This Is The Worst NBA Team Of The Decade

What if I told you that there's an NBA team without any all-stars, without a core of group players,
without a ton of draft picks going forward, and without direction?
Well, you'd probably think I was joking, and although I wish I was, I'm not.
In an NBA era where teams are forming big threes, where unicorns are popping out left, right, and center,
and undrafted players are making the NBA Finals,
there's one team that refuses to do anything right, and that perplexes me.
I mean, I literally have no idea what this team is trying to do.
If I had to estimate, a person would have better odds of getting hit by lightning
than this team has of winning a championship.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is the worst NBA team of the decade.
If you're thinking I was talking about the AAU team called the Houston Rockets, I'm not.
As bad as they've been since James Harden left,
you can't deny the fact that they're loading up with talent and gearing up to potentially make some noise.
I mean, they have the number two overall pick from 2021,
the number three overall pick from 2022, and the number four overall pick from 2023.
They could look exciting soon. The same could be said about the Detroit Pistons.
Despite only reaching the playoffs three times since 2009
and getting swept in the first round in all three of those instances,
at the moment, they've got Cade Cunningham, James Wiseman, Jaden Ivey,
all top five picks in recent drafts.
The future looks like it at least has some promise.
The same could be said of the Orlando Magic with Paulo Montero,
the Hornets with Lamelo Ball, the Spurs with Victor Wambanyama,
the Trailblazers with Scoot Henderson,
and the Jazz with all the picks they've got from the Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell trades.
All these teams haven't done well in recent years,
but they at least got something good going for them in the near future,
and their fans at least have something to get excited about.
But I can't say the same about the Washington Wizards.
They're an entirely different story.
I kid you not when I say they're now being led by someone who recently got clocked in the face
and someone who once dressed like this. Okay, that may have been a bit harsh.
But let me reintroduce them again. Jordan Poole,
who was an integral part of the Warriors 2022 Championship run,
is a fast-paced electric guard who could attack the basket at lightning speeds
and who could also hit shots from Steph Curry range.
But more often than not, he turns the ball over and takes bad shots.
Kyle Kuzma, on the other hand, showed potential with the Lakers
when he was first drafted, was an important role player in their 2022 Championship run,
but he'll be 28 soon
and hasn't really shown that he could be anything more than a valuable role player in this league.
And the fact of the matter is, these two players are now the face of the franchise.
Yeah, that's right. JP3 is starting the first year of a 140 million-ish deal
and Kuzma just signed a 100 million four-year deal.
You know, if I were a fan, I'd be facepalming myself.
I'm not saying they're bad players per se,
but the faces of a franchise for perhaps the next four years?
Okay, so it's not like the Wizards really had a future going on with Bradley Biel
or Chris Stapps-Prazingis or anything,
but at least they were proven all-stars when they were healthy.
Anyways, then this offseason, they had a good chance to rebuild for the future,
to set the ship straight, to right their wrongs.
But in the short span of just a few days, they went from that to this.
Talk about a bad offseason.
I mean, forget about Poole or Kuzma for a second.
The Wizards got absolutely robbed on those trades.
Like, what in the world was their GM thinking?
What I'm talking about is, for a player of Bradley Biel's caliber,
you'd think they'd at least get a treasure chest of first-round draft picks or something.
But instead, they got a bunch of second-round picks and first-round pick swaps for Biel.
Why the heck couldn't they just get a bunch of first-round picks instead?
Are they hoping they draft the next Nikola Jokic or something?
Anyway, as for Prazingis, the 7'3 unicorn,
all they got was a few players who will probably be out of the league in a few years and a second-round pick.
Yeah, that's right.
No matter how you look at it,
this deal was a complete ripoff for the Wizards.
And I'm sure that Adam Silver himself, when he saw these trades, said,
Ouch.
I mean, another second-round pick?
Who does that?
It's not a good time to be a Wizards fan.
Not one bit.
And from the way things look,
I'll wager that they'll be at the bottom of not only the East next year, but the league.
And it's not just in 2024 either,
but in 2025 and 2026 as well.
Then, just when you thought things couldn't possibly get any worse for the Wizards,
it does.
And I ain't kidding.
You see, the worst three teams in the league each year have the best odds of drafting top lottery talents,
and the Wizards have chosen arguably the worst year to tank.
Yeah, you see, the Wizards are going to be at the bottom of the league in 2024.
They're likely to draft a top-three pick in the 2024 NBA lottery.
But the thing is, per the experts and NBA scouts,
the class of 2024 is considered to be one of the weakest graduating high school seniors we've seen in years.
Talk about taking L after L after L.
Like, if the Wizards wanted to tank and get a good player to build around for the future,
2023 would have been it, with Victor Wombanyama and Scoot Henderson in the mix.
But no, they had to aim for the 2024 class.
Now, I know this is sports and that anything can happen,
but the future honestly doesn't look bright for the Wizards.
Then, to even stack onto the fact that this is the worst team of the decade,
the Wizards' recent past is also filled with disaster.
I mean, at one time, things did look decently bright with John Wall and Bradley Beal leading their backcourt.
Like in 2017, for example.
Wall was one of the most dynamic and explosive star guards in the league,
while Beal was just turning into an all-star caliber player.
They were a team on the rise, making noise and making headlines.
But then, a 5'9 guard by the name of Isaiah Thomas stopped them in the second round.
Then after that, things went south again for them fast.
A knee injury which required surgery took their star John Wall out for two months in 2018.
Then in 2019, Wall went through another surgery in his left heel, which ended his season.
Then, while he was slowly recovering from all this,
he slipped at home and ruptured his left Achilles tendon,
which required another surgery and was subsequently ruled out for another 12 months.
Talk about bad news after bad news after bad news.
That's about three years where the Wizards had to carry on without their superstar guard
while still paying him his max contract.
Now, I gotta admit, this wasn't exactly the Wizards' fault, and neither was it Wall's fault either.
Wall was playing his best basketball before the Wizards re-signed him to his max contract.
But because of freak injuries that nobody could have predicted, the team was crippled for years.
Since then, their best season was a first-round exit at the hands of Ben Simmons.
Sheesh, guys.
I know that Philly team also had Joel Embiid,
but losing at the hands of Ben Simmons isn't exactly something you'd want on your resume in today's day and age.
But anyway, from there on, it was the Bradley Beals show for several years.
And although there were occasional highlights here and there, no one expected anything from them.
They were at the bottom of the conference.
They were the team that no stars would willingly go to,
and they were the team that the media would refuse to talk about.
And that's where the Wizards find themselves today.
Loaded with a bunch of future second-round draft picks,
led by two role players with a supporting cast that doesn't look too promising either.
Tell me that ain't bad, guys.
I predict that in 2024, they'll be at the bottom of the league,
which means they'll get a high lottery pick next year for sure.
But like I said, even if they do get the number one pick in 2024,
they just missed out on Victor Wombanyama and Scoot Henderson.
And they'll have to settle with what the scouts are calling
the weakest graduating high school seniors we've seen in years.
Injury plagued in the past, the weakest team in the present,
and no hope for the future.
