Our total cost for the month was...
Did I mention there's a swimming pool?
Hey guys, I'm Ross and Beck is behind the camera doing all the amazing work.
Now for those of you that are new here, we travel full-time.
We quit our jobs in Australia.
We've put everything we own into a storage container and we travel the world.
We work online doing freelance work and that pays our way.
Now we love food, so we want to share that with all of you guys.
And travel tips too.
So as we go everywhere, we'll always do a cost of living video
and every week we're going to drop one, maybe two videos
that are either food or travel tip related.
So keep your eyes peeled for those.
All right, Malaysia.
So we've spent over a month now.
We're actually on our last day and I'm pretty sad because I love this place.
I've actually fallen in love with it and Beck has too.
So to cover off our cost of living in Malaysia,
we've got seven categories that we think are important
and two additional categories that I hope will help all of you on your travels as well.
So hang out for those at the end.
Now before we start guys, this is what it costs us.
So yes, some people spend a lot less and some people will want to spend a lot more too.
But we've lived really comfortably in Malaysia.
We've also lived really comfortable in Bali and in Vietnam so far.
So if you haven't seen those videos, check them out
and you can see what it really does cost us.
Now we travel for one month blocks at a time.
We always go to a city and stay for one month.
It helps us with our work,
but also you get a massive discount when you book for more than 28 days.
Now we've been pretty spoiled in Kuala Lumpur.
We have a swimming pool, a sauna that's amazing,
a gym, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen
and a view of half of the city that's just mind-bending.
And being here at Chinese New Year, we've just seen fireworks and things popping off everywhere.
The whole city just comes to life and you get to see that every night.
It's really, really cool.
Now total cost for accommodation was 3,040 RM.
Breakfast and lunch.
We would go to the supermarket and just top up for the week
and make sure that we've got lots of breakfast stuff
and lunch stuff all in the fridge ready to go.
So that's been really easy.
It's such a hot city, KL, that in the middle of the day,
you just want to be working.
Get your work done, eat some food and just be ready to go for the evening.
So that's what we've been doing anyway.
So our total cost there was 604 RM.
Dinners.
All right, a bit different here.
We would head out most nights.
We were spoiled for choice.
There's so many spots everywhere.
I'll talk about transport in a minute.
But we would just catch a grab to wherever we want to go
and we would review lots of blogs and different spots that are highly recommended.
So getting around.
A bit different to Bali and Vietnam.
No scooters happening here.
The roads are very hectic.
A lot of cars.
Everyone would drive around in a car or they're catching taxis or grabs.
You can catch public transport,
but you really have to be lucky and stay right near one of the train stations.
And if you're not near there, it's just too hard to organize.
So we catch grabs.
And to get into the city, we're out in the suburbs a little bit,
maybe 10 minutes out from the city.
The cost to get in there is around 10 RM per trip.
So we would be heading out almost every day.
And our total cost for the month was 722 RM.
All right.
So water.
Get yourself one of these.
These are six liters.
And they're in a lot of the 7-Elevens and other versions of 7-Eleven in Malaysia.
The good thing with these is for a six liter bottle, you're talking 10 RM.
So we would get one of these each, maybe every second day.
And our total cost for the month was 440 RM.
Fun and beers.
It's actually not that expensive.
Malaysia has a reputation for being pretty expensive for alcohol.
And yeah, we didn't really go out too much on the gas, if you like.
Our total cost was 295 RM for the month.
So around $100 for the month.
So we always drink coffee.
It's just one of those things.
In Malaysia, you can get good coffee in the city.
Where we're staying, there's not really that many sort of cafe options.
So we just went to the supermarket and I think each time spent $10, $11 or 30 RM each time
and just loaded up on the best coffee mix that you could get.
And that worked.
That worked fine.
So our total cost was 61 RM.
So guys, two additional categories.
Travel insurance.
We've got a really good one covering all of our equipment and other things that we need.
So we had to specify a lot of things.
Travel insurer was really, really useful.
Netflix.
We always have Netflix wherever we go.
Watch on our laptops, phones, on the TV.
We've got a little Chromecast we plug in.
We always get a SIM card wherever we go.
In Malaysia, it was 39 RM for a SIM.
So our total for those additional type things there,
the little bills and other things that we pay is 600 RM.
Finally, last category is optional for those that want to stay clean
and look good and all these things.
Haircuts.
Shampoo.
Toothpaste.
All the household things that you might need.
Some of it was already in the Airbnb that we stayed in.
But topping up on all these things, going out, getting a haircut and all that stuff,
our total cost was 100 RM.
Our total cost for the month was 6050 RM.
Now, that was a 31-day period.
All right.
As always, guys, hope you enjoyed it.
We hope that you found this useful in some way if you're coming to Malaysia.
We're going to do this wherever we go.
We're always going to do a cost of living.
What did it cost us to live?
