Game Pass Savings:
Everyone has been extolling the virtues of Xbox Game Pass the past year in terms of it being a great value for Xbox fans. But exactly how great of a value? That’s now been calculated by The Loadout, a site that did the math and says that in 2021, Xbox Game Pass added games that in total, add up to $6,317.35, based on Microsoft Store prices.

While Game Pass is known for its higher profile offerings, and may feel like you’re saving $60 here and there for must-haves like Forza Horizon 5 or the Halo Infinite campaign, its catalogue is a lot deeper than that, hence the thousands of dollars in value added this year alone.

However, while it’s a big number, this way of looking at a subscription service seems a little bit dated. I can’t remember anyone calculating how much say, Netflix offers with streaming as opposed to what it could cost to buy or rent every TV season box set or blu-ray movie that’s offered there. Netflix, at $15 a month, would probably produce a total that is miles beyond $6,300 in total “value” with thousands of movies and shows in its depths.

Goldeneye Leak
After years of campaigning and whispers, it looks like Rare's beloved GoldenEye 007 is finally coming to modern systems. Now, the internet has turned up a potential GoldenEye 007 port for Xbox.

Helping define the FPS genre back in 1997, GoldenEye 007 was a pretty faithful retelling of Martin Campbell's GoldenEye from 1995 - except with Oddjob and a Golden Gun. While it was originally a Nintendo exclusive, the fact Microsoft now owns Rare has led to plenty of speculation.

GWG
NeuroVoider (January 1-31)
Aground (January 16-February 15)
Radiant Silvergun (January 1-15)
Space Invaders Infinity Gene (January 16-31)
The games are available with both an Xbox Live Gold subscription and an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscription, with the first two being Xbox One games and the latter two being Xbox 360 games--all will work on Xbox Series X|S, as well. Game Pass continues to grow, and it will be getting future games like Sniper Elite 5 on launch day. You can get some of December's free games now before they expire, as well, including Tropico 5 and The Escapists 2.

Radiant Silvergun is one of Treasure's most acclaimed shooters, first launching in arcades and on the Sega Saturn and serving as the predecessor to Ikaruga. Space Invaders Infinity Gene, meanwhile, is a cerebral take on the series that's comparable to something like Tetris Effect.

Series S+
Some are hoping that an Xbox Series S with a disc drive will release with a pricepoint somewhere between the digital-only Series S and the Series X. Unfortunately, there haven’t been any discussions of a new Xbox Series X|S model. Furthermore, given supply issues, Microsoft cannot meet the demand for its current SKUs.

It’s possible that a cheaper model with a disc drive could be released during the mid-life refresh of the consoles. But, for now, we highly doubt there’ll be any announcements regarding a Series S with a disc drive. Microsoft targeted the price ranges it wanted to with these consoles, and there’s no reason for them to add a third to the lineup.
