Aaron Judge does go on the aisle.
You lose Judge on top of losing Stanton,
those are your big thumpers, it's going to be hard to score.
Both of these teams in the early season
trying to find their offensive rhythm.
Domingo Hermann, five starts this season,
two and two, 5.54 ERA.
Grounded to Peraza.
One away.
Rosario, who snapped an 0 for 12 in Boston yesterday
with an RBI single.
And he lines it right back up the middle.
And the Guardians get a runner aboard with one down.
Can they turn two?
There's one.
Back to first, not in time.
Now Josh Naylor with Jose Ramirez at first base.
Swung on, a fly ball to center, not deep.
Kind of full up is there, a little toward left center
to make the catch and end the inning.
Cal Quantrill will be the starter,
and Cal coming off a rough start
in his last start against Colorado.
He only went three and a third.
He's going to need to bounce back.
Pits swung on line to the second baseman, Jimenez.
He's out number one.
Going to bring up Anthony Rizzo.
He is scuffling right now.
Rizzo swings at the first pitch.
Deep left field, back is Quan, makes the catch.
Now Rizzo in a 179 skid over the last ten games.
Smoked on the opposite way, and Quan,
just before he got to the wall, jumped up and snagged it.
So two rockets off the bats of Yankee hitters,
and with three pitches, two outs.
In the air to right field, lazy pop for Will Brennan.
And he's going to put it away
in a good, strong first inning for Quantrill.
Now the Yankee offense, with the injuries,
they have scored no more than three runs
in 13 of their last 17 games.
It's seven and ten during that time.
Gluccia into the bleachers,
hauled in by Trevino, and it's one-nothing Yanks.
Wow, 425 feet.
Trevino is third of the year.
As hard as runs are to come by.
Big run for the Yankees right there.
The last home run the Yankees hit was Thursday in Arlington,
and it was by Jose Trevino.
And he walks on four straight.
I think the way the lineup is constructed, Paul,
you're going to see people not giving Rizzo that many strikes
because why get hurt by Rizzo?
It used to be, let's not get beaten by Judge or Stanton.
So you're right, he's going to have to learn
to take some walks here.
That one is laced into right center field.
It's a base hit for Gleyber Torres.
Moving to second is Rizzo.
He couldn't draw it up any better than this, Mike,
because these are the at-bats now with this lineup
that you want D.J. LeMahieu in.
Runners go.
Loop and a base hit to left center field.
Rizzo scores easily.
Torres will go to third.
It's an RBI single for LeMahieu,
and the Yankees lead two-nothing.
So we go to the fifth inning.
And Josh Bell.
There's ball four, so the first free pass issue
and the tying run comes to the plate now for the Guardians.
Fly ball to Calhoun.
He's there to put it away.
This will be the 60th pitch for Hermann.
Strike three, Zunino down looking.
He does not agree with that call.
He thought that was ball four.
So here's Will Brennan.
Tap back to Hermann.
The throw to first, and that'll do it.
So Hermann is pitching a throw to one hit shutout to five.
It's two-nothing, Yankees.
And Straw wraps that one into left field, and it's caught.
Here's the 0-2.
Ground ball to third.
LeMahieu to field and throw.
This game is kind of moving along.
Both pitchers not afraid to have the hitters make contact early.
Now on a sky-high pop-up by Rosario, caught by Volpe,
and just like that, Guardians go down an order.
So here is Ramirez.
He's 0-2.
High fly ball, right field.
Calhoun is there.
Now that's Cabrera.
He moved to right field in a defensive switch.
Paul, you get the sense they have early dinner reservations?
They're not really working the count.
Grounded to first.
Rizzo flips to Hermann.
Two outs.
So here's Josh Bell.
He's 0-1 with a walk.
The only base runner allowed by Hermann since the first inning.
Grounded to Rizzo.
Backhanded nicely, and he fires to Hermann, and that'll do it.
As the Guardians go down an order, 1-2-3.
Hermann has retired 20 of the last 21 batters.
High fly ball.
Kind of falafel puts it away.
80 pitches for Hermann.
Dominating and economical.
Swing and a miss.
Zunino down on strikes.
So Zunino with three strikeouts tonight.
And Brennan wraps one to right field.
On the run is Cabrera.
He's there to make the play.
It's been a dominant performance any way you look at it.
He is seeking his first career complete game.
He's thrown 82 pitches, 60 strikes through eight innings.
Miles Straugh will start it off.
They did.
Straugh down on strikes.
One away here in the ninth.
Steven Kwan 0-3.
Wide drive and a base hit center field.
So Kwan keeps his hitting streak alive at four games.
And that is going to do it.
And the crowd of over 33,000 groans.
Well, the groans for Boone.
The cheers will be for Hermann.
Exactly.
Domingo Hermann, the New York Yankees,
out to be thrilled with him.
Eight in the third innings, two hits,
no runs, a walk, and six strikeouts.
He turns it over to Clay Holmes.
So that will bring up Rosario as a tying run.
Little topper, Holmes, can't come up with it cleanly.
And the throw to first, not in time.
Ahmed Rosario beats it out.
And now the Guardians have something cooking
with two on and one out.
Kwan's at second.
Rosario is at first.
So good speed on the bases for the Guardians.
And a noted Yankee killer is at the plate.
Ramirez line drive, base hit, left field.
Coming around third, Steven Kwan.
He'll be stopped there.
And the bases are loaded with only one out.
And Josh Naylor, my goodness, if he hits a home run here,
he won't rock the baby.
He'll rock the whole crib and baby.
Ground ball, base hit, right field.
Kwan scores.
Here comes Rosario with the tying run.
Safe.
Ramirez with the winning run.
The go-ahead run stops there.
And Naylor into second base on the ensuing chaos.
And how do you like that, Bulls?
Well, Wandy Peralta comes in to try to stop it right here.
That's ball four.
Bases are reloaded.
Swing and a miss, big strikeout for Wandy Peralta.
Now a pitch away from forcing in the go-ahead run.
Most in the crowd standing.
Ball four.
Guardians take the lead.
How about that?
Going to get a pinch runner now for Josh Bell out at second base.
This will be David Frye making his major league debut
as a pinch runner.
Just called up today.
Got a pinch hitter for Will Brennan.
This will be Oscar Gonzalez,
who will be the ninth man to bat in the inning.
All right, Theo Cabrera.
Well, this one looked like it was going to be clean,
efficient, and a tour de force by Domingo Vermont.
But the bullpen had other ideas,
and Emanuel Clase takes over on the mound.
Can the Yankees rally and avoid
what would be their toughest loss of the year?
Swing and a broken-back tamper to the mound.
Clase running to first.
Now the underhand flip.
And Torres is out number one.
The 0-2, and a slow chopper short.
Ahmed waits back.
Unloads. Two down.
So here's Aaron Hicks,
who took over defensively for Willie Calhoun.
So it comes down to this as the Guardians lead three to two.
Book it.
Guardians tonight in the Big Apple.
Yankees go down in order, and they suffer a very tough loss,
a game that everyone thought they had.
There are some losses that are tougher than others.
