Learn how to travel continuously → https://www.travelcontinuously.com/ We got a last minute flight from Lombok Indonesia to London. This is what it's like to fly across the world right now in the current situation. Stay safe wherever you are and if you're traveling right now - it might be the time to look at getting a flight back to your home country.
Background - we're no longer allowed to stay in Indonesia after our current visa runs out, since UK citizens aren't allowed to come into Indonesia right now. Instead of waiting around for it to get more difficult to get home, we decided it was time to fly back to the UK.
Our flights were covered by our travel insurance Safety Wing under political evactuation rules. It may well be worth calling your travel insurance company to see if you're covered too.

Travel has changed my life and I have no plans on stopping any time soon. That's why I am now running this video blog showing you how I travel the world continuously.
if you made it this far then let me know in the comments below!
Okay unfortunately it's time for us to leave Lombok. We made the choice last night actually
and now flying back to UK. So I'm going to show you in this video what it's like to fly across
the world right now when we have to because well you know the situation. So we're flying back to
So we're in Lombok right now and we're on the way to the airport.
Right now our visa runs out on the 30th which is 10 days time. As it stands if we flew out then
and did a visa run like you can normally do we wouldn't be allowed back into the country because
we're both from the UK and Indonesia has just closed its borders for people from the UK and
that's obviously the same everywhere right now and is changing every day so that it may even be
different by the time you watch this video but right now we can still get back into the UK.
Flights are still running so it seemed like the most sensible thing to do. Unfortunately it does
mean that we have to get across the world and fly Lombok, Jakarta, Dubai, London today so we
couldn't actually find a mask in the last couple of days everywhere in where we were staying anyway
it was all didn't have them or sold out. I do have this at the moment to travel with.
All right ready to go? Yeah. This is the last step. Okay well here we go. It's a 36 hour journey
and this is the beginning. It's the last step. How are you doing? Yeah good man, good. How are you?
Yeah I'm all right.
All right we just got through to departures and we have these for distancing
but it's empty anyway. To be honest this airport is always empty. We'll see in Dubai and Jakarta.
Guys the funny thing is all of these are empty. They're meant to be for antiseptic but everyone's
now just touching the same point over and over putting one of their germs right there.
I just boarded first flight ready to go. The battle flying right now is that you have
this flight is fine because it's only two hours but the next thing is changing so quick now like
it's just a bit bizarre. You need two words I can describe this whole situation with
bizarre and surreal.
Yeah we were literally planning to be in Indonesia for the next couple months so we have
a lot of stuff that we all of a sudden had to book the only available flight back which doesn't have
enough luggage allowance for us to get all this stuff on so we're going to try and see if we're
able to get all on the Emirates flight and if not then see what the options are because I just
checked by the way an Emirates luggage allowance is like 25 kilograms included but if you want to
pay for more than that it goes up by like 100 pound per five kilograms so for an extra five
kilograms was an extra 83 pounds for an extra 15 kilograms was an extra 400 pounds which is mental
so we're going to see what the option is and I just realized I did all of that without this
mask but um it's really yeah I'm going to remember to keep this on now. Just connecting to our next
flight now in Jakarta so far so good so right now I'm about 10 kilograms over I need to lose
by a bit more than that actually I'm about 15 over otherwise it's going to cost me like 400 quid.
flip-flops they can go running shoes you can go you just root around the essentials
so I think this that I've hidden everywhere is the thing that's creating the weight issue
I mean these are strange times that could be currency
it is mate yeah very valuable toilet paper pasta and noodles that's the new currency
and I think I've finished rearranging but I also managed to
cut myself on a razor from my bag from a shaving razor
so now I've got that to fix and I'm using my currency to fix it right all sorted checked in
no problems with the weight now and uh I've got a bag of pasta we're on the way back to London
I guess it's usually gold
well I can only talk for this airport and Lombok but I'd say so far they feel very normal
very as they would be there's nothing that exceptional other than the hand sanitization
stations everywhere um other and they're obviously a lot emptier besides that it's not nearly
as extreme as you might expect beforehand with people checking temperatures everywhere
and quarantine and all of that um it's actually very normal okay boarding now
I have no idea where John's gone I'm bored and hopefully see him on the plane
here he is
let's get out dodge
already yeah let's do it we made it
stop Dubai
see you in Dubai see you in Dubai
we are in Dubai airport now it's actually been really smooth it feels really normal right now
um we're just about to jump on the next flight and the last flight back to London
that's it it was really really easy getting back across
that being said I still need to see how it is coming back into the country
but so far so good how you doing John saying how am I doing yeah all right yeah
a bit tired always positive always positive yeah of course good man
yeah yeah it's been all right it's been fine yeah we're boarding already shall we
easy breezy let's do it lemon squeezy
just about 36 hours later and we are now back in London um once I get my bags and get through
immigration I'm then getting picked up by my dad I'm gonna do 14 days of self-isolation
so I'm enjoying the walk while I can
I'll give you a message later anyway yeah cool
made it this is me for the next two weeks that's my bed no place for exercise and ensuite
yeah okay okay the past a bit was a little bit over the top
it was just the supermarkets were full in Lombok and empty here because people have been panic
buying so I bought some back but we actually ended up with too much food back here so my dad
has just taken some down to the local food bank which is something you can do if you ended up
panic buying and getting too much food then you can take it to the food bank and give it back to
people that might not have got a chance to buy it so I ended up bringing pasta back from Indonesia
that's now gone to a local food bank anyway um I just kind of want to finish this with saying like
this is my setup now I'm gonna be back in the UK for a while I'm not sure exactly how long
and I'm going to be self-quarantining here in this spot for the next two weeks but I'm not
going to stop making videos I'm going to continue putting videos out and I'm going to continue
creating because like I said in the last video that's what I enjoy doing and that's what I want
to put out into the world and try and you know try and continue doing what I enjoy which is what
I would recommend to anyone I'm going to finish it here and you know these are strange times
but just got to keep going so see you in the next one
