Hey guys, I'm Ross. And I'm Bec. And we've been staying in Prague for just over a month and today
we want to tell you our honest opinion of the place. So I've come up with a list of hard-hitting
questions and I'm going to be throwing them Ross's way. She's throwing it down at me. Get ready.
An overwhelmingly beautiful city with lots of quirky things to do and eat as well.
We searched for value. We went to Prague 10 and well the cost of life there is about half the
price of Prague 1. It was 10 to 15 minutes on the train or tram into the city. But yeah to
save half the cost we were happy with that. Also we were completely immersed with local
Czechs rather than being right in the buzz of things. Most unique food? Pickled cheese. Now
that's a delicacy here. Pickled cheese is actually pretty cool. I don't mind it. You're maybe
not as much of a fan Bec is. And we had a weird one. We had a beer cheese with anchovies and
onions on there too. And that was quite funky. I liked it though. I liked it. Perfect with a pint.
Favorite Czech food? Has to be koleno. I hope I said that right. I've been saying it all month.
But the knee knuckle from the pig is unbelievable. You can get it like dry roasted or you know in
this dark beer braise or glaze that they put in it. Both versions are incredible. We've tried
10 plus knuckles since we've been here and fallen in love with it. Perfect dish to share.
Check out our tribute to pork video if you want to see the most incredible koleno that we've had.
Easy or hard?
All right like we are very respectful travelers. We always try to learn the basic phrases
especially because we're staying in more local areas. We really struggled. The Czech language
is incredibly complex. Even just those basic phrases we kind of failed at you know nailing
those. So yeah it's really hard. If you're a Czech person please drop some comments down below and
tell us if you think it's easy or hard. It seems very tricky for us. So many words without vowels
you know like that's very confusing for an English speaker. Has to be the stag do's,
the hen do's. Like I get it that it is a spot for you know big nights out and like we had a
fair few big nights out but just the singing in the street, the stumbling. It's a bit overrun
in that sense especially at night time. It's a little bit crazy. Something unique?
Other than the the pandas. Pretty random pandas walking around in the streets. If you've been
to Prague you know what we mean. The other unique thing is just the sheer portion size here. I
remember the first night we were here we just couldn't believe the size of the dish that we got.
It was off the charts for us. Second favorite Czech food. Second favorite Czech food. How do you,
did you just add this because you want me to talk about the duck? Yeah. Yeah the duck is my
second favorite. It's definitely Bec's first favorite. A quarter duck with potato dumplings
and this sort of pickled gravy that's going on like sauerkraut through the gravy.
Amazing value. 120 crowns. Really delicious. Is it too late to change this to my first favorite?
All right it's a close second. What do you think? Well we love them. They seem pretty happy
but in the districts around Prague one honestly guys and that's what this is an honest opinion
it feels a little bit of a shame that the locals would really struggle to go into the city center
and enjoy it. It's overrun with tourists. There's more tourists in Prague than there are locals.
So at any one time there's more tourists than locals and yeah you just get this feeling like
there's a slight resentment at people just overrunning their city and we totally don't
blame them. We get it. We get it. If you stay for one month it will do your head in.
Good shot. Good effort. What do you think of these?
Oh they are next level when it comes to desserts but like I was saying before you don't see many
of the locals eating these. They're in Prague one. They're in all the tourist spots. They go for 120
to maybe 150 crowns but yeah all different types of fillings ice creams and chocolates and all
sorts of stuff in there. This amazing cylinder cone that they make out of this special dough.
It's I don't know it's next level packed full of sugar. You should try one but acknowledge that
you're a tourist. The locals are not eating it. Favorite thing to do? Has to be food and
great value beer. Like you know you spend the whole day out searching Prague for all these
amazing experiences and you build up a massive appetite and then for a really good value amount
you can go and feed your face and drink six pints whatever you want. It's so affordable.
My favorite thing to do? Our favorite thing to do? Most underwhelming thing? Has to be that
astronomical clock. It is beautiful and the whole tower there. That whole old town square is
amazing but the routine that it does is is pretty underwhelming. I actually googled it and it was
voted the second most overrated tourist thing in Europe. There will be 5,000 tourists standing
there with their arms in the air with their cameras taking footage of this yeah on the hour
every hour. Very underwhelming. Good value or not? There's 22 districts in Prague and it's great
value in most of the districts like incredible value for travelers. The main reason being in
the other districts you know locals earning local wages that's what the prices are set for
but in Prague 1 you'll pay double and to be honest that's still not too bad. You might pay
60 crowns for a beer in Prague 1. You might pay 30 crowns for a half litre beer in Prague 10.
60 crowns is still only four Australian dollars. Pretty good for global prices so
yes overall Prague is a great value destination still. Favorite drink? The Pilsner Urkel I have
to say is the popular drink for locals. It's kind of like you know you're only a few hours from
Pilsner drink it but I like the craft beers. Bec actually likes all those dark beers. There's lots
of dark beers here on tap as well. I think Kozel do a few of them and they're delicious. Not too
alcoholic either most beers are less than 5% alcohol. Best overwhelming thing? The best
overwhelming thing what sort of question is this? Has to be has to be our first night here we
thought we've got to go out and try this Knuckle. Let's go have the Kaleno and we went to a pub
local authentic pub we got a 1.4 kilo knuckle um for 285 crowns and well we didn't think that
would be enough so we ordered some other stuff and just the amount of food that came out was
so overwhelming we were embarrassed we kind of thought um everyone thinks we're big fat pigs but
it was yummy it was so good. How did you get around? Trams and trains and buses are all the
same price it's a universal 24 crowns gets you a 30 minute ticket or you can pay a little bit more
if you want a longer period but it's super easy they kind of synchronize all the stops so the
trains link in with the trams and you know it's never more than 20 minutes from one side to the
other wherever you want to go it's an amazing place to explore. Is it worth visiting? Absolutely
it is contrary to me saying there's too many tourists here yeah it's an amazing place lots
of history so beautiful my challenge to you is step outside of Prague 1 and get momentary
glimpses of Czech society don't just stay in the zone get out and kind of see it and you'll get a
different experience. I bet you passed. I passed the test? Guys we loved our stay we made so many new
Czech friends so hello to all of you and thank you for making our stay amazing next week we're
going to share some Czech food traditional Czech food with you so stay tuned for that
