Boeing's F/A-18E/and F/A-18F Super Hornets is becoming outdated, and while the Navy has ordered some new BlockIII Super Hornets, the production line for the aircraft is shutting down, it will stop in 2025.
But recently, the Hornet fighter jets have ushered in unexpected surprises. One surprise is that Taiwan may consider buying a different model, the F/A 18I or “Silent Hornet”, Another surprise is that Australia is willing to hand over their Hornets to Ukraine.
When 25 U.S. military companies visited Taiwan in early May, it was reported that they were selling the Hornet fighter to Taiwan. The main reason is that Taiwan’s 60 Mirage-2000 fighters have been unable to receive upgrades since they were purchased in 1997. In recent years, they have shown their willingness to replace them. Now that the United States is selling military equipment to Taiwan, and the Block III Super Hornets are being produced, Boeing wants to continue production.
