Chris Jones of the Kansas City Chiefs, still not in the building or in the facility, has
been holding out, looking for a brand new contract.
It has been reported now that it's like $84 million over three years is what Chris Jones
is looking for, but he is still holding out.
Andy Reid chit-chatted about it, and you could have heard a head coach say this exact thing
probably every single time anybody has ever held out of a training camp and then into
a season.
Andy Reid talking about his defensive player of the year finalist, Chris Jones, and his
contract situation.
Okay, so listen, and then Patrick Mahomes comes out and he starts speaking about it,
and you can clearly tell that Patrick Mahomes got the messaging from Andy Reid.
It is just like, hey, we are worried about who's here.
We cannot worry about who's not here.
We are moving forward.
Then you heard Travis Kelsey in a New Heights podcast go, Chris, will you come back?
You're kind of scaring me right now.
I thought we had plans to just go and get more Super Bowls, and I think what you heard
there through Travis Kelsey was whenever TJ Hawkinson signed his deal, and then Travis
Kelsey moved down the list of highest paid tight ends when everybody knows he's the best
in the game right now, especially with Patrick Mahomes, and he's a wide receiver, he's not
a tight end, and he's not even getting paid his top tight end, let alone where he should
be in the wide receiver ranks.
So he basically came out and said, hey, we're trying to get Super Bowls, this is kind of
the goal here.
You heard what Travis was thinking.
You know what Patrick's thinking.
He always says, I want a good team, I don't want to do that.
Then you hear this Chris Jones situation take place, and you hear Andy Reid, it sounds
like everybody's just like, hey bud, I thought we just were going to go be a dynasty here.
Come on.
And I appreciate that Chris Jones said, nope, I would like my money, I would like a little
bit of attention, and he's willing to hold out into it, but he's millions of dollars
into this thing.
I think they said if he was to hold out until like week eight, which he said he was, it'd
be like a $13 or $14 million hit or something like that.
But his new contract he wants is $84 million, so if you put that in comparison, I think
he would be willing to lose $14 million if you're going to gain $70 million, if that's
how you're thinking about it.
But I don't know if they've been in contact or how close they are, but there's a chance
this doesn't get done, and who knows if he's on the move out of Kansas City, and who would
want him?
Probably everybody.
Yeah, and because of the Tyreek deal, it feels like they definitely do want to keep him home,
right?
Because this situation with Tyreek happened last year, and then they couldn't come to
something, they traded him damn near the next day to Miami, so that's got to be at least
a good sign if you're a Chiefs fan, but there's no way he's playing on Thursday if he hasn't
been there all week, right?
No.
It doesn't sound like there's like good relationship status here, either.
What you heard Andy Reid say there was just like, yeah, so, you know?
Not thinking about it.
Yeah, not even.
Nope.
I think Shane Steichen had to kind of say the same thing about Jonathan Taylor there
towards the end.
It's like, yeah, we're just assuming that he is not with us because we're rolling into
football season.
I apologize, he didn't even say like, because you could put over Chris Jones, love Chris
Jones, could do that whole thing, but instead it's just like, none of us know why he's doing
what he's doing right now.
We hope they get a deal done, but it doesn't feel like it's happening, which is a shame.
He's a fucking great football player, and on Thursday night, there's going to be a lot
of eyes.
A lot.
A lot of eyes.
And he said he's going to win defense player of the year this year.
Not a bad way to start.
It appears as if we're nowhere near seeing him on a football field.
Well, and this is kind of what we talked about like a couple weeks ago.
Like, granted, this situation's different than the Bosa situation, but they're just
kind of saying like, you know, you just assumed it would get done because he's so good, but
then all of a sudden you wake up this morning and it's like, oh shit, like the NFL season
is here.
It's starting.
On Thursday, they're playing.
It's crazy that they've gone this long without actually getting something done, and who knows
if they think he's being unreasonable in how much he's asking for.
It doesn't sound like that's really necessarily the case because he's not asking to be the
top paid guy.
You know, he doesn't want to go over Aaron Donald, and he was a defensive player of the
year candidate, but it is just crazy that they've gotten to this point.
Now they've backed themselves into a corner where it's like, well, fuck yeah, he might
miss one week.
He might miss four weeks.
Like, we don't know.
He might be able to move.
I think Browns fans thought he was going to be a Brown this weekend.
Really?
I saw that trending on X at one point, is that they were making a play to make a move
for him.
I don't think Browns fans are the only ones that are like, hey, somebody should go snoop
around over there to see if Chris Jones is available because that changes your defense
entirely, especially with the modern NFL.
If you have an inside guy that can get to the backfield, that is a weapon.
That is why people are so expensive in there that can move and groove.
Eighty-four million.
I don't know how a lot of salary caps are sitting, but the contract gymnastics that
these people are able to do with the salary caps and everything, you can find it in there
and numerous teams could have.
Yeah, you can definitely find it.
And we talked about it with Bean when he traded for Diggs or whatever, that if there's smoke,
GMs are going to be calling.
So I assume there's a lot of GMs calling.
And you talked about it like it's a tough situation because what he's asking for isn't
asinine.
It puts him like second, third, overall highest paid defensive player with similar to TJ Watt
and Joey Bosa.
But like, yeah, when Travis Kelce and all of them aren't really weird, it makes it a
tough situation.
Yeah.
It's tough for him.
It is tough for him.
But we hope they'll figure it out, huh?
Yeah.
Good luck, Brett.
I want to see you on Thursday.
We'd like to see him play.
We would.
I'd like to see Chris Jones on a football field.
What would I?
Against that old line?
He can take this week off.
Oh.
Yeah.
He can take this week off.
Take the stand off.
Yes.
For the players.
That's right.
Just like donors pushing for Bosa.
Exactly.
We should stand together.
Have they talked about that much?
I haven't heard anything.
Me neither.
No updates over the weekend, I don't think.
No.
I thought he was, the report was that they expect him to play, but not that that was
confirmed whatsoever.
But I remember, what was it, 10 days ago, they were like, there was reports on the internet,
a deal is imminent in the next few days.
Yes.
And it's like, well, that's been the report for like, you know, like two months.
Whenever it gets to this amount of days away from season, probably going to get the deal
done.
So I didn't feel like we learned anything new.
Then those days passed, by the way.
And then now we're kind of creeping into a.
Soft tissue.
Wait a minute, what are you, six days?
Yeah.
It's game week.
We have six days here?
Six days.
Against the Steelers?
Yeah.
You got to worry about soft tissue injuries.
Like, that's not good.
Yeah.
You don't want to lose them for the whole season.
Even if you guys get a deal done, you're saying.
Yeah.
What are you going to run them out there and he pops a quad?
Don't want that.
That'd be foolish.
Can't have that.
Especially on.
By the way, this is going to be the year.
I'm excited that we're making this proclamation today.
I love it.
Okay.
This is going to be the year nobody's getting hurt.
Everyone's healthy.
Hell yeah, dude.
Nobody.
Huge news.
How cool is that?
It's pretty cool.
Thank God.
That's very big of you.
Well, it's not me.
No.
I'm just the voice.
It's coming.
Well, that's what I mean to let everyone know.
That's huge.
Yeah.
Thank you.
Yeah.
I just wanted to put it out there in the universe.
Yeah.
I just wanted to put it.
Football gods, let me know.
Hey.
Go ahead and relay the message.
Every joint, cool.
Every ligament, fine.
Every muscle, pliable.
That's right.
Okay.
That's what you said to me.
Now, I don't know which football god is chatting with me, if that is their department or not,
but I got a good feeling about this year with injuries.
We're going to be good, baby.
Hell yeah.
Thank God.
We're going to be good.
Healthy team.
Hell yeah.
Put that in the universe one time.
No injuries ever.
That would be fucking fantastic.
