Andy Bales' End of Month Update - March 2023
I want to give you an End-of-March update. The past month has been especially challenging for us as we've experienced more rain and cold weather than ever before in Los Angeles.
Unfortunately, the brutal weather conditions are putting the lives of many individuals devastated by homelessness at risk. It's a scary fact, but Los Angeles has more deaths by hypothermia than New York City or San Francisco combined. This is due to the harsh weather conditions we've been facing, with temperatures dropping below 40 degrees.
At Union Rescue Mission, we've been doing everything we can to help those in need. We've had numerous calls from individuals seeking shelter from the cold and rain, and we've never turned anyone away. It's all thanks to the generosity of people like you that we can provide a warm and safe place for these individuals to stay.
As we continue to face these harsh weather conditions, we need your support now more than ever. Your donations can help us provide food, shelter, and medical care to those who need it most. With your help, we can save lives and transform them for the better.
I also want to share with you a story of one of our graduates who spoke at our March 4th graduation ceremony. He had been struggling with mental health issues and believed that gang members were chasing him. Unfortunately, his fears became a reality when he was stabbed by a gang member. His aunt was able to get him into Union Rescue Mission, and he has since transformed his life with our help. It's stories like these that make all the hard work and dedication worthwhile.
As Easter approaches, we're thrilled to tell you we will continue our regular Easter Sunrise Service on the rooftop at on 6:19AM. The following day we will have our 4th Annual Angels of Hope TV Special. This year's show will be hosted by none other than the talented duo of Joel McHale and Natalie Morales.
