What to do with New Xbox
Congratulations, you got a next-gen console. It’s hard to believe that over a year after the launch of the Xbox Series X/S, it’s still so damn hard to find one. But you did it. Or someone who really loves you did and gifted it to you for the holidays. How nice of them! Either way, now that you got a new Xbox, you might be wondering what to do with it, or perhaps you just want some useful tips to get up and running so you can start playing great games like Halo Infinite as soon as possible. Kotaku’s here to help!

January Game Pass
What's coming to Xbox Game Pass in January 2022?

There will likely be tonnes of additions to Xbox Game Pass in January 2022 but we only know a few so far.

The first is Anacrusis, a four player co-op shooter. Set on a stranded starship, you have to fight against hordes of aliens to make your way through it. This is sure to be great with friends. This will arrive on January 13th, its release.

After this is Windjammers 2, a sequel to the 1994 arcade game Windjammers. This is a bit of a fun addition and will release on day one, January 20th.

Buy a Series S
When the new console generation started about a year ago, I was pretty content with just my PS5. I have a pretty powerful gaming PC that can play all the latest Microsoft games, so there was no practical reason for me to get an Xbox Series X. But there was something about the smaller, cheaper Xbox Series S that kept calling to me, even if I didn’t need one. And when I decided to treat myself to one earlier this year, it wasn’t long before the most basic current-gen console became my favorite.

Even with the more capable PS5 at my disposal, the Series S is the console I use the most — and it does enough right that I don’t feel a need to upgrade to the mightier Series X just yet. And while folks all over are still frantically refreshing their browsers in hopes of scoring an elusive PS5 or Xbox Series X during restocks, the Series S is abundantly available on most store shelves.

For all of those reasons — and a few others — the Xbox Series S is the console I recommend to most folks. Let me break down why.

2022 Series S Games
Microsoft had a remarkable 2021, but you wouldn’t know it by looking at a list of Xbox games released this year. Series X/S owners only got two high-profile exclusives in Forza Horizon 5 and Halo Infinite (which just so happened to be two of this year’s best titles). Instead, Microsoft focused on rewriting the rules of console success by landing multiple wins for Xbox Game Pass. Subscribers got games like Outriders at launch and even managed to get Sony’s MLB The Show 21 on day one.

Microsoft simply isn’t as invested in console-selling exclusives as it is in adding value to Game Pass. Strong third-party support is the core of Microsoft’s vision, making the Series X an obvious choice for those who play a lot of different games.

But 2022 is looking a little different. Microsoft has a few big exclusives up its sleeve thanks to its game-changing Bethesda acquisition. Here are some of the titles Xbox Series X owners can look forward to this year.
