Hey guys come with me on a road trip to Kwewu in the eastern region of Ghana. Such a stunning area,
so much greenery, it's right on top of a mountain so the weather is so so much cooler. In this video
we're going to explore the area a little bit, we get to witness a little bit of a Queen Mother's
funeral and you just get a general vibe of what Kwewu looks like. Come with me, let's go on a
trip together. I hope you guys enjoy the video, make sure you give me a thumbs up. I always have
too many bags always and then I've got my suitcase.
Guess who left the house? I'm on my way, fingers crossed we're able to make it there while it's
still morning. Our journey to Kwewu has officially started. I need to put petrol in my car, I feel
like I live at the petrol station, like I'm there all the time. So it's my first time going out this
way. Kwewu is my hometown, that's where my mom is from and like in a car you're from where your
mom is from. My mom is from Abitifi Kwewu so that's where I'm from, so that's where I'm heading.
We used to go there as kids all the time but like I've just never been as an adult so it's my first
time and I'm driving there guys, can you believe it? But anyway we're gonna go to Nkoko. The
mountain is apparently really steep so we're gonna get someone else to drive us from that point on.
So hopefully that's a smooth drive and no dramas on the way, may God take us there safely. Every
time I get to this part of the motorway I notice like there's individuals that are going to work
and they're making signals at private cars to like get a lift to like another part of the motorway
and it must be a thing like I've never picked up anybody because like I'm a girl and it's usually
just me driving so I don't pick up anybody but I always wonder if people actually take them and
maybe they charge them something or they do it for free. It seems like for me personally I wouldn't
do it because I'll be worried about like man this is a stranger but it seems like a thing like
because these people that stand there obviously they go to work on a daily basis so if they're
doing this then that means it's something something they do quite often you know.
I was hoping there'll be no traffic guys like on the GPS it's all green so I thought there'll be no
traffic but there is still a little bit. I'm just hoping we get there soon, still two hours and 24
minutes left. My grandma would have been the best tour guide for Kwiu but you know she's too frail
so at the moment to do such a long journey so yeah we'll find someone to take us around. I'm
excited to be there to be honest I just yeah don't want the journey to be too long. One thing about
traveling outside Accra is the scenery like there's just nothing that compares to it to it
like it's just so beautiful like I don't know you just feel like you're in a completely different
part of Ghana you know because a lot of our concentration is in Accra and then you come
out you're like whoa is this how this place looks like look at all this greenery around me it's so
pretty. This area is called Adwoajiri. This Adwoajiri place is stunning oh my god the views
here are unbelievable and they have some decent houses around here there's so many hidden gems
outside Accra guys it's crazy you've got to leave to find out honestly because I didn't know this
place existed beautiful. What I've noticed guys is like there's a lot of small towns like along
the road and they're like almost right next to each other like once you get to one the next
in like two kilometers you're at the next one and then you're at the next one we've seen like so
many different ones on our way. I'm really taking in every little bit of this trip to Kwewu. After
every couple of kilometers I have to stop and just check out the views because I just can't help it
it's so beautiful like the greenery it's impeccable you would think you're watching a movie like oh
so beautiful guys I hope you guys are enjoying the whole trip with me let's carry on
We've got about 23 minutes till we get to Nkoko. I just saw a sign board saying we're in an area
called Achim Setre and it seems like they have a lot of the pots that we grind chili in ayiwa
that's what we call them or asanka yeah I've seen lots of them along with palm oil they're
selling along the road so we're nearly there we're nearly there so we've made it to Kwewu
municipality there's a lot of small towns within this area so we've made it to Nkoko
this is where we're going to be meeting with the guy who's going to take us up the mountain
can you guys see all the greenery around here now you can see we're really in Kwewu
there is so many plants even just along the road you can see they've got like plantains
and bananas and stuff just here there's a mango tree across from me there's palm trees
literally everywhere people here I don't think they even go to the market you know because
everybody has food in their backyard but anyway let's go and meet the guy and go up that mountain
new station
crown filling station you guys the GPS is playing games with me like it keeps rerouting
okay I'm calming down it's playing games with me it seems like we're on the right path we're
five minutes away from where we need to be picked up so we'll be there shortly I'm excited to see
what Kwewu has to offer hey guys so our journey is continuing from Nkoko onto the mountain we're
heading to Obo which will have the hotel that we're going to stay in the Easter is coming up
soon so everywhere is kind of booked out at the moment and I have Yao Yao is the one that's taking
us up the mountain at the moment so we're on the mountain now we took the ATVA road apparently
that's a little bit easier than the Obo main side this side looks fairly easy to go on too
I think I could have driven here I don't think I would have had an issue because the roads are
quite wide and they're all done as well coming back down the mountain we might take the other
side so we can see what that side looks like as well you guys I am so blown away by my hometown
I mean this is not Abitifi which is where I'm from but it's still part of Kwewu this is Obo and
there are some absolutely stunning homes like oh so beautiful and they're huge a lot of them seem
to be just holiday homes so I'm so impressed you know people when people watch my channel they're
like oh Jasmine you're from Kwewu that's why you're such a hard worker and stuff but I never
really understood it but now that I see all these fancy houses it makes sense it absolutely makes
sense because wow like these houses here are something else I'm so happy to be here guys
my driver doesn't want to be on camera maybe my tour guide will want to be on camera so I'll show
her later on let's go the queen mother of Oboming has passed away unfortunately so her funeral
proceedings are happening while I'm here so I'm like I might as well take you guys through it
so let's go and see what happens as you can see I've taken out my nose ring all my jewelry is off
I have nothing on and I had to cover my hair as well it's all part of showing respect to the
queen so let's go and see what happens over there I'm very scared because I've seen some creepy
things already but I'm looking forward to getting to know about it hopefully we can interview some
people and showcase a little bit of what happens so we're just leaving the funeral now today is
Thursday so they've done the proceedings for Thursday unfortunately we couldn't get much
footage because the person that was going to give us approval wasn't available but basically
from what we saw the the queen that was taking over from the queen that has passed away her family
did a bit of a walk and they were carrying the lady described it as the thing that the family
represents they were carrying it and walking around with it there was lots of gunshots apparently
there's the people with the black stuff on them they're called Obrafo and there's different types
of them like there's people that were doing some magic stuff there was this guy that was cutting
his tongue and stuff but we weren't allowed to film most of it what's going on and but because
it's a big deal you know it's a big deal and that's why they're doing all these traditional
stuff and you see that basically everyone in the village attends as well generally with Ghana
funerals anyone can go it usually doesn't happen straight away when the person passes away unless
you're from a Muslim family of course but generally it takes months for the funeral proceedings to
occur because a lot of the time is arrangements sometimes family drama and stuff but generally
it takes some time so it allows people to prepare and people to attend strangers family friends
literally anyone can attend funerals as I said it is a celebration of life so it's not all sad
there's some happiness to it. Our day is basically coming to a close either way we're in Kweu
we're about to have some dinner the lady who organized everything prior to me coming is here
that's Gifty. Gifty is basically taking me around it's been so lovely
so far so we're about to eat some banquets
we're still discussing where the best fufu is but apparently fufu is what's native to Kweu
good morning guys it's the next day in Kweu we've just woken up we were meant to be out filming
already but this rain will not let us be it's literally been raining all day it rained yesterday
throughout the day and then today as well it's been raining all morning we're gonna go have some
breakfast and then I'll give you a tour of the place that I'm staying at it's really really pretty
as you guys can see a lot of greenery in the background if you look across from me as well
it's like a mountain of trees like it's so much cooler here having a shower is such a nightmare
because it's so cold like the water is literally icy cold like I have to put soap all over before
I can rinse the soap off because I can't put water on me before because it's just freezing
anyway let's go and eat something and then I'll come back and give you guys a tour of my hotel
breakfast was ready where do we go at the bar oh so that's the black gate over there okay
like I just checked the temperature on the phone and it's only saying 26 degrees which is not
supposed to be cold but I'm very cold like I'm not cold I really acclimatized now so I'm freezing
and the rain is not helping these are our breakfast options you get toast you get a bit of veggies
egg and sausages as well and some big beans and then you can have milo or black tea whatever
hotel tour time by the way yeah it's in Obo in Kewu and the space is huge it's really really
big the car park area is massive the only weird thing is it's right opposite a cemetery it's not
so obvious because they've put a wall around it so this is what the compound looks like
very beautiful there's so many trees around here the breeze is so nice first of all you're in Kewu
you're on top of a mountain of course the breeze is nice like there's nothing like hot here they
have sitting areas they have a sitting area here and then there's another sitting area over here as
well let's go inside the name of the hotel is Nyakuwa Bar. Alright guys so let's show you the
rooms they range all the way from 350 cedis to 1200 cedis so it's very reasonably priced
and it's not your typical hotel room it's a lot bigger it's almost like an airbnb you get a little
lounge area so come inside so this is what the lounge area looks like and then once you come
through the lounge area they have there's a fridge here and then there's a little kitchen area as
well for what you pay it's super affordable so this is what the kitchen area looks like this
room is 550 cedis which is super affordable you get a king-size bed you get a little dresser
over here then there's a phone next to the bed and then you get a wardrobe as well and then
there's a bathroom in here the bathroom is very spacious as well as you can see huge shower you
get hot water here and then you get a toilet so the cheaper rooms don't have hot water but for
it's great that's what this room looks like and also one interesting thing i noticed is every
block has a name on it i asked the lady who works here and she says apparently it's the names of
family members and friends of the owner of this place the one we're going to now is Ajoa Deda
and then there's a few different ones the one behind me is Ajoa Fosua so they're all very
local names okay guys so this is the space that goes for 1200 cedis super affordable this is the
lounge area as you can see you get sofa table there's a fridge right here you get a tv and
then i think the bedroom is upstairs so we'll check that out later on and then down here you
have you have a kitchen area so the kitchen areas in the more expensive bedrooms don't have plates
and kettles and stuff but this one does but if you come inside you can see there's a kettle some
plates so you can do something with it you like they do have a restaurant here as well so if you
don't want to make anything you have that option and then down here there's a little like guest
washroom down here so there's a toilet just a toilet and then a sink as well let's head upstairs
imagine if you came in a group like those four of you that's only 250 cedis per person that's
cheap this is bedroom number one once you come inside there's a bed right behind me as you can
see there's a wardrobe a dresser there's a tv right there and then we're going to head into
the bathroom bathroom as per usual there's a big shower very spacious there's a sink right here
this is the second bedroom the second bedroom has an even bigger bed a big bed here as you can see
then there's a tv there's a wardrobe and then there's a dresser right here as well and then
there's a bathroom in here the bathroom here is pretty much it's quite similar to the other one
toilet big shower then there's a sink and then a mirror this is really cheap like it's
super affordable but i guess i mean if you're somebody that wants to explore pewu nyakuwa
bar nyakuwa is definitely a place to consider i'll put their contact details on the screen for
you guys they have very decent rooms the cheapest room is 350 as i said it's not too much different
it's just like a little bit smaller other than that so definitely consider it all right guys so
i am off to go and explore more for you guys i'm gonna end the first video here i hope you guys
