So for a whole month, it's basically facing the idea that we're not going to have jobs.
Like we're not going to have income.
You fixed it.
You're a fixer.
We fixed it.
I'm a fixer.
I fixed it.
Phone.
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, we didn't think this would happen to us.
Somehow fitting.
It's totally our fault, like completely our fault, but well, we're in Athens at the moment
and we managed to book an Airbnb with really bad internet and it was our doing.
We communicated before we booked with the host and asked if there was some decent internet
there and he said, yes, it is the best internet you will get in that area.
So we figured, well, hey, that, that sounds okay.
He can't get into the property at the time, so we'll just go with it.
And we booked it and then we arrived and sheer panic unfolded.
Probably should have seen me on the day.
We should have got the cameras out because I was freaking out.
I would not have dared.
Yeah.
Complete panic stations.
We, in case you don't know, I'm Ross and I'm Bec and we work online like, so for a whole
the idea that we're not going to have jobs, like we're not going to have income and well,
you guys know how much it does cost to travel the world and well, we love eating food and
other things that people like to do too.
Yeah, that was going to be a disaster.
So today we're going to share with you what we've done about it, but also going forwards,
what you could do to completely avoid this happening.
So yeah, we hope you find it valuable.
So priority one was finding somewhere that Ross could work and that was way more difficult
than we thought it was going to be.
So I would have given up way earlier than Ross did, but he's very determined fortunately.
So we started just looking into coworking spaces and there are plenty around Athens,
but most of them are closed on a Saturday and Sunday, which is when most of Ross's work
is scheduled in.
So none of them would bend the rules, they weren't flexible on that, or they were going
to charge more.
A fortune guys, they're going to have an absolute fortune now to be.
They were going to charge as much, if not more than what Ross would earn in the month.
So that would have been completely pointless.
You're working for free.
So it just meant thinking outside the box a little bit.
So he started bringing real estate agents to see if they had office space available
and he did eventually find one.
And so that's what we went with in the end.
It's a good deal.
It was like maybe for the whole month, 160 euros for a whole month with weekend access
mainly.
So unfortunately it meant that Ross had to get two trains at the crack of dawn to the
side of the city to be able to get there in time for his work.
Yeah.
And I was the only one in the building.
It was a lovely place, but on the weekends, no one's working there.
So yeah, the one thing they did have going for them was, well, electricity and really
fast internet.
Amazing.
So I basically sat in this building by myself doing some teaching.
So just to put the record straight, we do love our landlord, our host for Airbnb.
He was so nice about everything else, but he just couldn't do anything about the internet.
And it was probably our fault in hindsight for booking the place in the first instance,
which is something that we've learned from now.
So being that we stay in places for close to a month, we prefer to use Airbnb.
And when we book places now, what we've learned, we've actually just this week, because this
is front of mind for us, we've just booked the next five months worth of accommodation
over five different cities.
And the one thing that we've learned to do is contact the host before you book and start
asking the questions that are really important to you.
So for us, it's internet because we work online, but if you're a family and you need space
or you need separate rooms and sometimes the pictures aren't clear, ask the question if
you need laundry facilities or some places are on the fifth or sixth story with steps
as access.
So we've had that.
Yeah, we've had lots of little things with different places that we should have asked
the question on.
So without being too over the top, definitely pick a couple of the highest priority things
and email them.
We've actually just got speed tests arranged with each of the hosts over the next five
months.
They've all sent the results to us.
We've looked at them and they are way above what we need.
So we're just so excited to now go on the travels and know that we've got the right
accommodation for us.
And booking for a month means you get a big discount if you book for over 28 days.
So we absolutely love using Airbnb now and this isn't sponsored.
We don't earn anything from Airbnb.
If you haven't used Airbnb before, down below in the description we do have a link that
you can click and that will give you a discount for your first time using it and that will
help support us as well for the next time we book.
But yes, so far so good.
I've actually been able to teach multiple weekends now and I've loaded up my schedule
so I'm actually earning a bit more to pay for the rent that I now have to pay for as
well.
So yeah, definitely a silver lining and yeah, we're very, very happy with the outcome.
Problem solved.
We hope you enjoyed this.
It's just a little helpful thing, an experience of ours that, you know, has sadly gone a little
bit pear shaped, but we did find a cheap solution.
