Old Sarum is an ancient hill fort and former settlement located in Wiltshire, England. The site is believed to have been inhabited since at least the Neolithic period, and has a long and complex history.

The first major settlement at Old Sarum was established by the Iron Age Celts, who built a hill fort on the site around 400 BC. The Romans later occupied the site and built a town there, which they called Sorviodunum. After the departure of the Romans, the site continued to be inhabited by the Saxons, who established a royal palace and a cathedral there.

In the 11th century, the Normans built a castle on the site and established a new town around it. This town, also called Sarum, became an important center of ecclesiastical and political power in medieval England. The town was home to a cathedral, a bishop's palace, and a number of other important buildings.

Despite its importance, the town of Sarum began to decline in the 13th century, and was eventually abandoned in the 15th century in favor of the nearby city of Salisbury. Today, Old Sarum is a popular tourist destination, and visitors can explore the remains of the castle, the cathedral, and other buildings on the site. The site also offers panoramic views of the surrounding countryside.
