Rep. Ed Orcutt's floor speeches in opposition to SB 5082 (abolishing advisory votes) | April 7, 2023

The Washington State House of Representatives debated Senate Bill 5082 on the night of April 7, 2023. The legislation would abolish advisory votes on Washington state ballots. Advisory votes, which were established by voter-approved Initiative 960 in 2007, allow voters to share their opinions (repealed/maintained) on legislation passed by the Legislature involving tax increases. Senate Bill 5082 passed on a 54-43 vote with Rep. Ed Orcutt voting “no.”
