Right, let's go straight to James Green then, who's at Tottenham Hotspur's training ground
for the very latest on this breaking news. A deal done for Tottenham. James, what can you tell us?
Yeah, big breaking news this evening. Tottenham Hotspur have signed James Maddison from Leicester
City for a fee we believe to be around £40 million. The England midfielder has signed a
five-year contract, taking him to 2028. A big signing at the club, one that they've been pushing
for over the last couple of days. We know that the player was here this afternoon doing his medical.
We saw Tottenham manager Antpost de Conclu arrive at the training ground earlier this evening. He was
here for around about an hour and then he was seen leaving the training ground with a bit of a thumbs
Yeah, very, very happy to get this one over the line, but the club have announced it now
that James Madison is officially a Tottenham Hotspur player.
So James, about this deal then specifically for James Madison, I mean Tottenham have got it done
swiftly, seemingly £40 million and he had a good season last year really, didn't he, at Leicester
City in a team that got relegated, 30 appearances, 10 goals. How much quality will he bring to
Antpost de Conclu's squad? I think his quality is undeniable. I think there was quite a bit of a
fight early doors in the transfer window for his signature. We know Newcastle United were very
interested in the player. They seem to have set their eyes on AC Milan's Sandro Tonali,
but James Madison has been high on Tottenham's list and Antpost de Conclu's list. He's full of quality,
very creative and if you speak to many Tottenham fans, they keep referring to their last creative
midfielder of that sort of calibre and that was Christian Eriksen and he left the club in 2020.
It's been a few years since they've had that player that could play in that number eight position
and with Antpost de Conclu coming in and looking to play a new formation, he prefers his 4-3-3.
You think James Madison fits that perfectly well, but he's very versatile. He's proved that when he's
played for England under Gareth Southgate. Gareth has used him on the left-hand side a little bit
more. He can play across the front line. We've seen it for Leicester City too, but as you mentioned
10 goals in 30 appearances for a Leicester City side that were relegated. He got nine assists as
well, five years at Leicester, fifth place finishes, experience in Europe, an FA Cup final winner's
medal along the way in 2021. This player can bring a vast amount of experience and quality, plus he's
still 26 years old, a five-year contract. He's got a lot still in his locker, a lot of improvements
I'm sure he can still make and with England and Euro 2024 on the horizon next summer, he will be
desperate to play a part in that tournament. If England can get there of course and an opportunity
to play at Tottenham, certainly come at the right time. I think this is a great deal for both the
player and a very, very good piece of business for Tottenham to get a player of the quality of
James Madison for £40 million. James, a lot happening tonight of course across North London
at Arsenal. Two deals, one done, one getting closer, but it's Tottenham as well, wasting no time
in getting this sorted. Ange Postekogli will be delighted at how quickly he's been able to shape
his squad. Yeah, he'd be very, very pleased. The club go on a tour of Australia in three weeks time
and it feels like that he wants to get the squad kind of complete in the early stages
of this transfer window. Guillermo Vicario joined the club yesterday. The Empoli goalkeeper, Italian
goalkeepers joined. He's already confirmed Pedro Porro on a permanent signing day and Kulusevski
signed for the club on a permanent basis. Both were at the club previously on loan. Now James
Madison's joined. You can start to see maybe this shaping up to be a busy window for Tottenham,
but they'll be so pleased with the business they've done so quickly. But James Madison
has now been officially confirmed as a Tottenham Hotspur player. Brilliant. Thank you for bringing
us that news, James, and for standing by there to bring us that all evening. Right, Leicester have
confirmed this news as well. The club have said on their website that he departs with the best
wishes of everyone at Leicester City. Undoubtedly a blow for them, but with one year left on his
contract, lots of clubs were interested and it's Tottenham who have got their man. They have
confirmed the signing of James Madison. Yeah, they've confirmed the news as well on their website,
Ian, on the Tottenham Hotspur website tonight. They say they're delighted to announce the signing
of James Madison from Leicester. They say the England international has agreed a deal with the
that will run until 2028 and will bring you more reaction to that story here on Sky Sports News.
