🇮🇳 Don't Travel India Like THIS

Funny thing about flying across the world is uh when you get there you feel like you just flew you feel like you just flew across the world so 24 hours straight of travel and uh we have arrived in Delhi Indira Gandhi airport just had a quintessential India experience in the men's as it was completely empty at the urinals young gentleman decided to pull up right next to me and stare at my penis luckily i've been practicing the phrase so oh man so i was going to take the metro there's a lot of options here once you get to the airport a lot of a lot of taxi guys but they backed off as soon as i dropped a few hindi phrases that i know you get a prepaid taxi cheapest way is the metro though so i think the metro the metro is the way to go i think it's like less than a dollar to get to the new delhi railway station which is where i am headed so i don't think they start the metro until 6 00 am luckily it's 6 30 6 30 in the morning few hours of sleep over the last 24 hours i am not allowed to film in the metro i don't think so don't don't don't film in the metro i might get in trouble for this oh look at this guy see if i get shut down for filming in the metro i wonder if they're open you know it's time for some uh early in the morning time looking forward to getting into the city and getting some nice fresh hot samosa came all this way to have a guy stare at me at the urinal and to get some fresh samosa if nothing else where are you going i'm going over here where are you from i'm from the u.s where are you from i'm from jaipur jaipur nice beautiful you want jaipur uh blue city right no oh the bridge yeah that way oh thank you brother have a good day man all right so i was right no filming no filming in the subway i don't know if you're allowed to film don't know if you're allowed to film here but that's that's new delhi for you okay so the subway was 60 rupees that is uh 75 cents good deal definitely cheaper than a taxi if you go with one of the touts out front they'll try to get you for like 10 bucks or more for a taxi 15 20 bucks i think the prepaid one is less than 10 bucks yeah in the chaos it's good to be back it's like being in a violent ocean violent ocean of sounds and smells and your senses being bombarded from every direction i was here once before eight years ago so good to be back finally one guy come up to me and say put my camera away i wasn't even filming i just had was holding it in my hand and i was like i'm just holding it in my hand man i said who are you he said i'm a taxi driver i'm like get the **** out of here you're a taxi driver telling me to put my camera away you don't get to tell anybody anything buddy i actually don't know where i'm going so i bought a sim i bought a sim at the uh i bought a sim at the airport but it's not going to be finished loading until uh like noon so without the maps but that's all right it's already getting hot i gotta find some samosas got it oh there's something over there might be some samosas go check it out nope chai chai and chai chai chai uh he pointed over here at the kfc i don't know if the kfc has uh samosa but let's go see problem of going back and forth looking like a lost puppy dog in a situation like this is uh all right potatoes it's a good sign usually that means samosa i don't know i don't see any samosa maybe this convenience store i think this convenience store no samosa no bread bread pakora right maybe in here no everything's closed you have a samosa or no is it samosa out there or no that way yeah that's right straight let's go straight and everything all hilarious so that's what happens though if you don't stay on your guard but that outdoor barber i'm not sure how sanitary it looked but it looked pretty interesting what do you think here we go samosa heaving walking by the outdoor urinal no big deal as crazy as this sounds i think it's actually cleaner than it was eight years ago seems seems like they've really cleaned it up not sure if that's true or if i'm just desensitized to it but there were people like sweeping the roads and looks cleaner at least the parts i've seen so far hey namaskar so this is the start of paharganj neighborhood and it goes this way and we're going to find a nice chief guest house somewhere in there this is what is this uh i'm looking for samosa man maybe later later samosa samosa inside over there little tamarind sauce or sweet like duck sauce yeah i never had i usually get like green chutney green chutney you got green chutney no okay never had duck sauce on a samosa before oh the sauce is spicy definitely different but that sauce finally successful on the samosa heart so we made another friend he's going to show us the gold star inn and how much is this place it's depending on the room how much it's depending on the room depends on the room of the room yeah which rooms are available oh okay i don't know yeah a lot quieter you can see the room if you like yeah how much it's depending on you can see a room okay you can see the room all right we're gonna see is the air condition right no i think no air condition yeah just has a shower and bathroom hot shower hot shower no cold shower how much go and see the room first well tell me how much first so i know what i'm looking at how much thank you they have to look to see how much it is because it's uh it's very difficult to tell the as you can pay a little more you get what you pay for you get what you pay for right yes thank you for showing me and now i know that's the standard for 1,000 thank you how much you were looking for all right around how much like how much is your budget yeah my budget is cheap as possible so not a hundred not a hundred but yeah a thousand is a good price but i just want to see what other options this place this name hotel stay stay hotel stay okay we're gonna do hotel stay for one night so india is home to the bengal tiger bengal tiger king cobra the elephant and the most dangerous animal of all the tuk-tuk driver king of the good time king of the good time king of the good time king of the urban jungle this is crazy so we've basically been in india for about 24 hours now and um getting ready to leave soon some of you might have heard about hurricane ian and it basically uh slammed directly into our house and the power's been out i haven't been in touch with sam and it looks real bad and so right before i left to come here you know there was a question of should i go but it looked like at the time the hurricane was headed more towards tampa and so i thought it was pretty much gonna miss us and unfortunately that did not happen and so now i gotta get home and uh as soon as possible and uh and make sure everything's everything's okay and everybody's safe um so it's like 6 30 in the morning now i've slept very little in the last geez it's been like 48 hours now going on just a few hours of sleep and uh i think four hours of sleep is the most the biggest chunk i got um so i just booked a flight back and it's uh not until 11 30 tonight so i have like 17 hours until i'm getting back on a plane for 20 something hours to go back so um i guess i'm just gonna get up and pack up and go walk around for 17 hours or a couple hours or something get some food but uh this is not obviously how i intended for this to go but um i thought every everybody was gonna be safe i thought everything was gonna be okay i thought the hurricane was gonna miss us i didn't think it was gonna be a big deal but uh i can't uh there's no point in me being here if all i'm doing is worried about back home and i'm not in contact with anybody so it's uh that's what i gotta do i mean now i can say i've had the um i've had the uh 15 dollar a night paharganj hotel experience i mean it wasn't so bad the fan kept it pretty cool um it has a slight musty smell it's pretty quiet it's not the cleanest but um yeah i don't know oh the one thing i will say is the bathroom so normally in india you have what they call a bum gun which is like a sprayer they don't give you toilet paper but this does not even have a bum gun so i don't know what you're expected to do after you drop a deuce i guess i had to take a shower because there's no bum gun and no toilet paper so that's a new one for me quite a curveball anyway um i'm not really feeling that um motivated to film but i'll try and just capture the last couple hours before i head back a lot of times i think people think all that india is is this chaos but uh there's actually some really nice neighborhoods first of all it's a huge country there's mountains deserts beaches lots of great stuff but even in delhi delhi gets a bad rap because there's some very nice neighborhoods i mean they're upper class and more expensive hotels and food will be more expensive but uh i think sometimes everyone who hasn't been here thinks the whole country is like baharganj which it's not so check out some other neighborhoods today and show you the difference forgot to mention yesterday the uh hotel hunt situation um mistakes were made and i would say first one is personally i prefer to have a place booked ahead of time but i've seen these other travelers you know they just go and they do a hotel hunt and it's so much fun and you know it makes for good content that may be all well and good but once you step off like a 30 hour flight and you're exhausted it is not fun hunting for a hotel so have the first night booked in advance because i was so exhausted i kind of got sucked into being led by some touts and a good rule of thumb is if uh the hotel needs to pay commission to have people stay there it's not a good hotel which was the case with where i stayed but it actually wasn't that bad but it was pretty bad so i should have just i had bookmarked some places that i wanted to check out they cut it they like to cut it razor razor close razor sharp so i should have just gone to one of the places i bookmarked it was more expensive but i think it would have been a little bit nicer but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter all that much i didn't get bed bugs or get bitten by mosquitoes or anything or sweat my ass off so in that sense it was good but today hoping to try some food that i have not tried before some new types of street food for me so let's see if we can do that i actually heard this place is good the giant chihuahua let's check it out hey food giant chihuahua i recommend there's one thing in particular rajma chihuahua good right very good here yeah yeah yeah rajma chihuahua you recommend it good yes please thank you 90 90 yeah and uh what do you have for drinks we have all these oh can i try the shikanji yeah why not it's good what yes sweet salt uh sweet only sweet salt whatever you recommend whatever you like i will go to you for mix mix mix do it okay so they have a special soda here shikanji i've heard of it it's like lemon yeah giant soda shikanji it's like lemon right something like that it's supposed to be good perfect thing to go with oh and also um egg samosa yeah okay so no samosa today okay all right well first second third okay soda get the soda here and then rice and then all right great okay i'm a little worried there's ice in it i didn't know maybe not living on the edge yeah good good it's good very nice refreshing so give this guy the rice right down there so keep going okay first second third i'm i'm totally confused with the system there's a slight eggy taste to it and i think it's kidney beans rice curry papad onion bhaji no how do you say sabzi right i don't know i forget how to say onion forget how to say onion looks good rice and beans staple of many cultures around the world what's that the onions okay we got another guy and that is what yes yes with the paratha which one so first rajma chawal experience like a kidney bean curry i i'd never seen kidney beans in indian food before i didn't know they use kidney beans now i know they do giant soda not really digging it it has like a slight eggy initial eggy taste which is a little weird and i'm a little worried about the uh the ice that was in it unfortunately so this is kanat place it's like a central uh traffic circle a big traffic circle in delhi and because new delhi was a planned out city by the british when the british ruled here uh they have a lot of these traffic circles and it's very organized in the center here when you get to like old delhi and some of the uh older parts of the city it's a little bit more chaotic i'm not i'm not sure paharganj is older it is closer to old delhi uh so it's going around chandy uh almost said chandy chowk which is in old delhi but going around kanat place right now it's kind of more of a little bit more upscale more shopping more expensive stuff and more expensive hotels more expensive restaurants but they are supposed to have some good street food here so i'm going to try to try to hit a few of those off that i have not had before so walking around this back street now for the next stop here for something else i haven't tried before chole bhature but i think it's similar it has chickpeas in it i think it's similar to chana masala i think i don't know if the spicing is similar i think uh i think it's they don't open for another half hour though another way you can tell you're in a fancy neighborhood and i'm not actually even joking about this but you see you've got mcdonald's taco bell starbucks and it may seem like i'm joking when i say that's how you know you're in a fancy neighborhood but those are actually status symbols like the the imported like fast food places are viewed as because they're usually much more expensive than the standard street food like exponentially expensive and so it's often like i remember the first time we were here we made friends and they insisted that they they must take us to kfc they must take us to dunkin donuts and it was a sense of pride they wanted to show off that they could afford kfc and dunkin and while i can understand on one hand the status symbol aspect of it it's an example of what i refer to as the cultural homogenization of the world and eventually if left unchecked all you're gonna have all around the world are starbucks taco bell mcdonald's and they're you know so on the one hand i understand they want to they want to kind of show off you know we can afford mcdonald's it's a status symbol but on the other hand i cringe when i see this it makes my heart break because it means that these things are displacing something native to and hopefully uh we can get it under check so the whole world doesn't turn into one large strip mall so okay it's a little confusing but um i'm in another hotel now in a different neighborhood i'm not staying tonight because i'm leaving tonight but i had already paid for this hotel for two nights as soon as i basically booked that hotel and parked on yesterday still not if i was flying back um i booked this place that we had stayed our first time in india eight years ago hotel cobley and um so i just i'm here to drop my bag use the wi-fi take a shower if i have any energy go check out the neighborhood around here but um i mean this shows you the difference in price so this place is 22 a night um it's much nicer much cleaner um nice little courtyard outside and it uh 22 a night so it's not just about price here it's also about the neighborhood so i would definitely recommend this place um i can't remember the neighborhood um i think a little bit south of here the neighborhood is called lodge pot and agar and uh anyway so nice little courtyard here at hotel cobley beautiful mellow little neighborhood the neighborhood is called jang pora just remembered that so let's go out and see if we can get some food so this place is near a famous uh sufi temple uh nisrat hazmuddin uh down the road and there it's known for i think they have like chanting and stuff like that we went the first time we were here not sure if i am up for it right now but uh it's a little bit mellower neighborhood so this is it pan de tan de jati traditional sweets and vegetarian restaurant all right let's see what we got here what do i serve serving veg veg food only veg fully veg okay good uh chole batore uh can i get egg chole batore and uh samosa egg piece and uh no tandoori roti okay no roti and uh see one uh black tea one black tea okay okay right this you don't like it no just the gulab jamun you don't want me to film the gulab jamun why him film him what it's a camera this guy like akshay kumar you see akshay kumar seemed like maybe they didn't want me filming but in the publicities chole bature samosa tandoori roti black tea and nobody else is here so it should be nice and fresh and hot and delicious veg pure veg food i'm not clear on what pure veg means but uh i guess they don't they don't cook meat here at all i guess that's what that means so look at that yeah please oh no oh this is not roti this is chole bature come with okay okay sorry chana and then okay and then is this the same chana masala same oh okay so chole bature is chana masala and it comes with the bature which is a type of bread and i ordered two roti which i didn't know that it came with bread because i've never had chole bature before so he was asking me again if i wanted the roti which i've already got two breads so i don't need uh i don't need it looks good so chana masala with i guess these are called first time chole bature here we go oh so good so good oh yeah the best chole bature i've ever had bread is so light in comparison to the one we had yesterday it was much easier to get this one and it's chana masala with bread better than yesterday for sure infamous
