vietnam,
not knowing whether it was day or night,
saying he needed to take a nap,
invoking his sort of John Wayne line
that he uses all the time.
It just, it's embarrassing and it projects weakness.
And I don't know why the party is taking so long with this.
I don't know why the electorate is sort of in this
sort of coma-like frame of acceptance,
like this is the best we can do.
Personally, I thought after Reagan,
we would never allow someone that mentally impaired
to continue to serve.
And that was well before the age of cell phones,
social media, we see and hear everything.
I think we deserve better.
I think we deserve a better choice,
but I think the media has a lot to answer for here.
Every day I wait to see if the White House press corps
is going to ask a relevant question.
