It's been another thrilling weekend in the Premier League with Arsenal leaving it late to
beat Manchester United and it's left more questions for Eric ten Haag who's now lost a way at both
North London clubs this season. Let's get more on that with Jamie O'Hara. I know you're keen to
talk about Arsenal winning, Jamie. Good afternoon to you. You well? Yep, I'm really good being
Arsenal's finalist. Oh you're going in and out like the tide as my mum would say but we'll
stick with it. Hopefully I can hear you. Look, the United boss revealed after the game that
Jadon Sancho wasn't in the squad because of his training performance and that of course led him
to taking to social media to say it's completely untrue and saying that he's been made a scapegoat.
What do you make of his reaction first and foremost? Well look, as a player it's a difficult
one because you have social media and you can have your say and I think that the issue that
you've got is, you know, he wants to talk and he wants to say and the manager will come out and
interview and have his say and then it can kind of go a little bit downhill when both people are
saying different things. They're obviously not on the same wavelength in terms of what they think's
right and the manager has decided to, you know, come out publicly and say he's not ready for
training. I feel for Jadon Sancho a little bit. I think he's being treated a little bit unfairly.
He's obviously trying to do what he can to get in the squad and it's not enough.
Social media is a big thing now for footballers. Yeah it's interesting isn't it? I mean do you feel
this might end badly for Sancho but kind of he's, like you say, he's kind of only giving his say
as Eric Ten Hard has had his word as well. Yeah look the difference is Vicky is back in the day
there wasn't social media so managers could come out and say what they wanted about players
and unless the player done an interview they wouldn't, they wasn't able to say anything.
Now the players have got social media, they can put out a statement, they can put out what they
want and it puts his side of the story out there. Now he's a grown man, he's an adult,
you know, he's put a statement out there which, you know, says what he thinks is right and it
doesn't feel like he's been treated fairly and now I can kind of understand where he's
gone for a difficult time Jadon Sancho and Eric Ten Hard really has dug him out and saying that,
you know, he's not involved because of his training ability. I think that's not right.
I guarantee you Jadon Sancho is a top player and he's trying his best to get in the team.
He's low on confidence, he's low on belief. What he needs probably is an arm around his
shoulder from the manager and probably giving him a chance to get in the team because let's be honest
Garnaccio ain't great, Anthony's been terrible and, you know, apart from Rashford turning up for
the rest of them have been absolutely shocking apart from Bruno Fernandes.
The rest of them have not been good enough so Jadon Sancho's probably sat there thinking,
well hold on a minute, you're digging me out saying I've not been good enough. Well,
look at the state of the team. You got absolutely pumped by Arsenal yesterday,
you got beat by Tottenham. Where's his fair opportunity, where's his chance? Anthony's
not been good enough but he still plays so Jadon Sancho's probably looking at saying I want to run
in the team. Give me time to make some mistakes but he plays and doesn't get a look in.
Is this an interesting tactic do you think from Eric ten Haag or is he just being honest as well
because of course he's in under scrutiny as well? Yeah, look, he's under scrutiny for sure. He's a
Manchester United manager, it's the biggest job in the world. So, you know, if you're going to
make mistakes I don't think you should ever come out publicly criticise a player about training.
If the public have seen a player make mistakes on a football pitch, you've seen it,
then fair enough, you know, because that's there for everyone to see. So, yeah, he made a mistake
today. But what happens behind closed doors should stay behind closed doors. If he's not
training well then that's down to him and the manager and the coaching team to get him right.
Don't come out publicly and dig him out when no one else has seen that. Only he's seen that
and the players at Manchester United and that for me is that's where Manchester United have
got it wrong. You shouldn't come out and talk about things that happen behind closed doors.
Keep it quiet, keep it between yourselves and sort it out in-house. And what he's done
opened up a massive problem because Jadon Sancho has reacted, rightly, if he feels like he is
training well and he comes out and has his say. That's what social media is these days.
People have a platform and footballers will say what they think.
