MLB Now speaks about the Brewers playoff hopes in the National League, Mookie Betts being the favorite for NL MVP and the Braves' offense
#sports
All right welcome Cliff Floyd to
the showdown right here.
Now let's remember like we're
not signed you back in the day
you gave me the cheese you gave
me that back.
I can't really debate you.
OK good.
I appreciate that.
All right.
So I think that certainly with
the Braves and Dodgers class in
the National League but I'm
telling you I think the
Milwaukee Brewers could take
down either one or both of those
teams.
Corbin Burns Brandon Woodruff
really in Freddy Peralta with
Devin Williams at the end of the
game.
They don't score a lot.
They'd have to score enough but
good pitching can shut down good
offense.
The Brewers would be a tough
matchup in the play.
I do agree with the fact that
they do have some stud pitching
you know across the board.
Adrian Houser was you know
phenomenal.
And when you sweep a team like
the Rangers you have to play
good baseball.
And that's what they just did.
I get that.
But I just saw the Braves a
couple of weeks ago against the
Cubs.
And I thought to myself you
it's going to be tough to beat
them consistently especially in
a series.
They have too many good hitters
and I know good pitching at
times to stop good hitting.
And we're seeing a lot of
pitching with the Brewers right
now.
But you made a great point.
If you don't score enough runs
then I think that pitching has
to be exceptional.
It has to be amazing.
And while they can do that
that's pressure.
And so I think the offense have
scored enough.
One big thing is Christian
Yellows has been healthy the
whole season.
Right.
But I'm going to go back to the
Braves real quick.
That lineup is one of the most
dominant lineups I've seen in a
long time.
Like I play on some really good
ones.
But when you have this do at the
top of your order and the Cunha
and the bottom half because I
was worried about Rosario.
I was like well you know what.
Where is you know that hole.
And now he's hot.
Ozuna's hitting the ball the
ballpark.
I mean they have so many ways to
beat you and they put so much
pressure on you in the first
inning.
It's not like wait around.
They don't wait around.
They like take the fire to you
in the first couple of innings.
And it's going to be tough to
beat them.
You're going to have to really
truly have your best stuff to
beat them in a city.
They have five hitters with
twenty five home runs more.
They may end up with five with
thirty or more before the
season's over.
Yet good pitching can shut down
the good offense.
Yeah it's going to be tough
though.
I get it.
But the brave starting pitching
at times has been a little
shaky.
Strider's not quite the same guy
he was early Max Fried coming
back.
Who would be that number three.
Is it Elder Morton.
You wonder how that slots in
there.
So we'll see for Atlanta.
Well I think the biggest thing
is you have that luxury right.
And if you Brian Snicker the one
thing you count on is getting a
guy like Max Fried.
You need arms and you need as
many as you can possibly get.
We've seen that throughout the
years of just sitting there and
watching playoff baseball even
contending type baseball down
the stretch.
If you can get a guy like a you
know you didn't have to trade
for Max.
That was your that was your
trade deadline acquisition
right.
Getting him back healthy for
sure.
And out there you know there's
there's holes in everything
adversity on every team.
But when you talk about
consistent I just think they put
too much pressure on that
opposing pitcher to where you
look if you beat him hats off to
you because it's a crazy line.
Well you mentioned about the
Atlanta Braves in the first
inning how dominant they've
been.
Acuna Junior setting power speed
record seemingly every day.
Yeah.
Is there any way he's not the
MVP because power speed batting
average you name it.
He's at the top of almost every
category war.
He is MVP.
You know I'm going to have to
say Paul's for one second.
When we look at this board and
you look at not only his
teammate but those dudes out
West and you can give a love to
Freddie Freeman.
I'm going to go Mookie Betts a
little bit.
When you look at the numbers you
can see for yourself why you
know you have to pause.
Why do love Acuna Junior.
I just feel like Mookie Betts is
in a position when you talk
about clutch plus to me is
hitting runs and scoring
position getting big timely hits.
Of course he has the homers and
thirty four homers but he's
versatile.
He can play second short
outfield.
I'm selling you a little bit I
think.
And the most important thing
when I say clutch he's hitting
three seventy two runners on
scoring position.
You can't be more close than
what Mookie's been doing.
So look Acuna Junior absolutely
been dominant.
I mean setting records and I get
it.
But when you talk about let it
let it be a little closer than
you know a landslide of Acuna
running away because Mookie
Freddie we just saw the Mookie
my man is out there doing he's
doing it.
But at the first thing the thing
that separates the Braves from
every other team is their
dominance in the first inning.
They have score everybody and
they give up the fewest runs as
well.
Take a look at the two guys in
the first inning right there
what Acuna is doing with the
batting average.
Now Mookie's got some home runs
right.
The leadoff home runs some.
Yeah he's got a few one.
He won nothing in the first
inning six.
No one nothing.
Who's got more run scored
between the two of them.
Thirty seven to twenty nine.
OK the overall numbers a
distinct and significant
advantage for Ronald Acuna
Junior.
And that's the difference between
the Atlanta Braves everybody
else.
They get out to that early lead
and it changes the game.
The bats are different.
The innings pitch they're
different.
Everything's different.
Ronald Acuna Junior run away.
I won't say run away.
You can't say run away.
Stolen bases I get I win.
He stole a base.
Freddie Freeman has doubled the
stolen bases that Mookie has.
I have to give you that one.
Look I can't.
I call a spade a spade.
I give you that.
I'm just saying when you look at
it that's what I say run away
that looks I want.
I want somebody driving this
truck.
Ain't no run away.
You don't just let it go down
the highway by itself.
Like I mean you know you're
pushing back a little hard
considering how much I hooked
you up with that.
Well I'm just saying you said
run away.
Mookie is not a run away.
