Arch Bridge Garabit Viaduct: Revolution in Bridge Construction
The Garabit Viaduct is a railway bridge located in southern France, spanning the River Truyère. It was designed by Gustave Eiffel, who is best known for creating the Eiffel Tower in Paris. The Garabit Viaduct was completed in 1884 and at the time of its construction, it was the highest bridge in the world.
The viaduct has a total length of 565 meters (1,854 feet) and is 122 meters (400 feet) high. It is an impressive feat of engineering, with a lattice steel structure that was considered to be groundbreaking at the time of its construction. The viaduct was designed to carry the railway line between Béziers and Neussargues and was a vital link in the transportation network of the region.
Today, the Garabit Viaduct remains in use and is a popular spot for tourists. Visitors can take a train across the viaduct or hike to the top of the structure for breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. The viaduct is also an important landmark in the region's transportation history and is considered to be a testament to Gustave Eiffel's engineering genius.
