a lot of nights we see the Warriors shoot 53 point shots, I think the shot selection, attention to detail, focus on getting to the paint first, and then kicking out to your teammates for high quality outside shots, what do you think about that?
So a lot of conversations about Bay versus Sacramento, is Sacramento part of the Bay?
No.
Even now, I'll answer that with a 40, no.
Did we clear that up with Vivek Ranadive?
Two wins, two series, how about that?
It's a new series now.
It's a new series now, how about Draymond Green?
They better watch out for the OGs, man, you understand me, don't count us out, man, count us in, man.
Thanks for coming out to the Hotbox today.
Hey, Festus is sweating, Forty is sweating, y'all need a break, man, you served in that game, were you out, Forty?
I had to slide through that thing, yes.
You need a nap right now.
Talking about home court now, this is 35-8?
35-8 this year, Forty, how about this, 13-1 in the postseason all-time inside this building?
That's why I said, the importance of home team advantage for us, everybody, you know, show up and show up like that at their home team, you know what I'm saying, at their house, you know what I'm saying?
Hey, Forty, go get a break, man, this is a wild one, you need a nap, man, after game four.
Forty-one, everybody, let's go to Steve, presented by BN.
Warriors win 126-125, I need to catch my breath, these fans need to catch their breath.
That was a heck of a basketball game here in a wild, wild one, we were waiting for the shootout here and we got the shootout here in game number four.
No question, both teams made 14 threes, both teams were very efficient from the field, but timely stops.
You know, we talked about Bonte and Fez, we were watching the game, we saw a timely stop, we saw Draymond there blocking Sabonis, basically a layup, blocked the shot.
Sabonis came down on a two-on-one and Draymond stole the ball from him, that was a layup.
Malik Monk came in transition, threw the ball off Draymond's head, that would have been a layup.
So we're not talking about possessions that were going to lead to shots, we're talking about dead layups that the Warriors came up with those stops.
Tremendous game, really impressed with both teams' efficiency offensively, but the Warriors, that championship DNA you always talk about, making the clutch plays when they need it.
And how appropriate, last game without Draymond Green, Steph Curry steps up and saves the day, Draymond thanks him.
Tonight, a few miscues by Steph, and Draymond comes up with the big stop to pay his buddy back.
I just love seeing that Draymond accepted his role coming off the bench.
Last year, Steph Curry comes back the first game in the playoffs and accepts the role to come off the bench, this is what this team is about.
There's the old adage that says, it's amazing what can be accomplished when no one cares who gets the glory, and that's what this Warriors team is about.
And Wiggins comes back this game and does the same, so this playoffs does the same.
What I love is both teams are understanding what their strengths are.
The Sacramento Kings, last game, shoot over 50% going to the paint.
And the Golden State Warriors, this series, are shooting over 60% in the paint.
And so with that, both teams are going away from their 50 attempts on the three-point line.
In this game, both 30, mid-30s, and they're attacking the paint.
Free throws, the Warriors win that free throw battle this game.
It's been a big problem for them all season.
It's good to see them getting that together, playing without foul, at least playing and attacking and being the aggressors in that front.
And we had Sean Livingston on pregame, and he said, Steve Kerr is a coach that will throw in different lineups just to throw a curveball.
So now tonight, they start one big.
They start Kavon.
He has a great game.
Draymond comes off the bench, plays his 31 minutes.
He has 12, 10, and 7.
Has an incredible game.
But maybe most importantly, to start the second half, he starts Draymond on De'Aaron Fox just to give him a different look.
And it threw De'Aaron Fox off just enough.
Look, he had 38 points.
But the third quarter was the deciding factor in this game today, and he had 4 points in the third quarter.
So the defensive strategy worked.
And the Warriors outscored the Kings 37-23 in that third quarter, but they got life out of Keegan Murray.
He had 10 points through the first three games of this series.
He scored 23 and hit 5 threes.
I've got to give a shout-out to Kavon Looney and Draymond Green, setting great screens for him to get open.
But Steph doesn't really need screens sometimes.
Sometimes it's just a bucket.
You just go to Steph Curry and he'll get a bucket.
Well, that key three-point shot that Clay made was a beautiful design play where Steph came off first and curled.
Clay right behind him.
Kavon cleaned him up and buried that three-point shot.
So the threat of Steph coming off a screen and continue to cut brings the defense with him, opens up other players.
And look, credit to Davion Mitchell.
They call him off-night for a reason.
He's been playing some physical basketball on Steph Curry.
But like the great ones do, they tend to figure it out over the course of a series.
Warriors evened it up at two games apiece.
Do not go anywhere.
We are back in 60 seconds.
All right, we previewed this in our pregame show earlier today, the go-to trifecta this series.
And you see in game number one, the Kings won all these categories for the most part, except for threes here.
The Warriors have won threes in basically every game this series except for tonight where the threes were even at 14 apiece.
The SAC was plus 7 with second-chance points, plus 3 when it came off points off turnovers.
However, the difference in this one, the Warriors were at plus 7 from the free-throw line.
And the Warriors were 10 and 1 in games this season when completing the go-to trifecta.
So, look, you lose some of the categories, but they were able to even up the Kings when it came to points in the paint, Fezzy.
I thought they did a good job on their boards.
It was even at 44 apiece.
Looney, of course, with 12 rebounds.
Draymond helping out with 10.
But they were able to get to the free-throw line today, and that turned out to be the difference.
I think it's a tale of two halves.
The first half, I think the Sacramento Kings were kicking their tail on the board, especially at the end of the first quarter.
That's how they stayed in the game.
I think it was 31-25 towards the end of the quarter.
And the Sacramento Kings go out, they win that quarter, I think it's 32-31.
And so that was the tale of the first half.
The second half, the Warriors controlled the boards.
They did a better job rebounding.
Draymond Green starting the second half was really key right there.
And I think they did a great job taking care of the ball.
Of course, they lost the battle of the second-chance points or the points off turnovers.
But the Warriors only turned the ball over 11 times.
I think that for them is really, really key, keeping it on the 12th.
Yeah, and keeping those categories close or even is really important.
Not getting blown out in any of those categories.
And the way you offset it is the free throws are plus 7.
They shot almost 92% from the free throw line.
But the efficiency as a team, 50-40-90.
So that's good shot selection, it's good ball movement, good balance.
So if the Warriors keep those hustle points close and play an efficient offensive game like that, they're not going to get beat.
We'll be right back.
