Rescued Ladybird Raids Ant’s Aphid Farm

This mini-beast drama took place while I was picking blackcurrants in our garden. The ladybird fell into my basket of currants. When I placed it back on the plant it rushed straight for an aphid farm which was being guarded by a single ant. The valiant ant eventually saw the ladybird off, but only after the ladybird had taken a prized aphid from the ant farmer!

From my perspective ladybirds are wonderful to see in the garden because they love aphids so much. I’ve never looked at it from the ant’s point of view before!
