Countryside
Aotearoa is my home. I've spent my whole life here, in this far corner of the world. I would say that the most quintessential New Zealand thing is the countryside. Yes there are mountains, scenery so epic that Lord of the Rings was filmed yes. We have an incredible coast, rugged down south, and more relaxed up north. The cities are cool too. But at the end of the day, there is always the understated countryside. Sheep. Fences. Farmland...
The other weekend I wanted to run a trail I hadn't explored yet, just 10 minutes out of town. My drive was interrupted by a herd of sheep just casually running down the road... I started filming, and didn't stop filming until I'd reached the end of the run. This is the outcome. I hope you enjoy this little snapshot of New Zealand. Composing the music equivalent of the kind of scenery is quite challenging. This is just what came out. It was very spur of the moment, much like the filming of the clips. I composed it in about 5 minutes, and didn't change anything from that first inception. So this piece is very spontaneous, raw, rugged. Hopefully, in some way, it reflects the true New Zealand countryside that I see.
Have a lovely day :)
