Welcome to the Epoch Times Vietnamese radio program on life and health.
Today, we are pleased to present to you the writings of two writers, Zsuzsanna Ivan-Santini and Charles Mellstrup,
with the theme, Is mental health under your control?
The article was translated by author Khanh Nam from the original Epoch Times.
Let's listen to it together.
People have been struggling with poor mental health and mental disorders around the world for the past few decades.
Those who are having difficulties are getting more and more difficult in accessing treatment because they have to wait many months in line,
even when they are well-equipped to be treated.
It is clear that the ability to access treatment measures needs to be improved even more.
But that does not mean that everyone has to struggle with mental health.
In fact, we can do a lot of things ourselves to maintain mental health, even prevent mental illnesses from appearing.
According to our recent research, one of the ways is simply to believe that you can do it.
In recent research, we asked 3,015 adults in Denmark to answer questions about mental health.
For example, do they believe that health can do something to have a strong mental state?
Have they done anything in the last two weeks to support mental health?
And are they struggling to solve mental health-related problems?
Then, we will evaluate their mental health levels by using the Warren Schellenberg mental health scale,
a simplified version of the scale that is being used by health experts.
As you expect, we see that those who have done everything to improve their mental health
will be the ones with the best mental health compared to the rest of the participants.
However, the interesting thing is that we also found that
whether the participants really acted to improve their mental health or not,
those who believe that they can do something to keep their mental health strong
will tend to have better mental health than those who do not believe so.
Therefore, although the best way to improve mental health is to do it step by step,
but even just believing that you can improve your mental health
is already a big impact, better than the overall mental health.
Although our research does not consider the reasons for explaining
the link between belief and mental health improvement,
but can explain this with a psychological concept called the health control point.
According to this concept, those who have an inner control point believe that
their attitude and behavior will control their health.
Conversely, those who have an external control point believe that
their mental health is largely controlled by factors or external circumstances in their control.
The internal health control point will affect the way people see,
live, or deal with their consciousness.
The internal health control point also affects mental health.
Previous research has shown that the link between this belief
and having less symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress
explains why those who participate in the research believe that
they can do something to change their mental health
will also have better mental health.
This discovery itself has shown that the potential of disease prevention is very large for everyone.
Because mental health is better, there is a lower risk of developmental disorders
from 69% to 90%.
We know that there are many simple things that people can do every day
to help and even improve their mental health.
This is why we promote the ABC campaign,
