Marble Canyon to Horseshoe Bay

Okay, I didn't get to finish my willow tree story and Okay, so I took I turned heading towards Cache Creek I left Willow Springs Resort It's very But And I turned right on 99 Avenue Just went through a First Nations reservation, and this is a BC Park called marble something, but it's right on a little lake here It's really cute. It's not a little lake Okay, so it's just right off Tent sites right on like this little lake here. So this is this is a really cute little stopping spot Next time I'll stop here But if you look at the trees in the water and the signpost in the water something doesn't quite look right, right Okay, normally this time of year the water is lower So obviously right now the water is higher than So I'm not sure what's going on. Maybe this is very late by a damn. Oh, there's a couple kayakers here This is this is a nice little stopping spot like if you're traveling Up and down this is a nice stopping spot Next time it's by dock Oh, what the heck was that was that a fish Wasn't a seal I don't think I haven't seen any seals up in the lakes up here usually the Fraser Seal swim with the Fraser for the Sam even on the Harrison Lake. You'll see the seals Sure what that was look like a seals head, but I think it was a fish Anyways, this is I forget marble something but this is if you coming back from Lackawash. This is probably a No, I didn't I came straight from I Came straight from Bowen Lake. That's right. I blew past So this would be a good stopping spot Marble Canyon Provincial campgrounds, that's what it's called Spot There was a just just up the road On the First Nations reservation. There was some mining going on Strip mining a mountain. I was gonna stop and I had mixed feelings about it. It was Michael back at step It's weird. It's like the whole side of the mountain was like like stairs They were cutting into it. So I guess sir Maybe they're looking for marble. I don't know what they're looking for. But They're kind of literally removing a mountain to mine it I don't know Mixed feelings, you know Talk about open pit mines and turning Turning mountains into an open pit mine. I Don't know This must be three little lakes in here Turquoise One it says it's supposed to be groundwater fed Which is very interesting. I've never heard of that before a groundwater fed lake. Like I've heard of groundwater like The origin is groundwater I think so if the origin of this lake is groundwater Now coming all of a sudden is higher than normally the water table is higher than normal now, it's I know it's interesting There's three little lakes here one is Turquoise Lake and they say it's high Pablo Blake is high in Limestone Very interesting Rock formations in that lake underwater that they have pictures of which is Kind of strange because when you go cave inside caves all the slight types of limestone I think And that's kind of what those pictures look like in the water That was Pavlino Lake. I think this is Crown Lake and there's Turquoise Lake. I think I don't know Stop off on your journey And those big peaks up there they said it's it's Poplar with rock climbers and ice climbers You're gonna climb that Ice climb that face. It's like ice climbing a waterfall. Well good on you Yeah, I don't know if people rock climb or ice climb those peaks but that would be impressive I Yeah, this is all Pavlion Lake supposed to be ground-fed very deep at points Okay, this is highway 99 from Clinton to Lillooet And it's it's interesting to note how the I mean the geography Changes through the caribou to the Okanagan to here It's interesting now another interesting thing is is that there's a guy at the gym he rides a touring Harley and sometimes he would go up the Fraser Canyon past Past Hell's Gate Up past Luton, Cache Creek Down here to the Lillooet and then down through Pemberton Squamish, Sea to Sky back to Vancouver and That's a really nice loop It's a nice ride Like he does that in a day. I'd kind of I don't know I'd kind of like to stop You could even you could do that whole thing and just stop at that marble Marble Canyon campsite you could just like do it overnighter. That would be a wonderful trip you know, I mean the whole thing about this thing is is Riding moving going getting out of the 15-minute city and using your brain thinking outside the box. This is it Landscape Yeah, this must be a tributary to the And that's it girls It just went in there was a whole bunch of them. I guess one guy hit But I took a picture of it before I took a video and there was a whole bunch of them That's why they get hit because they're kind of slow. They're not the smartest This is the Fraser River right on the side of the Lillooet Okay, that sign says we're 4k outside of Lillooet So 4k outside of Lillooet on Highway 99 on the way to Clinton and Cache Creek There's a campground Fraser Cove Right down through around here. I'm not driving down there. I'm tired. I gotta start blowing back to the to the ferry This is nice because it's right on That's the road that takes you to the campground So that would probably be a nice place to camp Okay, this is amusing. I don't know what kind of yes, they look like grapes Not 100% sure. Yeah, it looks like grapes. I'm not 100% sure what kind of crop that is Look at that nice window What's wrong with this picture? It's not turning if it's not turning it doesn't generate electricity Just like the windmill on top of Gross Mountain, it looks great. It's a great tourist site, but it doesn't turn. Oh Hmm Now what is that soaring? Is that an eagle or a hawk? There's two of them All right, this is Seton Lake right at Lillooet says BC Hydro, so it must be a dam of some kind But just suffice to say that there's lots of camping in Lillooet. I got time to check it off I gotta stop making stops and I just start blowing by things But yeah, so we're at Lillooet heading down to Pemberton and Passing through Whistler. I forgot about Whistler. Everyone knows about Whistler. So we're gonna blow past that. Oh wow, grizzly bears in Lillooet So be careful where you camp then. I guess you gotta I know in Lake Louise they have Grizzly bears and they have electric fences around Electric grizzly bears are a completely different league than black bears, so I don't mess with grizzly bears Anyways, the geography has changed slightly As we start getting down towards Pemberton and Whistler And our familiar homeland of sea to sky to the ferry Highway 99 from Lillooet to Pemberton steep windy roads I hear water down there, but that's a steep canyon Changes in the terrain this is still the road to Lillooet to Pemberton. Yeah, there's a slide behind us And it's right beside I should have stopped a little bit further up it was right or I'm right beside a rolling Creek Beautiful ride very scenic All right. This is the Creek that Wines beside the road or the road that winds beside the Creek Very nice very scenic this is the real world So this is Duffy Lake Another view of Duffy Lake on the way to Pemberton from Lillooet And now the coastal mountains we're getting closer to home We're at Pemberton then there's Whistler and Squamish Sea to sky That's my crib. We're gonna skip by that when we hit the ferry and go to the Sunshine Coast Someone's still got snow Whistler Seymour Cypress grouse, they're all bare bare bare. They're ski runs that glaciers. They're they they're they're bare for hiking in In the summer and they got snow on them for skiing in the winter Baker The ski hill same story, but the glacier the glacier stays frozen all year round It's starting to melt and get crevices and blah blah blah But Pemberton is home of the ice fields So maybe this is this is part of Pemberton, I guess Nice ice fields is I'm gonna stop at the trail there you go up. It's for snowmobiling snowmobiling the ice fields That's on my bucket list. I Was like same thing like like the road up to Baker Glacier Creek Road, it's just it's more for real drive Here we are live and large IRL in real life Okay, this is Joffrey Lake Lakes You're supposed to pre-register for a day pass to visit I guess the biggest lake is just like about five or ten minute walk in But then there's three two other lakes that you hike into and those ones are a little bit more. No, sorry the smaller lakes closer Lower lake is closer. The bigger lake is far away and I guess this is kind of like Your Baldy Lake very popular very intense you hike in to the campsite a long way But what's cool about this is there's one lake to like another big upper lake and there's a glacier out there so you're up in the glacier similar to Garibaldi because Garibaldi Lake is right by a glacier as well beautiful area beautiful area intense hike with the pack All right, scratch that Garibaldi Lake is more intense This one to get to the top upper lake near the glacier a roughly two and a half hours Now you can add on to it that's what Ranger Rick said so two and a half hours So you could do a round trip in the day that's Yeah, yeah you could do that but anyways you could hike up to and camp up there and That would be beautiful. Absolutely beautiful. Just It'd be good because Garibaldi Lake sells out even though it's a massive hike with massive elevation This is not as long and not as much elevations Garibaldi Lake, but I think this would be pretty cool It's on the bucket list Okay, I just passed by a turn that said Lillooet Lake Lodge That thing looks massive So I had a gravel road I didn't go down it and I'm kind of pushing for time I gotta find a campsite site because this is the long weekend I gotta find somewhere that I can camp along the way. I'm not gonna make it to the ferry Anyways Lillooet Lake There's a Lillooet Lake Lodge, so that looks like a very nice place as well Yeah, I stopped here I'm not supposed to stop we're just entering Whistler I I'm gonna do a drive-by at Whistler because there's no camping there. There's lots to do at Whistler. Whistler is a wonderful place lots of hiking lots of restaurants, lots of high-end hotels lots of partying lots and lots And this is like a free-for-all bike ramp That's actually a really smart idea Whistler RV park and campgrounds Booked like everywhere else. It's the August long weekend bad planning But that's okay My luggage rack is about to fall off my bike. So I might have to spend the night at home We'll see. We'll just keep going. We're right close to Brandywine Falls now so With the traffic going into Whistler it was like bumper to bumper It was like Whistler is a very busy place wonderful place, but a little too high-end a little too busy for me I like to take off the beagle track I recognize that people just coming south just before Brandywine Falls We all know what that is That's Black Tusk Very iconic Black Tusk Black Tusk is right by Garibaldi Beside Garibaldi It's a nice hike I hiked right at the Right beside the base of the cone There's a lot of High slate Slippery slate There's a lot of high slippery slate So I didn't It's not a story But I did I did Panorama Ridge, I did Black Tusk And Garibaldi Lake Beautiful place This is just upstream from the falls Okay, that's another shot of Black Tusk One was just before Brandywine Falls This one's just after If you're coming south, if you're coming north This is right before Brandywine Falls But you can't see it Because it's, you're facing the other direction You can only see it when you're going south After you leave Anyways, that's Black Tusk There it is I think this is the Chicken Missus That's the river that runs Beside the Sea to Sky Highway Going up Brandywine Falls Going into Squamish Hell's Gate All that was really Coming down Especially It says Tantalus Lookout I'm not familiar with that peak It says there's snow, there's glacier Summer It says elevation 320 meters, which is 10,050 feet So 10,000 feet So that's pretty high So when I did the weather check for Baker The night before I went It said the weather at 9,000 feet And I was like, what the hell? The local ski hills are like 3,000 feet And this one is 10,000 feet The weather forecast for Baker was at 9,000 feet I'm not sure what the summit is But I'll have to check Anyways, we do have a couple of glaciers in Canada I guess in the Rockies there's lots We just don't have glaciers Or high elevations in Central Vancouver But we've got a ton of ski hills We're at Alice Lake And look behold Skunk Cabbage That's very typical Of the valley where I grew up And lots of Cedar trees Lots of people in the area The campground is full Alright, this is Alice Lake Not that big Very popular day area I always used to see the sign When we went to Paradise Valley I guess that's the campground Beach on the other side This is the day area It's nice But not nice enough We just passed by Brackendale Which is just outside of Squamish They call it the bald eagle capital Of North America You'll see the bald eagles From December 15th To January 15th The eagles come here To the river The eagles brought in The salmon carcasses It's the same in Harrison You'll see them there November 15th For a couple of weeks Tons of eagles But anyways This is the turn off to Squamish Squamish is a really nice city Oh I guess the next traffic light Is the information centre It's a really good information centre And just past that on the right On your way to Oh and you can see In the background There's the famous chief I've heard some people scale the face I've never seen anyone do it Everyone else takes the trail It's really popular And it's beautiful You get the same view And right beside that Is the Cedar Sky Gondola Which I've talked about Many times before And On the other side of that is Shannon Falls Where we started off At Vidaldale Falls Ran up the canyon around And now we're coming down the other side To Shannon Falls And Oh yeah So this is the turn off towards Squamish But if you keep going on the right hand side Not in the town But just on the outskirts There's a very popular Mexican restaurant Where everyone goes to To get quesadillas or whatever you want So if you're coming up to Squamish You're going to see the Sky Gondola It's wonderful The food in the restaurant is a bit pricey The Mexican restaurant Just on the outskirts of town Is much better value But do what you choose It's all good Alright so Sunny Chibas Is the name of that very popular Mexican restaurant I just got to go for quesadillas Sunny Chibas Right on the radar Yeah my lock bolt is holding But the whole luggage rack Is almost ready to fall off So I've got to go home and fix it So we're going to drive by The chief Drive by the gondolas Drive by Shannon Falls The next stop will be Horseshoe Bay Before we take the ferry To Sunshine Coast But I'm going to stop there Go home for the night And fix my bike I'm going to resume From Horseshoe Bay Across to Sechelt And Gibson Sechelt Which is called Sunshine Coast Take another ferry Check out the lake The kayaking lake trip they have there And we're going to Lund Just past Lund To the marine water park And the Sunshine Coast trails To check out the sea kayaking So there we are Ok and this is a view of the other side Of the chief From Shannon Falls Oh if you look closely You can see some gondolas So you see the chief The gondola And Shannon Falls They're all very close together And we saw the face of the chief And you can see the back The trail goes around that It's a trail like the Grosse Grinde Maybe not quite as steep A little bit longer Switchbacks and what not I've hiked it many times But the chief The gondola goes up beside the chief To a different peak And they have a really nice restaurant up there You can get all kinds of stuff And you can also go On other hikes Like from If you take the gondola up You can go to Skypie Which is a full day hike And it's cool because Near the summit they have Chain hooks Implanted into the rock So you can rappel down It's kind of cool Anyways we started off at Bridal Veil Falls Now this is on the way up And on the way down this is Shannon Falls And this is Shannon Falls Right beside the gondola And the chief So from Bridal Falls Up to Fraser Canyon To Shannon Falls Down the Sea to Sky The Sea to Sky Highway From Squamish to Vancouver to Horseshoe Bay And then on to Vancouver It doesn't run beside a river Like it does from Squamish To Everton From Squamish to Horseshoe Bay to Vancouver The Sea to Ski Highway Runs beside the ocean Now this is the inlet It's not salt water The inlet comes all the way up To Squamish where the mouth Of the Chickamas River So this is all salt water This is part of the inlet From Squamish to Horseshoe Bay To Vancouver So this is what they call Britannia Beach Just down the way here There's a really nice Diving spot White Cliff is one But I forget what it's called We're going to go past it Just past Britannia Beach When you're coming back down There's a really good diving spot I think there's a campsite there too And that's Britannia Mines It's a mining museum Kind of a tourist thing So here we are This is This part of the journey is my home This is where I'm from This is where I grew up When we started we broke trail As soon as we went past Hell's Gate That was new territory for me I hadn't really been up there I was really excited to see Barkerville and Wells And Arran Lakes for the first time That was the first time I saw it I've lived in BC all my life So that was nice to see See there's a couple of paddle boarders out there And So coming back Going up the Fraser Canyon And then down to see the sky That's a very scenic route Very little bikes take that Very scenic route Yeah I didn't want to Take this break I wanted to go straight on the ferry But the long weekend I didn't kind of throw a wrench In the plans Because All the campsites are full Which is kind of irritating That's why it's nicer when you're off the grid And you're in the backcountry You don't have to worry about every single campsite being full But I kind of got in the mode Of traveling Camping travel, camping travel, camping travel Kind of got in the mode of going off the grid And putting the blog away And putting the internet away It's nice Porto Cole That's the place It's a popular diving spot And it's packed Popular day area Popular site Boat launch Zodiac Horseshoe Bay All the way up here It was nice Didn't see any whales More on the island This is the boat launch One of these peaks You can see the back of We're coming up to the back of the lions And the back of Cyprus Well we made it home for a pit stop And I was keeping a close eye On my rearview mirror This back Because this thing was ready to fall off That back thing Is just completely screwed I don't know It's just bent I don't know What I'm going to do I have to fix it And the aftermarket Cheap one off of Amazon Was not a wise choice Even the leather saddle bags I mean it's cool The Wild West Throw them over your seat Like a horse The fixed Boxes Are just way better And if I go on a long trip Like to Alaska I can't be screwing around with stuff like this Anyways It's a good test run And the test run is not over yet We just did the first loop And the Sunshine Coast one will be next And I'll just have to fix some stuff up And figure out How we're going to do it Yeah that's not good That whole thing is just I don't know I'll figure something out
