Taylor Swift leading nominee heading into MTV VMAs

Taylor swift is the leading nominee for tonight's video music awards with 11 nods her smash hit anti hero is nominated for the coveted video of the year award. The key menage is reprising her dual role from last year's emcee and performer tonight, she scored several nominations herself including for both artists of the year and video the year. Shakira and Sean Diddy Combs are slated to receive the top honorary awards of the night both will also perform in the show for the very first time in 2 decades. So we want to bring in. Dometi pongo joining us now he is a host for him for MTV who will be co-hosting the VMA's pre show you should see what all these letters look like. It's like a alphabet suit. Yeah, I'm happy to be on CBS. All right so Nicki Minaj Shakira and any are are only a few of several big names that will be performing who are the who are you most looking forward to seeing I'm sure everyone but some will sort of stand out. You know what I'm not even going to give you the politically correct answer. Okay, all right, you can see this did the performance of hip-hop he's a global icon award recipient this year and every time he hits the stage is responsible for so many artists bad boy artist people outside of the bad boy vertical so I'm sure he's going to have some surprise guests joining him on stage tonight. So I'm very much looking forward to who he brings out tonight. So what we're sort of burying the lead because there is a significant milestone tonight for the first time in VMA history, the artist of the year category features all female nominees right, you've got doja cat Carol G Nicki Minaj Shakira Beyonce and Taylor Swift. Taylor of course and Beyonce broke records with their summer tours. This is a stacked list of nominees. What do you who do you think is is the front runner for this win. I would not want to I just want to that significant milestone, it's funny that's a future is female the past female too because actually all of our video van guard award recipients and almost the past 15 years with the exception of Kanye West have all been female performance and think that missy Elliott Nicki Minaj is one that will so many different performances so Shakira is winning that video van guard this year so it's just a testament to who's dominating the music industry, but as far as that video of the year award category. I'm thinking that may actually artist of the year rather than artists of the year category, I'm thinking I might go to be on say you could also go to tease with so yeah, beyond that with neck and neck to the most powerful people in the music industry right now. Either way you're going to a whole lot of people upset. Yeah, that's and also going head to head in the show of summer category which is actually a fan voted category that folks can head to MTV dot com and vote for but Taylor Swift and beyonce's live performances have dominated these past few months and so it's hard to really tell who can win, but when you look at when I look at my time I I think the day is owned by beyonce I got a feeling, you're right. What about video of the year. Well that's a big one that you know you have some us and people mad at me for this one. But I really think video of the year should go to SZA for her song kill bill. A creative record she talks about you know, I might just kill my ex and then they flip it in the music video gives it a cinematic feel where her ex tries to kill her and she goes on a revenge questions like kill bill the movie there are anime references is one of the more creative videos that I've seen this year. You know the issue be very deserving of. So do let me ask you about something that I as somebody and every to you we both follow pop culture. People may not realize that some of the most like searing images and moments in pop culture history have happened at the VMA's like lady gaga wearing that meet dress or Miley Cyrus like who everybody knew is like a Disney, I guess like a Disney child star like twerking it up on the stage, he smears Britney Spears Madonna and yes, the world and of course my my favorite. I'm a let you finish, but the record of all time. I still want to my favorite moment in any category even in politics. So can we expect something freaky like that tonight. That's the thing glad you can't expect anything. We're planned except for maybe lady gaga's wardrobe. Never though what's actually going to happen and it's funny because when I go back and do this research. I'm like that happened. Even today guess what I said that today on that on CBS this morning, I said yeah, the Kanye West Taylor Swift Beyonce thing was via make it was like not I was the Grammys I was like not. Yeah, what about another. Yeah, exactly I am up in the wee hours of the morning and so often MTV is on and I see the videos that run at like 3 in the morning, I can guarantee it with these ladies taking the stage there will be there will be several moments that we will be talking. Yeah, it's definitely every year the awards do not disappoint and we've got Nicki Minaj in emceeing right that's the super freaky girl so yeah, I don't know what we might see but it's going to be a wild night.
